Nine races have been set down for Doomben on Saturday. The weather is fine, the track is soft (7) and the rail is out 3.5 metres for the entire circuit.

Race 1. (11:23) Tab Venue Mode Hcp 1600m
Playing a straight bat with 1 Hinged (Bet Now: $1.90). She’s a ripping filly for Mick Nolan that is just a winner and loves to dig in when needed. She dug in well and truly two weeks ago over 1350m here. Was there to be beaten but once Jim Byrne switched to the right hand with the whip, she found. Off that, the mile no issue and gets in so well after the claim.
2 Archdeacon (Bet Now: $8.50) looks the key threat. Rob Heathcoate trained juvenile that is over two weeks between runs since leading throughout to win over 1400m at Eagle Farm. He found plenty under pressure and kicked on strongly to get the win. If he leads and gets control, he’ll take catching.
5 Hats (Bet Now: $26.00) is racing like he will eat up the mile. John Wallace trains this guy, who is on the seven day back up. Ran over 1400m last Saturday at the Gold Coast and worked home well from off the speed behind Hodgson and was good late. Smaller field suits and he’ll be strong late.
Race 2. (11:58) Gallopers Sports Club Hcp 2000m
2 Seentoomany (Bet Now: $3.80) should be suited up to 2000m for Michael Costa. Surprised many with her win at Randwick two back. Then went to the mile in what was pretty much a barrier trial won by Indispensable. Ran well, but no chance of winning given the race shape. Like her up to 2000m and she’s hard to beat.
3 Tavion Prince (Bet Now: $4.60) has done an excellent job since joining Tony Gollan and I think is hard to beat in a race like this. Tough on speed win from this guy when winning here a fortnight back. He was there to be run down, but found plenty when challenged and held his rivals near the peg. Only has to hold his form to go close.
The rise in trip looks ideal for the Rob Heathcoate trained 7 Warp Speed (Bet Now: $4.00). Last couple of runs have come over the mile, winning two back at Doomben before a close up second to Great Powers at the Sunny Coast just under two weeks back. Like him up in trip and has got upside to come.
Race 3. (12:33) Brc Membership Hcp 1600m
I’ve got plenty of time for 3 Tamilaide (Bet Now: $2.60). Les Kelly trained three year old that has looked a good horse since day one and that was confirmed when he spanked his rivals in the Grafton Guineas under a lovely ride from Ben Thompson. He should have won in town by now but has had little luck/poor rides. Think that’ll change here.
2 Dzsenifer (Bet Now: $3.80) has got more upside than most and has class. Gary Duncan trained filly that was hard in the market when racing on her home track in the Winx Guineas. She ran a very honest race but was clearly no match for Our Playboy, who won like Winx in bolting up and making a mess of his rivals. Hard to beat I’d suggest with upside to come.
5 Without Thinking (Bet Now: $8.00) has the talent under the hood to give this a shake. Was down to run in the Winx Guineas but was scratched at the barriers. His last run was the Gunsynd when thrown in the deep end and I thought he didn’t disgrace himself at all behind Ayrton. That is A1 form for this.
Race 4. (13:08) Mt Franklin Hcp 1050m
2 Dusty Tycoon (Bet Now: $6.50) should prove hard to beat here for the Rob Heathcoate camp. Market said she would need the run when resuming at the Sunny Coast, being a notable drifter late in betting, and ran accordingly, running third to Eloquently. Much better second up record and back to a track she likes, she’ll take beating.
Great to see 6 Miami Fleiss (Bet Now: $2.05) at the races. Promising filly for Tony Gollan that resumes, having not raced since the 3YO Jewel at the Gold Coast where she failed to handle the bottomless track. Prior to that, she was winning and smashing the clock of a potential Stakes class horse, so really keen to see how she goes first up.
1 Mishani Miss (Bet Now: $17.00) has strong form around her and she can bounce back in a race like this. Resumed at the Sunny Coast where she attempted to lead throughout, and she gave a solid kick from the front. Condition just gave out late when fourth to Eloquently. Improves with the run under the belt and has a touch of class.
Race 5. (13:43) Racecourse Village (bm72) 2000m
13 The Catch (Bet Now: $3.90) is heading in the right direction for Michael Costa and he can win again. The stable targeted the recent Grafton Carnival and it was a fruitful campaign for the camp, with this guy being one of their winners, bolting up over 1700m. Off that, he should love the rise to 2000m and has scope unlike most engaged.
16 Wonderful Day (Bet Now: $7.50) has only won the one race, which came over 2400m, so the rise to 2000m is a positive for him. Ran last Wednesday over the mile here where he was just off the speed and battled on strongly when second to Alatar. Got upside and the rise in trip is a tick.
9 Blacklog (Bet Now: $13.00) is on the seven day back up and rises back up in trip. He was 1600m back to 1400m when racing last Saturday at the Gold Coast and I liked the way he finished his race off behind The Irons, a horse that wants more ground, and he gets that here. Has run well on the back up as well so he’s a knockout chance.
Race 6. (14:18) Xxxx (bm72) 1200m
15 Luskin Hero (Bet Now: $6.00) looks a progressive type for the Lawrie Mayfield-Smith camp. Last couple of runs have come at this track, bolting up two back over 1050m. Then went to 1200m and closed off strongly late when third to Nordicus. Better for the run under the belt, he’s hard to beat.
17 So Clever (Bet Now: $2.05) looks to have a decent engine under the hood for John Moore. 2/2 to start his career, bolting up on debut at the Gold Coast before racing at Eagle Farm where he was dominant again. Gets right down in the weights after the claim, has the right racing pattern and you don’t know how good they are til they’re beaten.
11 Good Chat (Bet Now: $11.00) can bounce back on a firmer deck. David Vandyke trained three year old that resumed on a testing wet track here two weeks ago and didn’t fire in a plain effort behind Nordicus. He is clearly a much better horse on top of the ground and he’ll get a firmer surface this time around. Deserves another chance.
Race 7. (14:57) Sky Racing (bm85) 1600m
It wasn’t a total shock seeing 11 Great Powers (Bet Now: $10.00) bolt up at the Sunny Coast two weeks ago. She was trucking on speed under Tarrant and once he pushed the button, she was always going to win and she won well. Now that she has found winning form, she can go on with it.
4 Indispensable (Bet Now: $1.75) has done little wrong since joining Gary Duncan from Paul Preusker. Consistency was rewarded two weeks ago here at this track/distance. Led throughout and bolted up under Ben Thompson. Been up a while, but continues to hold his form superbly.
12 I Could Do Better (Bet Now: $11.00) has got more upside than most and has the Chris Waller polish. Resumed off a freshen up when racing over the mile at the Sunny Coast. Flat footed when asked to go and was never a winning threat but picked up and was good late behind Great Powers. Hard to beat I’d suggest now he’s got the run under the belt.
Race 8. (15:37) Tab Hcp (c6) 1350m
4 Hard Labour (Bet Now: $3.00) is a quality mare for the Edmonds camp that was beautifully placed last time out in the Mother’s Gift on Grafton Cup Day. Peach steer from Mallyon helped as well, landing her in the slipstream of the leader before peeling off its back and away she went, safely holding a margin. Proven city performer, she’s hard to beat.
5 Really Discreet (Bet Now: $2.90) is a Tony Gollan trained mare who is a key chance. Close up in the Eye Liner behind stablemate Snitch. Then went to the Newmarket at Rockhampton and seemed to have her opportunity behind Last Chance. Back to her own sex, she can bounce back.
Very interesting that Lauren Abbott runs 13 Buckle Up Baby (Bet Now: $41.00) here and not at Gatton on Tuesday where the mare looked an absolute good thing. She hasn’t been winning, but she’s flying this girl. She’s got an awful racing pattern, but likes getting her toe in, she’ll be strong late and I think $41+ for her is silly.
Race 9. (16:13) Mekka Wednesday Races 11/8-c6 1350m
2 Stuttering (Bet Now: $7.50) should be around the mark. Resumed over 1200m here a fortnight back. Attempted to lead throughout and credit to him, he gave a pretty good kick from the front. Condition just ran out late when fourth to Snowzone. Fitter and up in trip, with a more conservative steer, he’ll be dangerous.
1 Roman Aureus (Bet Now: $4.40) looks ready to win. Brian Wakefield trained gelding that ran over this track/distance two weeks ago. Thought it was no betting in the run the way he was going, but he had to chase a tearaway leader and I reckon that burn just told late. He’s hard fit now and appeals as a key threat.
6 Ziemba (Bet Now: $4.40) is racing well without winning for Rob Heathcoate. He ran over this track/distance a fortnight back and was good late without threatening when third to impressive winner At Witz End, who is flying at the moment, so think that can hold up in a race like this.
