Racing returns to Caulfield this Saturday with nine races set down. The weather is fine, the track is soft (6) and the rail is in the true position for the entire circuit.

Race 1. (11:50) The Mccafe Hcp 1000m
10 Outback Miss (Bet Now: $SP.00) looks a nice filly. Price/Kent trains this daughter of Rubick that debuted over 1000m at Bendigo where she was four wide no cover on speed but was trucking in the run before Moloney pushed the button and she went through her gears like a good horse to win quite well. Form out of that race has been good and she strikes a very winnable race here IMO.
4 Mantua (Bet Now: $SP.00) should prove hard to beat here for Maher/Eustace. This colt had good specking at odds when debuting at Sandown two weeks ago and the longer priced move was correct as he worked home with purpose from off the speed when second to Links. Should be better for the run under the belt, strikes a winnable race here and will be strong at the end. Happy to include him.
6 Spring Eagle (Bet Now: $SP.00) is 1/1 to start his career and that is all you can do really. He was big odds when debuting at Sale at the midweeks but he let down nicely from the back, giving them a start and a beating in a strong debut win. There is a bit of depth to this line up but with the run under the belt, that should hold him in good stead.
Race 2. (12:25) Take It To The Neds Level Hcp 1000m
1 Katsu (Bet Now: $SP.00), if he runs up to his best, wins this. This three year old is four weeks between runs since starting a red hot favourite in the Bel Esprit where he looked the winner when Childs presented him in the straight but he got the staggers the last 100m and had to settle for a third to Pintoff. Back to his own age, fresh legs, confident he bounces back into the winners list.
4 Bubble Palace (Bet Now: $SP.00) looks to have come back in pretty good order for Daniel Bowman. Returned with a bang when a dominant winner over 1100m at Horsham before going to 1000m at Sandown when near the speed throughout and tried her guts out but couldn’t quite get there when second to Flying On A Limb. She seemingly likes her races spaced and is a short course type so 1000m suits.
7 Bahama Bay (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a son of Holler for Tom Dabernig that resumes. He did little when in his first prep during the Summer, which ended with a strong effort down the straight at Flemington, running third to Gold Revolver. Has looked strong in a couple of jumpouts to get ready for the return…doubt he wins, but a must for multiples.
Race 3. (13:00) Marshall White Hcp 1200m
Not really a race I want to get involved in but for the sake of a tip, on top is 2 Va Via (Bet Now: $SP.00) for James Cummings. She ran over this trip at Rosehill three weeks ago where she got back in the run and made up solid headway without threatening when fifth to Winning Verse, beaten 2.4L. Her winning strike rate is terrible but this is one of the easier races she has contested in some time. Hard to beat.
7 Gemstar (Bet Now: $SP.00) has found winning form for Danny O’Brien and she can certainly go on with it. Thought she did more than enough fresh at Kilmore before going to Werribee where she looked a moral on paper and despite seemingly not handling the heavy track, she made a mess of them and was impressive in winning. Firmer footing and up in trip, sits off the speed, she is in the mix.
1 Field Of Praise (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a Deep Field filly for Team Hayes that resumes. This girl is first up, having not raced since Feb 4 at Sandown when producing an end of prep run, finishing down the track behind Benedetta. Been given a good break and has jumped out well leading in, plus her record says 1200m is her go in life. Watch the market.
Race 4. (13:35) Quayclean (Bm78) 1600m
16 Sir Atlas… (Bet Now: $SP.00) beware the unbeaten horse. Lindsey Smith trained gelding that is 3/3 to start his career, winning two races this time in. He was a dominant winner when returning at Geelong before going to Warrnambool where he took forever to wind up but kept finding the line to get there narrowly. He’ll love the rise to the mile and third up from a spell, he should be hard fit, ready to go.
5 Bold Bourbon (Bet Now: $SP.00) is looking to make it four wins on the bounce. Lindsey Smith has this guy absolutely flying at the moment, the latest win coming over 2000m in the Casterton Cup where he was given a peach by Yendall and duly saluted. Back in trip should be no issue, he gets B Shinn and will be strong at the end.
For wider exotics, I can certainly entertain 12 Beaufort Park (Bet Now: $SP.00). He ran last Saturday at Flemington where he got back to near last in the run and was never a winning factor but I really liked the way he poked his way through and found the line behind Not An Option. Fitter, up to the mile, back miles in depth, I think he’s a must include.
Race 5. (14:10) Lamaro's Hotel Hcp 1400m
9 Magnaspin (Bet Now: $SP.00) looks to have come back in pretty good order for Team Corstens and is a key chance. He was big odds when racing three weeks ago at Flemington over this trip but you had to like the way he found the line late in the piece when a closing fourth to Brung King. Would love a rise in trip for him, which likely comes next start, but off the resumption, he’s in the mix.
6 Another Ponzi (Bet Now: $SP.00) has done little wrong this time in for Team Jolly. His opening two runs for the prep were at Balaklava, winning impressively each time over 1200m and 1300m respectively before racing a fortnight back on the Parks track when taking on the older horses and did a good job on speed, just getting nabbed late by Turfitt. He’ll likely be gasping late, but might just have enough in hand.
10 Crimmo (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a knockout chance. Michael Moroney trains this gelding, that ran over 1500m at Geelong a few weeks ago where he got back to near last in the run and spotted those in front a tidy start but really liked the way he found the line late when second to Sir Juggernaut. Back to 1400m I find interesting and drawn wide, so likely snags back to last but will be launching at them late.
Race 6. (14:45) City Index (Bm84) 1400m
9 St Lawrence (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a smart animal for Maher/Eustace that resumes. This guy did a really good job when last in work, winning his opening two runs for the prep before a solid third at Sandown behind Glory Daze. Been given a good break and with two jumpouts under the belt, fresh at 1400m, I think he’s ready to go. Hopefully the market agrees.
10 Turbeau (Bet Now: $SP.00) is third up from a break and should just about be at peak fitness. He showed good ticker to win fresh at Bendigo before going to Rosehill a few weeks ago and was good late without threatening behind an in form Devil’s Throat. Back to Victoria and landing near the speed, he’s in with a serious shout.
14 Sonora (Bet Now: $SP.00) will jump on the bunny and prove hard to run down I’d suggest. Three weeks between runs since racing over 1400m at Flemington when on speed for the trip and kept fighting under pressure but couldn’t quite finish it off when fourth to Party For One. Takes on the boys but is right down in the weights, lands on speed…she’ll give a sight.
Race 7. (15:25) Michael Walker Farewell (Bm84) 1100m
6 Senegalia (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a Maher/Eustace trained mare that is three weeks between runs since winning down the straight at Flemington where she got into a beaut spot from the inside gate and what I liked is that the race was there to be won, and she dug in strongly late when needed to get the job done. Only has to run up to that effort to be around the mark here.
3 Winning Verse (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a proven performer at Caulfield and comes here off a win. That win came three weeks ago at Rosehill where she sat on speed and was there to be beaten but she found under pressure to fend them off and get the win. Blake Shinn on, she’ll press forward and take beating.
11 All About Eve (Bet Now: $SP.00) is an Andrew Noblet trained mare that resumes. This girl hasn’t raced since the early part of the Adelaide Carnival on April 1 when down the track behind Little Miss Kubi at Morphettville. Good fresh horse and has looked to jump out well, so I’d watch the market and see what it does.
Race 8. (16:00) City Index Hcp 2000m
4 Normandy Bridge (Bet Now: $SP.00) should prove hard to beat for Maher/Eustace. He looked like a donkey early on in his Australian career but in recent times, he has really turned the corner. Impressive winner two back at Sandown before racing there again two weeks ago and kept finding the line when second to Deepstrike. Think the rise to 2000m will be fine and now he’s holding his form, happy to be in his corner.
5 Deepstrike (Bet Now: $SP.00) probably won’t get conditions he got when winning at Sandown a fortnight back but he is racing really well so I think he commands respect. He got a peach from Pinn to win at Sandown, saving all the ground by sticking hard up the fence and finished best to win well. Not sure he’ll get it on a platter like last start, but 2000m is fine and has run well at Caulfield previously.
1 Milford (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a knockout chance for Michael Moroney. He ran in the Deepstrike race from two weeks back at Sandown and I thought he worked home with real purpose, running fourth and beaten just under six lengths after getting back to near last in the run. He is only third up so he has good room for improvement and can settle much closer in the run.
Race 9. (16:33) Catanach's Jewellers (Bm84) 1200m
9 Prowling (Bet Now: $SP.00) is flying for Greg Eurell and has to be considered as one of the hardest to beat. Four weeks between runs since racing at Sandown where he got a mile out of his ground but loved the way he finished the race off behind Monarch Of Egypt. Has the potential to settle much closer in the run and Melham takes over so he has a bit in his corner.
1 Umgawa (Bet Now: $SP.00) should be a big improver here for Team Corstens. He was kept safe in betting when resuming in the Golden Topaz at Swan Hill and after getting a fair way out of his ground, he worked home with real purpose behind Yulong Storm. Fitter, gets in really well after the claim and with luck from the gate, he’s hard to beat.
4 Proconsent (Bet Now: $SP.00) is an improver at odds for Lindsey Smith. He comes through the Monarch Of Egypt race mentioned above where he didn’t look 100% late in the piece and the vet confirmed that post race, with mucus found, so a clear forgive run. Third up now so he should be hard fit, he maps okay and gets in pretty well after the claim.
