The Brisbane Summer Carnival continues at Doomben this Saturday, headlined by the BJ McLachlan Stakes (1200m). The weather is fine, the track is soft (5) and the rail is out a half metre for the entire circuit.

1 Irish Playboy (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is racing in super form for John Smerdon and rates as one of the hardest to beat. He was given a peach by Boris Thornton to win over the mile at Eagle Farm two weeks ago, getting the suck run behind the speed before angling into clear air and was able to finish best, just, over Indian Dreamer. Been up a little while but is holding his form and should be around the mark.

6 Indian Dreamer (Bet Now:  $SP.00) has done little wrong this time in. Only problem being he hasn’t been winning. Looked like he would two weeks back at this trip and surged hard the final few strides, just missing out on the win when a narrow second to Irish Playboy. Form around him reads very well and this isn’t an overly strong 80, so he should take beating against this lot.

Matty Dunn has done a super job with these OTI cast offs and here he has 2 Mirann (Bet Now:  $SP.00). If he runs up to his best, he has panels on this lot. It is just a matter of where he is at given he is a little while between runs but seemed to move well in the recent trial. I think just watch the market and see what it does because I think he could easily be $12-$6 and showcase his class.

12 Outback Gladiator (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is racing so well for Chris Munce but is finding it really hard to win. He ran over 2200m here just over two weeks ago where he was on speed throughout and he tried his guts out but couldn’t quite get there when a narrow second to Set Me Up. Form out of that race has been good and the form around him does read very well. Hoping for a truly run 2000m for him to be strongest late.

5 Savvy Oak (Bet Now:  $SP.00) has found winning form…can he hold it? That win came at this track/distance last Wednesday where he led throughout and I thought the ride from Lloyd was a peach, getting absolute control in front, getting a couple of cheap sectionals and turned it into a sit/sprint, with the ride winning the race. More depth here, but now he’s found form, I think he can hold it.

4 Hostage Of War (Bet Now:  $SP.00) loves the 2000m and gets to it for the first time this prep, and with his on speed racing style, I am sure he’ll give cheek. He ran over the mile two weeks back at Eagle Farm when leading and giving a sight but just felt the pinch at the end behind Irish Playboy. Depth here is nowhere near as strong, he’ll roll forward and give a sight at a big price.

1 Soothsayer (Bet Now:  $SP.00) has the runs on the board to give this a shake. He had a few weeks off prior to racing at Eagle Farm two weeks ago where he was caught wide early but eventually worked across to land on speed and was there to be run down but found plenty under pressure to fend them off and win. Proven performer at the mile and you’d think has improvement to come.

3 West Of Africa (Bet Now:  $SP.00) should love the rise to the mile for Annabel Neasham. Resumed with a strong win at the midweeks at Warwick Farm before going to 1400m at Eagle Farm two weeks ago where he got a fair way out of his ground and was good late when a narrow second to a very genuine animal, Soothsayer. Hard fit now and getting to 1600m, hard to beat if he can settle a pair or two closer in the run.

4 Red Top (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is yet to tick the 1600m box but is racing like it will be fine. Ran in the Soothsayer race from two weeks back at Eagle Farm where he just lacked the change up speed to put them away but stuck on and was pretty good in defeat behind the Freedman horse. I think 1600m will be suitable for him and he is only third up with petrol left in the tank so he should have upside to come.

2 Billionair Baby (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a quality son of Winning Rupert for Rob Heathcoate that resumes. He had a four run Winter prep to start his career, winning the last two in impressive fashion and establishing himself as a pretty good horse. Interesting he resumes without a public trial, so whether this is a trial for something down the track, not sure, but he has the engine under the hood to take beating.

Back to 1050m I do like for 1 All That Pizzazz (Bet Now:  $SP.00). Three weeks between runs since contesting the Pierata Plate here over 1200m where he was near the speed throughout and battled late, just failing to see out the six furlongs behind Lubrication. I think at this level, he’s much better suited at 1050m than 1200m and off the first up run, he certainly commands respect.

3 Hard To Say (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a jump/run type that will land on the bunny and run well. Ran around a month back at Wyong over 1100m where he attempted to lead throughout but copped heat in front and tired late in the piece. Fresh legs and back to 1050m, I think he’ll lead this field up and give a stack of cheek. Last 100m will be his test.

4 Worx (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a colt I do have time for. Annabel Neasham trained colt that debuted two weeks ago in the Phelan Ready where he was trucking behind the speed but didn’t get clear air at the right time and it was an ugly watch if you were on behind Godfather. I think with clear air this time around, I think he has the engine under the hood to go close against these.

6 Miss Coota (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is one of the top seeds when it comes to the locals and their babies. Chris Munce trained filly that has been kept on ice since the Spring where she made a mess of them in two career outings. The latest win was a spank job win over 1110m here on testing ground so 1200m, i think, will be fine. Jumps, runs, lands on the bunny and will take running down.

7 Mighty (Bet Now:  $SP.00) needs to improve off the debut win but there is no reason why she can’t. The debut win came at the Gold Coast where she was there to be run down but found under Orman, fended them off and was too good. Should be able to land in a nice spot from the good draw and stable has been flying with their juveniles. A win wouldn’t shock at all.

2 Palladas (Bet Now:  $SP.00) has found winning form…can he hold it? He was favourite when resuming two weeks ago at Eagle Farm and the way the track played, drawing gate one was gold and in the end, that was the difference between winning and losing, with a rail hugging ride ensuring he got the win. He’s always been an enigma, but hopefully with a resuming win, he can go on with it.

5 Joviality (Bet Now:  $SP.00) has returned in super order. Couple of solid trials for her leading into her return a fortnight back at Eagle Farm and she presented like she would win and did look the winner, but was nabbed late by Palladas, who had the track pattern in his corner and was able to finish best in a driving go. Think with a more fair track this time around, this mare will take beating.

3 Petronius (Bet Now:  $SP.00) will put himself on speed and prove hard to get past. Both runs for Barry Lockwoood have come here, winning fresh over 1200m before stepping up to this trip where he looked home but was nabbed late by Ucalledit, who spanked them last Saturday at Stakes grade and looks a sneaky Stradbroke horse for 2023. That form clearly reads well for a race like this.

2 Skyman (Bet Now:  $SP.00) surely is too good for this lot. His run in The Ingham, on paper, was just fair, but he rocketed to the line late from near last and was a big run in defeat I thought. Massive drop in grade/depth and with a half positive steer, I think he has a bit on these and is the good thing on the program IMO.

3 Aramayo (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is flying since joining Sam Kavanagh. Resumed with a strong fifth in The Hunter at Newcastle, though the query was whether he was flattered by the soft run, but he proved that was no fluke with a ripping fourth in The Ingham two weeks back. He only has to hold his form, never mind a hint of improvement, to go close to taking this out.

8 Dzsenifer (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is in with a shout. Jack Duncan trains this mare, who ran in the Brisbane Handicap at this track/distance where she was last in the run and was never a threat but made up pretty solid headway late in the piece when fourth to London Banker. She was only second up there so she should have room for improvement and dangerous if she can settle closer in the run.

It’s hard to knock the way 3 Garibaldi (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is going at the moment. Three weeks between runs since taking out the George Moore when Maloney put him into the sweet spot behind the speed and despite taking a little while into his work, he went through his gears and was very good late in winning. More depth here, doesn’t have the upside of others but only need to hold his form to be around the mark.

4 Shooting For Gold (Bet Now:  $SP.00) looks to be in for a good prep. Resumed over 1000m two weeks back in the Bribie at Eagle Farm where he paraded like he would need the run but he kept finding the line in a good return when a narrow second to Sneaky Five. Good return from him and I think he should appreciate the rise to 1200m, as well as getting to Doomben, where he absolutely excels.

14 Goldsborough (Bet Now:  $SP.00) should land in a plum spot from the gate and is a must for multiples. He attempted to lead throughout in the George Moore where he gave a strong kick in front and gave a sight but couldn’t quite finish the job when a close up fourth to Garibaldi. I think ridden with a sit will help his cause furthermore and if that happens, he’s a first four contender.

8 Charlie’s Case (Bet Now:  $SP.00) will do me in the get out. Jack Duncan trained gelding that ran two weeks ago at Eagle Farm where he was near the speed throughout and kept finding the line in a good effort behind Argyle Lane. Won’t mind a drop of rain hitting the track and from gate one, he should land in a plum spot and prove hard to beat, especially back to 1200m.

10 Deep Rouge (Bet Now:  $SP.00) has an awful racing pattern but she does have an engine. Market wanted her with confidence when racing here just over a fortnight back but she was near last in the run in a race dominated by those on speed, so forgive and forget she went around. Hopefully gets a more genuine tempo this time around and if she’s within range on the turn, she goes close to taking this out.

5 Prime Asset (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is one for multiples. He comes to town off the back of an all the way triumph at the Gold Coast where he was ridden like he was the best horse in the race by Wiggins and duly saluted in a strong display. I don’t think he can lead throughout to win, so ideally Loy can find cover, and if that is what happens, he is going well enough to pinch a first four spot.

LONG SHOT: Race Five Number 4 Worx
