Doomben will conduct a monster ten race program on Saturday. The weather is fine, the track is soft (5) and the rail is out four metres for the entire circuit.

Race 1. (12:23) Tab Create Spring Calendar-c3 1110m
6 Niedorp (Bet Now: $1.35) is a Tony Gollan trained mare that resumes. This girl hasn’t raced since June 6, which was Stradbroke Day at Eagle Farm, when placing in the Mick Dittman behind Aquitaine. She’s a bomb when produced fresh, saves her best for Doomben and her trial win indicates she’s ready to go. Think only bad luck beats her.
2 Genzai The Wolf (Bet Now: $5.50) can win again. David Murphy has done a really good job with this four year old, and was rewarded with a strong city win here two weeks ago, sitting off a good speed before peeling into clear air and he really attacked the line late to win well. This isn’t much harder, so happy to be in his corner.
3 Magic Fox (Bet Now: $12.00) isn’t the most reliable galloper going around, but there looks to be intent here first up for Kelly Schweida. He’s got leading rider Brad Stewart to steer fresh, one soft trial whereas last prep prior to the resumption he had one strong trial win, and resumes in a Class 3, where he is eligible on ratings to tackle something stronger. Definite market watch.
Race 2. (12:58) Driver Recruitment Hcp 1200m
4 Jetty (Bet Now: $4.60) is on top. Team Edmonds trained son of Jet Spur that had two runs towards the end of the Autumn on his home track at the Gold Coast to start his career, winning impressively on debut before a game second to Wisdom Of Water, who went on to win a Stakes race, so the form does read well and loved his recent trial win, when extending out nicely late.
5 Xerri (Bet Now: $3.80) is a Team Edmonds trained three year old that is working up to a win. He was met with good market support when racing at this track/distance two weeks back but unfortunately for his fans, he was caught wide and did too much work, but was brave in defeat behind Batangas Entry. Better luck and he’ll go close.
6 Corvo (Bet Now: $7.00) has his share of talent. Son of Spirit Of Boom for the Gollan camp that resumed at this track/distance a fortnight ago where he was eased back to near last from the wide gate and was never really a winning threat, but liked the way he found the line behind Batangas Entry. If he can sit closer in the run, he’ll be dangerous.
Race 3. (13:33) Bucher Municipal Hcp (c6) 1615m
Been a little while since 2 Ziemba (Bet Now: $2.80) has raced at the mile but he’s racing like he will appreciate it. Last couple of runs have come over 1350m here, winning two back before a game effort behind Beaufort Park two weeks ago, finishing third. He’s racing like the mile will suit and now he gets it, so he’ll do me here.
3 Love Struck (Bet Now: $6.00) is a beauty for Scott Morrisey. He was over a month between runs when racing over 1350m here a fortnight back and he was good late, although had his chance behind Beaufort Park. He probably just needed the run to be fair, so he’ll come on from that and is proven at this level. Hard to beat.
4 Shogun Sun (Bet Now: $18.00) is a horse I couldn’t back to win given it’s been such a long run of outs, but he has a few things going for him here, namely an inside gate to do no work, and also gets the Blinkers back on. Last time that gear change happened, he won, so it’s just about last chance territory, but his best is good enough.
Race 4. (14:08) Suez 2yo Plate 1110m
Good placement from Annabel Neasham with 5 Ghostwriter (Bet Now: $4.40). He is an I Am Invincible colt that is on debut off the back of a couple of sharp trial wins back in Sydney. Was accepted for Randwick, but immediately scratched for this race and of the unraced brigade, he is clearly the pick, plus the raced brigade doesn’t appear overly great.
9 Shaluna (Bet Now: $9.00) does look the pick of the raced brigade. Was hard in the market when debuting here two weeks ago and on face value, she was plain when fourth, but vet found her to be galloped on, so there were excuses for her. Had trialled well leading in, so think you have to give her another chance off that work.
6 Le Force (Bet Now: $5.00) is a Darryl Hansen trained juvenile on debut. He trialled at the Sunny Coast on Tuesday and looked to go about his business pretty nicely when winning his trial in okay time relative to the morning. Stable/jock combo have had good success in the past with juveniles, so I think he’s a market watch.
Race 5. (14:43) Daimler Trucks Brisbane (bm72) 2020m
11 Ocean Treaty (Bet Now: $3.20) is a Steve O’Dea trained mare that is looking to make it four on end. She’s been really well placed by the stable, going through her grades and not aiming too high. Impressive win at the Gold Coast last time out because she was asked to chase from a fair way, but was strong to and through the line, suggesting 2000m here will be fine, and hard to knock a mare in form.
4 Takeittothelimit (Bet Now: $3.70) has been very interesting this time in. Whilst she’s raced pretty well for the most part, the market at her past three outings hasn’t wanted a bar of her, yet she has won twice, the latest coming last Wednesday at Ipswich under a lovely ride from Georgina Cartwright. She’s a leading chance here, but watch the market.
7 Blacklog (Bet Now: $16.00) is the watch horse. Scott Morrisey trained stayer that was 2400m back to the mile when racing here last Saturday. He got back in the run and tried hard, but was never a winning threat behind Seeingisbelieving. The seven day back up has worked well for this horse this time in and I think he’s big odds here.
Race 6. (15:23) Nugrow Hcp 1200m
It’s a fair step up in grade/depth for 5 Paredo (Bet Now: $3.20), but you couldn’t have been more impressed by her first up win last Wednesday at Ipswich. She made an absolute mess of them, leading throughout to spank her rivals, including a heavily backed runner, and ran 33.7 for her last 600m. Outstanding effort and if she brings that here, she’ll measure up for sure.
3 Starosa (Bet Now: $4.40) is a Tony Gollan trained filly that resumes. As the Winter Carnival approached, she looked a leading chance for the JJ Atkins but she got beat as a $1.40 pop at the Sunny Coast, then failed badly in the big one before being spelled. Trialled well enough here recently and has class/quality to nearly carry her home.
7 Better Get Set (Bet Now: $15.00) looks to have some ability. Resumed over 1000m at the Sunny Coast where she had the suck run in behind before getting the split and under a confident ride from Huxtable, she was much too good. Did she beat much? Probably not, but it was the confidence boost she needed and think she can run well against these.
Race 7. (16:06) Mr Suez Jim Cahill Plate (c6) 1350m
9 Fisticuffs (Bet Now: $4.40) is a horse I want to give another chance to. On face value, was just a run behind Beaufort Park two weeks ago, but considering the winner went sub 34 for his last 600m and Fisticuffs was near last on the turn, he had no hope of winning. Hopefully the tempo is more genuine and he can finish over the top.
1 All Important (Bet Now: $10.00) is knocking on the door to win a race this time in. Tony Gollan trained gelding that has finished runner up at his past couple, the latest coming here two weeks back when on speed and fighting on so gamely. Just got grabbed late by Beaufort Park in a very good effort. Deserves a win and gets his chance here.
14 Unguarded (Bet Now: $14.00) can win again. Chris Munce trained mare that produced a monster effort to win over 1200m here two weeks ago. She was tardy to begin and back near last in the run, but Larry Cassidy was able to slice her way through the field and away she went late, drawing clear for a super win. Repeat effort and I think she can go close.
Race 8. (16:43) Austrans (bm90) 1050m
There is good speed engaged here, but won’t be enough I don’t think to cross 12 Spaceboy (Bet Now: $2.70), who looks well placed to resume a winner. Hasn’t raced since July 18 on the Kenso track when making it three on end and he was outstanding in winning given the early pressure he copped. Two trials to get ready have been good, he should hold the lead and prove too good.
2 Jami Lady (Bet Now: $7.00) is a quality mare for Steve O’Dea that resumes. This girl hasn’t raced since the Gai Waterhouse at Ipswich when a close up second to Solar Star, which was over 1350m, a trip probably a touch further than what her sweet spot is, which on form is 1200m. But she is 3/6 at 1000m and looks in great order if the Deagon trial is any guide.
6 Capital Connection (Bet Now: $35.00) is certainly capable. Tony Gollan trained speedster that resumes three weeks ago at Eagle Farm when near a fast early speed and he couldn’t sustain it in the run to the line behind Spurcraft. He can be hit and miss but if he’s allowed to get on speed and dominate proceedings, he’s good enough.
Race 9. (17:22) Superior Pak Hcp 1350m
Third up, stepping to 1350m, this just looks a perfect race for 7 Red Chase (Bet Now: $3.60). Very good late fresh in the Weetwood before going to 1200m here where he just got too far back in the run but loved the way he found the line late behind Jadentom. He’s flying this bloke and should just about be at peak fitness now.
12 Grey Missile (Bet Now: $16.00) has a fabulous second up record. Team Edmonds trained gelding that had trialled up well prior to resuming over 1200m here a fortnight back where he was kept pretty safe in betting but didn’t really fire a shot and was disappointing I thought. He’s better than that, and that second up record has him in the mix.
11 Junction (Bet Now: $21.00) is a Mark Currie trained gelding that was a brilliant first up winner to start the prep but his form since was a bit hit and miss, so it was good to see him bounce back into the winners list a few weeks back at Toowoomba when having a struggle with Plitvice but his race fitness came to the fore late. He can win again.
Race 10. (18:05) Sky Racing (bm78) 1200m
On top is 13 Oh Five Glory (Bet Now: $5.00) for the Hulbert camp. This will be the third week on the bounce she races, but is holding her form really well. In saying that, she has let punters down. Looked to get every chance last Saturday but had no answers late for Goodonya Sonja. Maps to stalk Le Palmier and have last look, so she’s the one for me.
7 Thine Is The Power (Bet Now: $3.70) is a quality mare for the Edmonds stable that resumes. This girl produced a really strong Autumn prep, winning on a couple of occasions and all but establishing herself as a city class horse. Liked the two trials to get ready for her return and maps to sit off what looks a good tempo.
2 Snowzone (Bet Now: $6.50) is the class runner of the field and with the scratchings, the wide barrier isn’t so bad. Hasn’t raced for six weeks since running a close up second over 1350m here behind Ziemba. Fresh legs and back to 1200m, he can sit off a good speed and be strong late. One of the hardest to beat I feel.
