24/1/2026 Horse Racing Tips and Best Bets – Caulfield, Blue Diamond Previews day

The smell of Autumn is in the air at Caulfield this Saturday with a bumper ten race card, stacked of blacktype racing. Weather is fine, track is good (4) and the rail is in the true position for the entire circuit.

5 Taken (Bet Now:  $SP.00) has been given a mini freshen up since The Supernova when seemingly outclassed on paper and ran accordingly behind Warnie. Looks to have jumped out well since and he is a good horse, with good upside. He can bounce back hard here.

3 Verdad (Bet Now:  $SP.00) ran a narrow second in the Coastal Classic three weeks ago at Geelong. He got into a decent spot in transit and was there to win but just couldn’t quite get there when second to Precious Charm. Hard to beat against these I say.

1 Taramansour (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is using that as a lead up towards the Adelaide Cup, I’d assume anyway, but he is capable of sneaking into the first four with residual fitness, having not raced for six weeks between taking out the Pakenham Cup under a peach from Currie. Doubt he wins but is a first four contender.

I think 2 Milsons Point (Bet Now:  $SP.00) picks himself here in what looks a pretty ordinary race to be honest. He hasn’t raced since Dec 13 when a sharp debut winner on Pakenham Cup Day. Did he beat much? No, but the manner in which he put them away and how impressive he was, it was sharp. Tick over jumpout was good, he’ll be strong late…like him.

1 Eurocanto (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a Per Incanto colt for Team Hayes that has been kept on ice since Oct 4 when winning the Maribyrnong Trial at Flemington, knuckling down with purpose late to win and win well. He has been tuned up with a couple of jumpouts, I say he is here to play.

7 High Alert (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is an interesting runner for Team Freedman. Good guide for him here is that he has had the 1050m trial under the belt, in Sydney, so the grounding is well and truly there. Watch betting.

6 Angels Fury (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a Harry Angel filly that debuts for Ciaron Maher. She has won both jumpouts this time in to get ready for start one, both at Cranbourne, and each time has moved quite well I thought. Bred to be handy and the jumpouts indicate she does have talent. Hard to beat.

1 Streisand (Bet Now:  $SP.00) runs well I say. Didn’t do much wrong in two runs during the Spring. Just not sure what upside she has left, whether that was her or not. Recent jumpout was solid and with luck from the gate, should be around the mark.

8 Explosive Magic (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a Pinatubo filly for Liam Howley that debuts. She trialled at Sandown last Thursday when second to Jadzia and while safely held, I thought she moved well and looks to have ability. I’d watch betting and see what it does with her.

14 Supercilious (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is hard to beat for Corstens/Larkin. This mare was thrown in the deep end three weeks ago in the Black Pearl at Geelong and while she was never a winning threat, she kept chasing and was very good in defeat. Back to this level, 1400m, she appeals big time.

9 Quiseen (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is five weeks between runs since being runner up on the Heath track here. She got into a decent spot in transit just off speed and tried hard but had to settle for a second to Gracie’s Rain. Maps ideally, she is a key threat.

3 Shoeless (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a Shawn Mathrick trained gelding that resumes. He is first up, having not raced since Sep 20 over the mile here when back and failed to really come on behind Al Duca. Fresh at 1400m I do like for him and he has jumped out well for the return.

10 Expulsion (Bet Now:  $SP.00) could have gone to the Manfred but instead she goes here, I dare say to try and get her rating up to target better races. She resumed with an absolute bang at Sandown, sitting off speed and was bolting before being clicked up when clear and away she went to win comfortably. Dynamic return, she takes beating against these.

4 Declared (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is two weeks between runs since a first up win at Murray Bridge, giving them a start and a beating in an impressive effort. Good upside to come, fast run 1100m, he’s one of the key threats.

9 La Astro Chat (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a knockout hope. Short course specialist that was a sharp winner over 1000m at Mornington last start, sitting near the speed before being clicked up and away he went to win and win well. Should press forward and be dangerous.

5 Stylish Secret (Bet Now:  $SP.00) ran fifth to Sun Gift at Flemington. He got into a decent spot in transit just off speed and tried hard but 1600m to 2000m, he just couldn’t quite finish the race off. Maps ideally and now he has that 2000m run under the belt.

6 Suntora (Bet Now:  $SP.00) ran third two weeks back behind Tarvue over 1800m. She got into a decent spot in transit just off speed and she tried hard but just couldn’t quite get there when third to the in form mare. Like her up to 2000m and is one of the leading contenders.

1 Dublin Journal (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is three weeks between runs since contesting the Coastal Classic at Geelong when outclassed on paper but I thought was far from disgraced in defeat. Back to 78 grade and up to 2000m, he appeals as a knockout hope.

7 Beast Mode (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a speed demon for Team Hayes that appears so well suited at 1000m here. His last run came on Dec 20 on the Heath track, leading and went hard in front, tiring late when second to Chinqui. He’ll jump/run and take a power of running down.

4 Oak Hill (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a Team Hayes trained gelding that resumes. He is first up, having not raced since Sep 20 when a close up second over 1100m here to Tiger Shark, driving hard late from off speed but just missed. Looks to have jumped out very well, watch betting.

3 Midwest (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a Team Freedman trained sprinter that resumes. He is first up, having not raced since Sep 6 when down the track in the Moir behind Baraqiel. Given an extended break and looks to have jumped out really well so watch the market.

3 Romantic Encounter (Bet Now:  $SP.00) looks ready to rock and roll, and is one who I think could be a knockout for the Australian Guineas. He hasn’t raced since the Caulfield Guineas where it was too much too soon and he was never a factor. Fresh legs, has looked very sharp in jumpout work…keen on his prospects.

6 Salty Pearl (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a quality filly that ended last prep on a high when taking out the Fillies Classic at The Valley on Cox Plate Day. That was over the mile so 1200m is short of her best but she does have a touch of class about her and will be strong late.

8 Naifah (Bet Now:  $SP.00) comes here for Price/Kent after placing in the Black Pearl three weeks ago at Geelong. She was helped by fence in run but she kept chasing and finding the line in defeat. Think she’ll run really well against these.

1 Attrition (Bet Now:  $SP.00) has class on his side and I’ll bank on that class getting him home. He hasn’t raced since the Champions Stakes when outclassed but far from disgraced in defeat behind Via Sistina. Looked strong in a Terang jumpout and he won’t know himself in a race like this.

11 Justadeel (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is first up for Team Hayes. His last run came in The Big Dance when back off speed and worked home really well late when fourth to Gringotts. Looks to have jumped out well for the return, watch the market.

10 Hughes (Bet Now:  $SP.00) ran down the track in the Kensington on New Years Eve at Flemington. I want to be forgiving because it looked a race where it was hard to make up ground and he was back, trying to make up headway. Better suited here, he can bounce back.

12 Yes I Know (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is the way I am leaning. He ran last Saturday at Flemington where he looked all over the winner when presented but just couldn’t quite see it through when third to Fiorenot. Good weight relief, hard fit, he appeals.

5 Touchdown (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is very progressive and heading in the right direction. Team Hayes trained gelding that was a sharp winner at Caulfield Heath a few weeks ago, getting better as the race went on and was impressive in the run to the line. Good test here but confident he can measure up.

4 Sunsets (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is several weeks between runs since resuming at Caulfield Heath. He got into a decent spot off speed and tried hard to reel them in but couldn’t quite. That said, he was game in defeat behind Roadcone. Good upside to come, he appeals.
