A strong nine event meeting has been assembled for Doomben on Saturday. The weather is fine, the track is heavy (8) and the rail is out 2.5 metres for the entire circuit.

Race 1. (11:58) Racecourse Village (Rs0mw) 1200m
2 Mort Doyle (Bet Now: $26.00) can bounce back. I was with him when he raced here two weeks ago and it was an ugly watch. He was looming to be a threat the way he was trucking but he couldn’t get clear air and it ended up being a barrier trial. if the breaks go his way, he can certainly take this out.
17 He’s The News (Bet Now: $18.00) is dangerous for Kelly Schweida. I thought there was a lot of merit to his first up run behind Delyth two weeks back. He was building nicely to fill a place but the final 200m, being first up, he got a stitch and ran fourth. Fitter, he’s a definite winning chance.
16 Sip It Slow (Bet Now: $26.00) has measured up in town before and this is a very winnable race. She ran on the Poly at the Sunny Coast last time where she was near the speed throughout and tried hard, but was no match for a talented horse in Superare. With luck from a tricky gate, with good wet track stats, she’s a key threat.
Race 2. (12:33) Country Music R'day 10/9-Bm90 2200m
8 Hostage Of War (Bet Now: $6.50) will give a sight from the front. He’s an iron horse for Brenton Andrew that lumped 64.5kg to bolt up in the Gatton Cup three back before a down the track effort at the Sunny Coast. He then went here last Wednesday where he attempted to lead throughout and gave a sight but felt the pinch late when fourth to Barade. Last bit will test, but he’ll give a sight for the supporters.
4 Fast Talking (Bet Now: $1.60) is hard fit and racing in really good form at the moment. Ran over 2000m here last Wednesday where he was given a peach by KWT and there to win, but couldn’t quite finish it off, nabbed late by Barade. 2200m is a query, but weight relief and wet track helps the cause.
2 Seat Of Power (Bet Now: $3.10) has a good record at Doomben and can bounce back. Somewhat thrown in the deep end last start in the Sunny Coast Cup and he was outclassed, as well as not handling the bog track behind Le Don De Vie. Much better suited at this level, so expect improvement.
Race 3. (13:08) Cascade Hcp 1050m
1 All That Pizzazz (Bet Now: $2.05) has the runs on the board to give this a shake. He was sent to the Rocky Carnival where he found himself in a strong 2YO race but class got him home, along with a peach steer from Pike. Proven on wet ground, hard fit and in form, he’s very likeable.
8 Tow The Line (Bet Now: $2.70) is short enough, but does have talent. Not sure she beat a great deal fresh on the Poly at the Sunny Coast but she made a mess of them justifying the short quote. Clearly more depth to this line up, but should roll forward and give herself every chance.
5 Alert State (Bet Now: $18.00) comes right into play if this track is bottomless, and with the rain forecast, it will be. He found similar conditions at Beaudesert last time, surging hard and running down a tearaway leader to win well. That was his first run in a month so you’d like to think there is improvement to come.
Race 4. (13:43) Gallopers Sports Club Hcp (C6) 1350m
2 Joviality (Bet Now: $4.00) isn’t the most reliable mare going around but I think she’s going well enough to take this out. Ran over this track/distance two weeks ago when off the speed before being presented clear air and surged hard late to just miss when a narrow third to Wham. Back to her own sex with give in the track, if the heavy rain that is predicted hits, then she’s the one to beat.
5 Glitter Strip (Bet Now: $3.40) hasn’t won since Moses parted the sea but that said, she is a mare that is racing in solid form. Ran over this trip three weeks ago at the Sunny Coast and worked to the line nicely as she so often does, but was no match for Puntura. Bursting to win a race…can she win this?
If this track was dry, I’d declare 1 Starla (Bet Now: $5.00). I think she’s flying for Chris Waller. She was outstanding from the back two weeks back behind Wham, clocking fast late splits to run a close up fourth. She can handle a Soft6, but anything worse, as I think it will be, then she’s only a first four chance.
Race 5. (14:18) Sky Racing Plate (C3) 1110m
5 Proper Rogue (Bet Now: $2.35) is suited at 1110m I feel. First run for Tony Gollan came over 1200m here a fortnight back and he seemingly had his chance behind Delyth, running second, but I think he wasn’t that strong late (7th best final 200m of the race), so for mine, he’s a short course horse and back to 1110m suits.
9 Turboart (Bet Now: $7.00) deserves a crack in town for Mark Currie. He has simply been too good for them on the home deck at Toowoomba his past two, proving himself to be a short course specialist. Good test for him here, but stable rarely misfire when they come to town.
Good test here for 8 Iring (Bet Now: $21.00) but he is a horse with talent for Allan Chau. He found a bog track during the Grafton Carnival over 1200m and under a patient steer from Cormack, he finished best. Back in trip no issue and from a soft gate, I think he’ll only run well.
Race 6. (14:57) Brc Family Raceday 30/7 (Bm90) 1615m
5 Puntura (Bet Now: $3.10) is a progressive animal for Barry Baldwin that commands respect here. His last couple have come over 1400m at the Sunny Coast. He was good late two back behind Broken Hero before racing three weeks back and he made a mess of them, seemingly lapping up the bog track. He’s won at the mile previously so the rise to 1600m no issue and is in form.
7 Skins (Bet Now: $8.50) has been somewhat disappointing this time in but with racing, he is steadily getting better and I think can take this out. Just a run in his first two efforts for the prep at Ipswich but he raced here two weeks ago and was very good from the back behind Wham after being snagged from the wide gate. Hard to beat if he can settle closer in the run.
8 Zing (Bet Now: $4.50) is a last start Stakes placegetter at this track/distance, so she commands respect. Jury was somewhat out on her this time in but they rode her cold in the Pam O’Neill and the end result was an electric finale from the back when a narrow second to Tycoon Evie. If she can settle closer in the run, she’ll take beating.
Race 7. (15:37) Xxxx Dry (Bm75) 1615m
11 Tarex (Bet Now: $1.95) looks hard to beat for Lawrie Mayfield-Smith. He ran three weeks ago in the Winx Guineas at the Sunny Coast and worked to the line quite strongly when second to dominant winner Majestic Colour. He’s come back in super order and I think he has to rate as the one to beat.
15 Secret Tales (Bet Now: $7.50) should love the rise to the mile. O’Dea/Hoysted trained filly that was down the track in the Bracelet, which made the stable abort QLD Oaks plans. Freshened up and went to 1350m here where she got back to near last in the run and was very good late after getting back in the run. If she can settle closer in the run, she’ll take beating.
10 Tairua (Bet Now: $14.00) needs luck from the gate but she is a mare with talent for Paul Jenkins. She ran behind Puntura three weeks back at the Sunny Coast where she got a mile out of her ground and was never a threat, but good late behind the in form Puntura. Knockout chance with luck from the draw.
Race 8. (16:13) Brc Membership Hcp 1050m
14 Mishani Sniper (Bet Now: $17.00) is worth a throw at the stumps at a price. On the seven day back up for Les Ross after racing last Saturday at Eagle Farm where he got back to near last in the run and was solid late without threatening. Run prior at the Sunny Coast was strong and now with 49.5kg on her back, I want to be on something strong late and he will be that.
The wide gate is a query with 7 Lime Soda (Bet Now: $6.00) but hard fit, in form, I think she gets a great chance to stay in the winners list. She was always the winner in the run at the Sunny Coast three weeks ago and she duly made a mess of them in a dominant display. If she can get the luck from the gate, she’ll take beating.
9 Muschialli (Bet Now: $7.50) can be a big improver here. Tony Gollan trained three year old that resumed a few weeks back at the Sunny Coast where he got back in the run and while he was never a threat, his finale was sound enough behind Lime Soda. Fitter, up in trip, expect improvement.
Race 9. (16:47) Tab Venue Mode Hcp (C6) 1350m
6 Safework (Bet Now: $3.20) has come back in super and is a must for multiples. Ran a good second to Uncommon James fresh at Eagle Farm before racing here two weeks ago and was good from the back when second to an in form Goldsborough. That form reads very well and has a fab track/distance record.
2 Don’t Stop (Bet Now: $4.00) is one I can entertain for wider multiples. He sat on speed at this track/distance a fortnight back and gave a pretty solid kick but just couldn’t quite finish the job behind Wham in a blanket finish. Last bit may test, but I think he’ll run you a decent race at a price.
9 Enterprise Prince (Bet Now: $13.00) has been somewhat disappointing this time in but his best is certainly good enough. They rode him negatively here two weeks back behind Wham but he didn’t fire and was pretty plain late in the piece. Perhaps a soft gate and economical run can see improvement.
