A bumper nine race program has been set down for Morphettville this Saturday for R N Irwin Stakes Day. The weather is fine, the track is good (4) and the rail is out eleven metres from the 1200m-Winning Post; Out eight metres for the remainder.

Race 1. (12:22) The Junction (bm82) 2500m
Siding with 2 Vardani (Bet Now: $4.00) in the opener. I can’t see any early speed and anticipating a crawling tempo, so I want to be on a horse with change up speed and this guy has it. Far from disgraced last time out at Bendigo when fourth to Point Nepean, who won last Saturday to frank the form. He finds a very thin race so happy to be in his corner.
1 Grinzinger Star (Bet Now: $3.90) is too good for Port Lincoln and deserves a crack at metro level. Spank job win two back in the Streaky Bay Cup before going to the Kimba Cup at Port Lincoln where he was ridden like a good thing by Chung and he duly was a good thing. I think he’ll measure up here.
5 So Bene (Bet Now: $3.10) is an Andrew Clarken trained mare that has talent but finds it hard to greet the judge first. Second two back in the Lord Reims here before going to Gawler where she looked a good thing on paper and she looked home when Vorster presented but she found one better. Bursting to win. Just finding it hard to trust her to do it.
Race 2. (12:57) Adel Racing Carnival 30/4-21/5 1050m
10 Snow Falcon (Bet Now: $3.90) on top. Daughter of Lonhro on debut for Phillip Stokes and I was taken by her trial win at Traralgon where she led throughout. She was absolutely trucking on speed and wasn’t asked for an effort by Duric in winning. She’s above average I think and confident she can make a winning debut.
4 Prairie Flower (Bet Now: $4.80) is in the mix. Henry Dwyer trained filly that resumed with a strong maiden win at Ballarat before going to the Redoute’s Choice at Caulfield where she was okay late behind Cannonball, but was found to be lame post race. Market watch for sure with this stable.
1 Seven Secrets (Bet Now: $7.00) looks a gelding with talent for the Macdonald/Gluyas camp. Hard in the market when debuting over 1100m at Gawler where he led and tried hard, but was no match late for Super Sharp. Not sure how strong that race was, but has the experience under the belt.
Race 3. (13:32) Fleurieu Milk Company Mdn 1200m
5 Strike Award (Bet Now: $3.20) is a John Hyam trained three year old that resumes. He had a two run early Winter prep to start his career last year, finishing runner up each time in some tidy races. Been given a good break and I thought his recent trial win on the Parks track was quite good.
9 Barbaline (Bet Now: $5.50) is a key threat. Ran over 1100m here in a maiden three weeks ago where she was wide and doing work, chasing from the outset, and stuck on okay to finish third. 3kg claim, gate one, the set up looks idea for her. Hopefully the gate is used to advantage.
2 Boogie Nights (Bet Now: $13.00) is one I could entertain for wider multiples. Sat just off the speed at Strathalbyn last time and battled away pretty well when a close up fifth. There is good depth to this maiden, so doubt he wins, but I think he could pinch a first four spot at a price.
Race 4. (14:12) Keep The Legacy Promise (bm78) 1050m
4 Smokin’ Val (Bet Now: $7.00) is getting close to D-Day I feel. Three weeks between runs since racing in the Manihi at Morphettville where she just found them a bit sharp but was far from disgraced in defeat behind Lombardo. Form out of that didn’t stack up at all last Saturday but I do think back to 78 grade suits and she’ll be strong late.
6 Silver On Red (Bet Now: $12.00) is much better suited at this level. Thrown in the deep end well and truly here in the Manihi and rightfully didn’t fire a shot behind Lombardo, finishing down the track. The couple of runs prior were strong and off those efforts, he can bounce back here.
2 Larkham (Bet Now: $13.00) has been racing in really good form this time in for Ryan Balfour and does command respect. Ran over this track/distance three weeks ago when near the speed and battling away okay behind impressive winner Gaze Grise. Stable is in form and while he lacks class, he has a hard fitness edge.
Race 5. (14:52) Grand Synd.-new Yearlings-bm78 1200m
2 Another Award (Bet Now: $2.80) is a talented mare for the Macdonald/Gluyas camp that should appreciate a step back up in trip. Ran over 1200m several weeks ago where she sat back off the fast speed before being presented clear air and she put the race to bed quite quickly, winning in impressive fashion. Not sure she’ll get that set up here, but hard to knock the way she’s returned.
4 Office Jim (Bet Now: $7.50) is racing well for Team Freedman. Four weeks between runs since racing on the Parks track here where he was helped by the track pattern, sitting near the speed, fence in run, and found plenty when fending off Munster. Races well on the fresh side and this looks a winnable race.
11 Outpost (Bet Now: $15.00) is an improver. Resumed behind Gaze Grise three weeks back at Morphettville where he was in behind the speed and seemingly getting a good run, but I think he was just run off his legs trying to stay in touch and that took away his finale. Fitter, he’ll be dangerous.
Race 6. (15:32) R N Irwin Stakes 1100m
1 Trekking (Bet Now: $2.60) should be winning. Prep run first up down the straight at Flemington before gong to the William Reid where he had no luck and should have placed with clear air behind September Run. Fab record at the trip, good speed in front, class gets him home.
6 Instant Celebrity (Bet Now: $3.20) is a quality mare for Phillip Stokes that resumes. This girl hasn’t raced since Derby Day at Flemington when running last of seven in the Linlithglow behind Justacanta. She races well earlier in the prep and her Traralgon trial was a good piece of work. Hard to beat.
2 Dexelation (Bet Now: $6.00) is a beauty for Team Jolly, a stable that has taken over from Team McEvoy as the form stable in SA. This guy resumed in the Manihi where he was run off his legs but solid late without threatening behind Lombardo. Fitter, he’ll be dangerous if he’s within range.
Race 7. (16:09) Furphy (bm60) 1600m
10 Rebel Lee (Bet Now: $7.50) is a talented filly for the Macdonald/Gluyas camp that could put her hand up for the Oaks with a win here. Looked home but was nabbed late two back at Oakbank before going to Gawler where she was ridden stone cold but came with a brilliant finale to win and win impressively. Off that, extra 100m is ideal and gets in nicely after the claim.
3 Ambidazzle (Bet Now: $6.50) is knocking on the door to win again. Sat on speed a fortnight back here and tried her guts out, but was no match late for Fox D’Or, a horse in form. I reckon this mare is better with a sit so with a more conservative steer, I think she’ll be more effective.
6 Big Sue (Bet Now: $5.00) has done little wrong in a five start career for Darryl Dodson. Broke the maiden tag impressively two back at Penola before going to the Fox D’Or race and worked on speed. Credit to him, he fought on pretty well in defeat behind the Balfour race. He was 1100m to 1500m there, so with the run under the belt, 1600m here should be fine.
Race 8. (16:47) Redelva Stakes 1100m
1 Bacchanalia (Bet Now: $3.50) has returned in good order. Resumed in the Darby Munro several weeks back at Rosehill and stuck to the task pretty well but was no match for Mazu. Showed really good promise when last in work. Kept on ice to find blacktype and this looks a perfect race.
3 Heresy (Bet Now: $4.00) is three weeks between runs for James Cummings since getting the job done with a PJ Bell triumph, helped by a peach from an in form Nash Rawilller, coming with a perfectly timed run to nail her stablemates late. Drawn wide, likely to get back again and launch late.
11 Libiamo (Bet Now: $20.00) looks a talented filly for Will Clarken that I think should have won fresh two weeks ago here. Just got a bit too far back but presented to win. Unfortunately she wanted to do a bit wrong in the straight and threw it away when beaten a lip by Rodeo. Has talent, and in the right camp.
Race 9. (17:25) M&b Stewart's 64th Anniv-bm82 1600m
9 Feuermond (Bet Now: $4.00) is three weeks between runs for Lindsey Smith since resuming at this track/distance where he wasn’t given much of a steer by Thomas Stockdale and really, any hint of normal luck and the horse wins instead of a second to Smart Promise. Good return…is there eyes on Warrnambool? Potentially, so watch the market.
14 Impossible Action (Bet Now: $4.60) has found positive form and is holding it. Strong winner two back on the Parks track before going here two weeks ago when a close up third to surprise winner My Mate Sonny in a driving go. The query leading into that was the mile but off last run, it should be fine.
3 Magnetic Edge (Bet Now: $17.00) is on the seven day back up after racing last Saturday at Oakbank where I’m not sure the tight track was to his liking so want to be forgiving of that effort. Prior effot behind Another Award here was a beauty and off that, he’s definitely in the mix.
