Hobartville Stakes 🏆: View the Field and Odds for the Hobartville Stakes
Race 1. (12:30) Midway (Bm72) 1500m
8 It’s A Wonder (Bet Now: $SP.00) is capable with her best. Forgive and forget the run behind Magnatear a few weeks back. She got back in the run and in a slowly run race, she couldn’t really get involved so forgive and forget the run. Think with a more genuine tempo here, she’ll be around the mark and hopefully can use the inside gate to advantage…go on K Mac.
2 Mogwai (Bet Now: $SP.00) is an improver for Team Price. He is three weeks between runs since racing over 1350m here in a strong 78 and was far from disgraced in defeat behind the in form Bunker Hut. The rise to 1500m does look ideal and maps to get a sweet run in transit.
6 Herb (Bet Now: $SP.00) is third up from a spell and should just about be at peak fitness. He ran behind Spicy Hotpot three weeks back here in the Midway. I thought he got a decent enough run in transit and was entitled to finish off better, just whacking to the line late in the piece. Hard fit, not dismissing him.
Race 2. (13:05) Tab Highway Hcp (C3) 1300m
7 Bide Your Time (Bet Now: $SP.00) looks a good mover for Danielle Seib so keen to see how he goes at Highway level. 2/2 to start his career, debuting with a win at Wagga Riverside in impressive fashion before a sharp victory on the course proper. Tick over trial was good and beware the unbeaten horse.
9 Off The Press (Bet Now: $SP.00) will likely spot them a start but has talent for Cody Morgan. He ran in the Highway at Randwick last time where he was near last in the run but made up many lengths and was good in defeat behind Lisztomania. If he can be within range, he has the finale to be dangerous.
1 Lang Park (Bet Now: $SP.00) has the right form around him to give this a shake. Recent run was at Goulburn when on speed and tried hard but just couldn’t quite see it through behind proven Highway performer Cable Express. That form does read well for this.
Race 3. (13:40) Rosehill Bowling Club (Bm78) 1300m
5 Step Aside (Bet Now: $SP.00) comes through a 1350m race from a few weeks back at Rosehill when off speed and kept chasing in a pretty good effort in defeat when third to impressive winner Bunket Hut, which followed him dumping the rider a week prior at Randwick so the fitness is no issue and he’s knocking on the door.
2 Baroque Road (Bet Now: $SP.00) can bounce back big time here. Thrown in the deep end last time out at the Gold Coast in the Magic Millions Snippets when back near last and made up some headway without threatening behind Zarastro. Can settle on speed, takes beating at a likely decent price.
1 Cadetship (Bet Now: $SP.00) is one I can entertain for exotics. He comes through the Bunker Hut race from a few weeks back at Rosehill where he got off speed and was never really threatening but did make up ground in defeat. Not sure he is good enough to win but can run top four.
Race 4. (14:15) Ranvet (Bm78) 1100m
13 Theblade (Bet Now: $SP.00) is the one to beat I say. Team Hawkes trained three year old that resumes and was scratched from a much weaker race at Canterbury in preference for this. He has good talent and loved the way he moved in a recent trial. Keen to see how he goes.
4 Boston Rocks (Bet Now: $SP.00) is getting towards D Day. He ran a few weeks back and I thought had his chance but was a bit on the plain side late in the piece behind Yiska, albeit not beaten far, but he had the run to win. Hard to trust/follow with confidence but the talent is there.
13 Art’s Alive (Bet Now: $SP.00) has to be given a look for Brad Widdup off the back of a win here three weeks ago where she was a big price but she gave them a start and a beating to win and win well. Has that 1200m run under the belt, which holds her in good stead.
Race 5. (14:50) Millie Fox Stakes 1300m
3 Scarlet Oak (Bet Now: $SP.00) looks to be absolutely humming for Chris Waller. She resumes, having not raced since the Bill Ritchie when too bad to be true and was spelled soon after, so she clearly wasn’t right. Given a good extended break and gee her trial last week at Warwick Farm…it was a lovely piece of work. Keen.
1 Makarena (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a class mare for Team Hawkes that resumes. She is first up since the Golden Eagle when on speed and fought hard in the straight, being as game as ever when a close up fourth to Lake Forest. Recent trial win was quite good, she’ll press forward and take beating.
6 Our Gold Hope (Bet Now: $SP.00) should appreciate a rise to 1300m after racing over 1200m here three weeks ago in the Southern Cross where she found them too sharp but kept finding the line in a solid enough return behind Willaidow. Fitter and up in trip, she’s a knockout hope.
Race 6. (15:25) Silver Slipper Stakes 1100m
10 Bel Merci (Bet Now: $SP.00) is here to play for mine. John Thompson trained filly that has had a mixed bag re prep for the return. The trial here behind North England, she was raw and green, so the stable sent her to Kembla and she went like a rocket in winning. Maps to get the run of the race and she’ll have a break on Wodeton.
3 Wodeton (Bet Now: $SP.00) is ready to rock and roll…but the gate…ugh. His debut win here several weeks ago was spectacular and while he beat nothing, the arrogance of the win was something else, and there is nothing, overall, that is challenging him to being the best juvenile. Trial last week was sizzling…he is hard to beat, clearly. Just the gate worries me.
8 Gambler (Bet Now: $SP.00) looks a very good mover for Peter Snowden and keen to see how he resumes. He hasn’t raced since the early part of the Spring when contesting the Maribyrnong Trial where he was raw and new, not handling the straight course of Flemington. Given a good break and his trial work to get ready has been very good.
Race 7. (16:00) Parramatta Cup 1900m
This race looks very much within reach for 4 Francesco Guardi (Bet Now: $SP.00) if he’s ready to rock and roll. He doesn’t need to be fully wound up to make mince meat of these. You look at his form from the Spring…2.7L off Buckaroo, 4L from Via Sistina, 3L off Okita Soushi…that is A1 form vs some of these. His trials have been a tick for mine and given his class factor, he just looks a great each way gamble.
9 Manzoice (Bet Now: $SP.00) is getting towards D Day. He resumed behind Highlights a fortnight back over the mile at Randwick. He got dragged back from the wide gate and did make up headway without threatening. It was a pass mark given he is a 2000m+ horse, so fitter and up in trip here, he’s an improver.
10 Kinesiology (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a definite winning chance. He resumed at Randwick two weeks back behind Highlights. He paraded like he would need the run and that is how it panned out but he did make up ground and was pretty good in defeat I thought. Good second up record, he commands respect.
Race 8. (16:35) Hobartville Stakes 1400m
1 Broadsiding (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a class colt for James Cummings that resumes and with a class edge, I think he’s the one to beat. He hasn’t raced since the Champions Mile where he was a tired horse and ran accordingly when down the track behind Mr Brightside. He has been given a good break and his trial work has been very good. Keen on his prospects.
3 Linebacker (Bet Now: $SP.00) has the talent to be a really good horse…he just needs to harness his energy better. The gelding operation was supposed to do the trick in that regard but he got quite keen in front when resuming in the Eskimo Prince and just felt the pinch late when second to Public Attention. Fitter and up in trip, he’s good enough to threaten.
2 Mayfair (Bet Now: $SP.00) can run a much improved race here for GaiBott. He trialled up very well prior to resuming in the Eskimo Prince where he was ridden with a sit and it didn’t work as he got held up and failed to fire late. I think ridden with much more intent, he can bounce back.
Race 9. (17:15) Asahi Super Dry (Bm100) 1400m
6 Wategos (Bet Now: $SP.00) should love the rise to 1400m after resuming three weeks ago in the Southern Cross where he was ridden like a barrier trial and with the race shape, he was never really a factor behind Willaidow. Like him up in trip and he’ll be ridden with more intent here.
3 West Of Africa (Bet Now: $SP.00) is the one I have eyes on here in regards to the Doncaster. He hasn’t raced since the Magic Millions Cup when giving them a start and an absolute beating to win so damn impressively and for mine, he stamped himself as a Doncaster horse. Loved the way he moved in a trial last week, he’ll get back but launch late.
1 Coastwatch (Bet Now: $SP.00) is several weeks between runs since a dominant win in the John Dillon. He got into a decent spot on speed before being clicked up by Lane and away he went to win and win well, running good time as well. He’s flying and has to be respected against these.
Race 10. (17:55) Chandon (Bm94) 1100m
10 The Black Cloud (Bet Now: $SP.00) to bounce back for Joe Pride. Liked her when she resumed two weeks ago at Randwick and looked the winner when she hit the front but condition just ran out late and she had to settle for a second to Shezanalister. Fitter, likes the Rosehill 1100m, hard to beat.
5 Shezanalister (Bet Now: $SP.00) commands respect for Bjorn Baker. Market said she was ready to rock and roll when resuming at Randwick and under a peach from Collett, she finished best to win well and continue her fab fresh record. More depth here but hard to knock her.
3 Bacchanalia (Bet Now: $SP.00) has to be given another look. He trialled like a rocket prior to resuming at Randwick two weeks back where he was near the speed and just battled late in a plain finale behind Shezanalister. Fitter, off the trials…can’t ignore yet.
