Racing returns to the course proper at Morphettville this Saturday with eight races to be run and won. The weather is fine, the track is good (4) and the rail is out ten metres from the 1200m-Winning Post; Out seven metres for the remainder.

Race One (13:43) : Quayclean Plate 1050m:
Back Me: 6 Jolie Rose (Bet Now: $2.15) was a drifter in the market when racing over 1000m on the Parks track two weeks back but she defied that by showing really good early speed to lead and then gave a good kick but just was no answer to the regally bred and impressive winner Roomooz. No horse of that class here, she has the run under the belt and has the right racing pattern for two year old racing.
Big Danger: Race has fallen away in terms of winning chances, and the raced brigade doesn’t seem too strong, so a close eye has to be on the Hayes/Dabernig first starter 4 Maraahib, (Bet Now: $2.40) who has been okay to the eye at the Flemington jump outs without setting the world on fire. He doesn’t have to set the world on fire to beat these.
Long Shot: 2 Tropical Lightning (Bet Now: $7.00) resumes here after having just the one run in the Spring, which came on the Parks track where he was far from disgraced in running second to Time Awaits. Looked okay in a recent Gawler trial and this looks a pretty thin race in terms of depth, so he doesn’t have to improve much to go close.
Race Two (14:18) : Butterfields Farm Direct Handicap (70) 1050m:
Back Me: 6 Arizona Wildcat (Bet Now: $4.20) has had two runs this time in, both over this track/distance. She proved too nippy for them in a maiden fresh before being backed late last start where she was caught wide no cover for the trip yet stuck on really well when running third to French Rock. Just needs better luck here to turn the tables and bounce back into the winners list.
Big Danger: 3 French Rock (Bet Now: $4.40) was unwanted in betting when resuming over this track/distance three weeks ago but despite the market drift, gee he came with a well timed run to nab the heavily backed Bringaroo and Arizona Wildcat on the peg. Form from the Winter reads well and the fresh effort indicates he has come back in super order.
Long Shot: Punters got it spot on last Saturday with 5 Harlem Child (Bet Now: $11.00) on the Parks track, backing her in from around $18 to $7 and they rewarded with a last stride win, aided by the vigour of Matthew Poon who lifted the filly late. More depth here, but she has the win on the belt now and is on the seven day turnaround.
Race Three (14:53) : Schweppes Handicap (64) 1600m:
Back Me: 4 Saturday Affair (Bet Now: $2.50) was having her first run for the Will Clarken stable when racing over 1300m on the Parks track a fortnight back where she got back in the run and held up slightly in a slowly run but once Neilson shoved her into the clear, she lengthened hard late to just miss out on picking up Written Birch, who walked in front and rightfully kicked. Up to the mile second up suits and has enormous upside.
Big Danger: 1 Optimize (Bet Now: $2.15) should be ready to produce her best now third up from a spell. She sat on speed over 1550m on the Parks track a fortnight ago and looked to be going okay but when push came to shove, her condition just gave out to run third to Tenere. Drops big time in depth here, gets gate one and Poon steering.
Long Shot: 3 Cyclone Thomas (Bet Now: $10.00) ran over this track/distance on Boxing Day and his effort was okay without setting the world on fire behind Mullinger Lane where he got back and just stayed there without making much of an impression. Hard to trust, bu third up, so he should be ready fitness wise and he is quite capable on his day.
Race Four (15:28) : Projection Graphics Handicap (75) 1050m:
Back Me: 5 Alaskan Jade (Bet Now: $9.00) had been knocking on the door to win a race for some time but she finally got the win on the board last time out over 1100m here three weeks back when savaging the peg from off the speed to get the job done. Now that she has got that winning feeling again, she can certainly go on with it despite the rise in depth.
Big Danger: 4 Big Effort (Bet Now: $2.35) had confident market support when resuming over this track/distance and bolted up before going to the 1200m where he did a bit of work to sit on speed and that just found him out late when fourth to Strategic Demand. Back to 1050m looks ideal and being third up, he should be ready fitness wise.
Long Shot: 7 Lockdown Jack (Bet Now: $12.00) has the potential and ability to win this race but gee he has a horrible racing pattern of getting back and running on. That has been the case in both runs this time in where he has sat last in the run and has been asked to do too much work. Looks to be good speed here, so I think he will get his chance to run on.
Race Five (16:08) : UBET Handicap 1600m:
Back Me: 3 Finke (Bet Now: $2.10) is on the seven day turnaround for Phillip Stokes after racing over 1550m on the Parks track last Saturday where he was backed as if unbeatable late and the punters were rewarded with a dominant on speed win. Yet to race on the quick back up before, but he gives the impression he will handle it, he has upside and is suited up to the mile.
Big Danger: 6 Tenere (Bet Now: $4.00) is a stablemate of Finke who also comes here off the back of a 1550m win on the Parks track his win coming seven days prior to Finke where he sat off the speed before Neilson eased wider and the horse really let down strongly to get the job done. Only third up here, so he should plenty of upside left and rates highly.
Long Shot: 7 Deiheros (Bet Now: $21.00) was specked at longer odds when racing over 1400m on the Parks track two weeks ago where he had a nice sit just off the speed and though he lacked the winning turn of foot, he stuck to the task really gamely to run a close up fifth to Battle Brewing. Got an excellent record on the course proper and I think the mile will be ideal.
Race Six (16:48) : UBET Adelaide Cup March 13 Handicap (82) 2500m:
Back Me: 3 Majestic Moment (Bet Now: $4.20) for me in a race that I don’t have much confidence in. He is on the quick back up after racing in the Strathalbyn Cup on Sunday where he sat near the speed in a slowly run affair and sit/sprint just isn’t his go but he battled away okay when third to Ustinov’s Fury. Suited big time up to 2500m and looks the safe way to go here.
Big Danger: 1 Tunes (Bet Now: $3.50) ran second to Majestic Moment over this track/distance on Boxing Day before going to the Bagot at Flemington where he wasn’t too bad at all behind the very impressive Annus Mirabilis. This is his level and he has such a consistent record on the course proper. Big threat of bouncing back.
Long Shot: 7 Robocop (Bet Now: $8.00) was one of the roughest in betting when racing over 2250m on the Parks track a fortnight back but despite his price, I thought he ran quite well when fourth to the well performed Gallic Chieftian. Another that is suited up to the 2500m on the course proper and he can fill a place hole for sure.
Race Seven (17:28) : Holdfast Insurance Handicap (75) 1200m:
Back Me: 2 Strategic Demand (Bet Now: $2.30) is a gelding who is just low flying this time in for the Macdonald/Gluyas yard. He has won two from two this time, both coming at this track/distance, the latest of those coming three weeks back when beating Boggoms, who came out and bolted up a week later, so the form around him is very good and for mine, he ticks all the boxes.
Big Danger: 1 Tildy Lad (Bet Now: $8.00) is another that has won two from two. Started off with a comfortable effort at Bordertown before going to Gawler (Metro) where he sat outside the speed and despite a brief challenge halfway down the straight, he drew clear late. Tends to race best on the fresh side and should take some beating here.
Long Shot: 8 Lexgetreddy (Bet Now: $7.00) is on the back up after racing last Saturday on the Parks track where she did a bit of work to sit on speed and fought on strongly but was just no match for the brilliant performance of Beautiful Flyer. Record not quite as flash on the course proper, but she wasn’t far off Strategic Demand recently and that is the right form line.
Race Eight (18:08) : MAC: STOP DRUG DRIVING Handicap (64) 1100m:
Back Me: 10 Go Arrivederci (Bet Now: $5.50) is a former Kris Lees galloper that is now with Tony McEvoy and looks a massive watch against this lot. Performed okay in NSW without really firing but she looks set to do some nice things under the care of McEvoy based on a recent trial win over multiple Stakes winner Riziz and did it comfortably. Keen to see what she does here.
Big Danger: 3 The Castle Kat (Bet Now: $10.00) was a strong winner over 1200m at Murray Bridge before going back to 900m there last Wednersday where she looked run off her legs when finishing midfield. Suited back up to 1100m here I think and has performed well in town earlier on in the preparation. Definite chance of bouncing back.
Long Shot: 12 Really Edgy (Bet Now: $26.00) was unwanted in betting when racing over 900m at Murray Bridge last Wednesday but he defied the market place and ran on well late in the piece to run sixth to Snip Of Magic. Suited up to 1100m here and if they go hard in front, he could be one to ambush late at odds.
