Albury Cup 🏆: View the Field and Odds for the Albury Cup
Race 1. (12:50) Adrian Ledger Memorial Showcase (Bm66) 2400m
4 No Rumours (Bet Now: $2.45) has found winning form and he can certainly go on with it. That win came in a maiden over 2000m at Ballarat where he gave them a start and a beating to win and win well. He’ll eat up 2400m and has the Paul Preusker polish. The one to beat.
3 Burgundy Girl (Bet Now: $2.60) will welcome the drop back to 66 grade after contesting the Canberra Cup where she got back to near last and although she made up ground, she was never a factor. Back to this level, she rates highly for mine.
1 Ashau Valley (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a slight query at 2400m but maps to get an economical run in transit to offset that query. He ran over 2000m at Wangaratta last time out where he got the right in transit and tried hard but just couldn’t quite get there. His best is good enough to be a threat.
Race 2. (13:30) Dlg Aluminium & Glazing Super Showcase Mdn Plate 1175m
5 Monte Veebee (Bet Now: $SP.00) should be making a mess of these, all things being equal. He returns to racing as a gelding and when he last raced, he was city class for mine and at his absolute best, he can be Stakes class. Trial work has been super, I think good luck beating him.
11 Dubai Darling (Bet Now: $4.00) has a tricky draw to overcome but think she has talent. She debuted over 1200m at Newcastle when off speed but kept chasing and was good in defeat when third. If the wide gate can be overcome, she’s good enough to be a threat.
8 Antidote (Bet Now: $14.00) has done little wrong in two career outings and has to be respected as a first four threat. Latest run came over 940m at Towong where she seemed to have her chance but was weak late. Maps ideally and is a must for exotics.
Race 3. (14:10) Carlton Draught Showcase (Bm58) 1175m
1 Persian Dancer (Bet Now: $19.00) is worth a throw at the stumps. Gary Colvin trained mare that likely has eyes on the Wagga Carnival but she is a mare who can sprint well fresh, she likes Albury and her recent trial was quite good.
2 Daze Off (Bet Now: $3.90) is one of the key threats off the back of a first up run over 1200m at Wagga when off speed and kept finding the line in defeat. Fast run 1175m, can see her sitting off speed and launch late.
4 Yam (Bet Now: $6.00) is a Craig Weeding trained gelding that resumes. He is first up, having not raced since Nov 1 at Kilmore when far from disgraced in defeat. Looks to have trialled well and has a kind map in his corner. Knockout hope.
Race 4. (14:45) Flat Knacker 900m
4 Extravagent Lad (Bet Now: $6.00) is the straight bat play. He last ran in a Highway on Boxing Day at Randwick when on speed and tried hard but just couldn’t quite see it through, nabbed by Audette. Fast run 900m, he lands in a plum spot and takes beating.
2 Big Me (Bet Now: $3.20) is one of the key threats off the back of a win over 1000m on Echuca Cup Day where he looked a good thing on paper and duly saluted. Interesting set up here but he looks the most talented horse lining up.
7 Dupride Star (Bet Now: $27.00) comes back to 900m after a win over 1200m at Wagga where she gave them a start and a beating to win and win well. Back in trip I find interesting but she should be strong late and can win.
Race 5. (15:20) Allure Lash & Beauty Showcase Hcp (C2) 1000m
I am pretty keen on 6 Reasonable Point (Bet Now: $6.50) and am surprised that she is not favourite. She has done her recent racing at Melbourne metro snd for the most part has been far from disgraced. She will love getting back to this company, be strong late, quite keen on her.
4 Brial Rose (Bet Now: $2.25) is a key threat for mine off the back of a first up second at this track/distance when on speed and she fought hard but just couldn’t quite get there behind Speedy One. That form looks to read well for this.
14 Divazou (Bet Now: $18.00) is a knockout hope at odds. He did more than enough when resuming here first up here before going to Wangaratta when just off the speed snd failed to come on in a plain performance. Third up, hard fit, more patient steer, he can bounce back.
Race 6. (16:00) Lexus Of Wodonga Country Magic Hcp (C3) 1500m
6 Wal’s Angels (Bet Now: $4.20) deserves another chance for mine. He looked well suited on paper last start at Goulburn but that track was being quite shifty and funny, and he just never really looked comfortable. Hopefully on a fairer surface this time, he can be an improver and take this out.
4 Good Prize (Bet Now: $SP.00) is racing really well at present and should be around the mark, as seen at Moruya last start when trying his guts out but just found one better in Hello Jack. 1500m is fine and has versatility re racing style.
3 Chop The Ice (Bet Now: $SP.00) comes through the same race that Wals Angels contested at a Goulburn, won by Hooligan Tommy. He got back on the fence and the inside was poison so forgive and forget. Prior efforts were sound so don’t dismiss him.
Race 7. (16:40) Albury Gold Cup 2000m
10 Kings Valley (Bet Now: $3.20) seems the obvious. Been up a while but seems to be getting better as the prep goes on, the latest performance being a win over 2000m at Randwick where he got better as the race went on and was dominant late, beating Birdman, high up in betting for the Sydney Cup, so that form reads well. Just needs to overcome the sticky draw.
9 Medatsu (Bet Now: $7.00) is the key threat. He ran fourth to Kings Valley in the race mentioned above, getting a fair way out of his ground but I really liked the way he closed off late in the piece. If he’s within range, he has the finale to be dangerous.
4 Touristic (Bet Now: $12.00) is capable with his best. He ran midfield in the Canberra Cup where he was ridden with intent to land outside the speed and tried hard, but just felt the pinch late in the piece. I think with a bunny to chase, more patient steer, he can win.
Race 8. (17:20) Albury Guineas (Bm74) 1400m
8 Dupli Kate (Bet Now: $13.00) is the map horse and for mine, is an each way play. She ran over 1300m at Canberra last time out where she got off speed and was held up at times but got clear and found the line strongly in defeat behind Win The Day. Maps to land in a plum spot behind the speed and be hard to hold out late.
1 Conchiero (Bet Now: $2.20) comes here with fresh legs for GaiBott, having not raced since Feb 19 when a strong winner at Warwick Farm when on speed and credit to him, he was there to be beaten but he found under pressure to score. I reckon he might have eyes on the Hawkesbury/Wagga Guineas path maybe, and his tick over trial was quite good. One of the leading contenders.
3 My Last Hooray (Bet Now: $18.00) should appreciate a rise to 1400m. He resumed over 1000m in the Highway at Randwick where he got too far back in the run and although he was never a threat, he did make up ground and was pretty good late in the piece. Like him up in trip, strong late, knockout hope.
