Nine races will be run and won at Eagle Farm this Saturday. The weather forecast is for showers, the track is soft (5) and the rail is out 2.5 metres for the entire circuit.
Race 1. (13:18) Stradbroke Season On Sale-bm80 1200m
2 Chico Milagro (Bet Now: $2.20) looks to be in for a good prep for Tony Gollan. Resumed over 1050m at Doomben a few weeks ago where he bombed the start, forcing him to sit last in the run and come widest on the turn. His finale was outstanding behind Leadership Spill in one of the runs of the day. Clean jump and he wins.
6 Wonderful Riri (Bet Now: $4.50) is an interesting runner. Former Victorian that had start one for the O’Dea/Hoysted camp at Doomben when a notable drifter late in betting but nobody told the mare that as she came with a well timed run out wide to win impressively. Off that, think she has to be respected against these.
5 Lubuk (Bet Now: $18.00) is a very interesting runner. Former Chris Waller galloper that now finds himself with Cody Morgan. He’s not a noted fresh performer, but new stable, new environment, new methods, that could be thrown out the window. Liked his recent trial and does have a liking for racing here.
Race 2. (13:57) Tab Venue Mode Hcp 2206m
5 Point Counterpoint (Bet Now: $5.50) is a leading chance here. Stirling Osland looks to have found a very winnable race for his charge here. To the eye, it looked like he won at Newcastle last time out, but the photo went the way of the outside horse. Hard fit, in form and has been racing well against older horses, which should hold him in good stead.
1 The Cullinan (Bet Now: $2.90) has to be rated as one of the hardest to beat. He had caught the eye in recent runs, which ensured he was well specked when racing two weeks ago over 1800m here and under a lovely ride from Leah Kilner, he finished best and was too good. 2200m should be no issue and is hard to beat.
7 Lady Snitch (Bet Now: $7.00) looks to be heading in the right direction for Kacy Fogden. She was big odds over 1800m here a fortnight ago but despite the SP, she closed off well from off the speed when third to The Cullinan. Upside to come, the 2200m looks to be okay and has more scope than most.
Race 3. (14:37) Followmont Transport Hcp 1600m
1600m looks ideal for 5 Back When (Bet Now: $3.30). Garnett Taylor trained three year old that ran over 1400m here a fortnight back when heavily backed late. He got back to near last in the run and was never a winning threat, but liked the way he finished his race off behind Georgie’s Pride. Hard to beat up in trip, especially if he can sit closer in the run.
2 Cosmic Gossip (Bet Now: $6.50) is suited back to the mile. She ran over 1800m here two weeks ago and although she had been racing as if it would suit, she didn’t quite run it out strongly enough. In saying that, they did walk in front, so a bit inconclusive, but she is proven at the mile and prior efforts were strong.
7 Beg Me (Bet Now: $31.00) can be another improver up in trip. He resumed in the Georgie’s Pride race from a fortnight ago over 1400m here. He was unwanted in betting, paraded like he would need the run and that is how it panned out. He’s better than that and form from last prep around See Marie reads well for this.
Race 4. (15:17) Ciroc Vodka Hcp 1400m
If the seven day back up doesn’t hurt 4 King Gutho (Bet Now: $3.10), then clearly he is the one to beat. He ran in the 2YO Jewel last Saturday at the Gold Coast and was very good in defeat from off the speed when a close up third to Sweet Dolly, which is just about the premier 2YO Queensland form. Confident about his chances.
6 Seefeld (Bet Now: $6.50) should love the rise to 1400m. Debuted over 1200m here last Wednesday where he was back from the gate, back to near last in the run, and worked home strongly late when third. Can sit closer in the run from the inside draw and with a rise in trip, he’ll take some beating.
1 Kenny Boy (Bet Now: $6.00) deserves respect. He has had a few weeks off since debuting with a win over 1300m here. What I liked about the win was the way he knuckled down. He wasn’t going to get there but Jimmy Orman really lifted him when it counted to win and win well. Harder here, but has talent.
Race 5. (16:00) Silk Laser Clinics Hcp 1200m
1 Invincible Al (Bet Now: $5.00) can mix his form but Tony Gollan has him going super overall. He gets back off the speed and tries hard, and when he gets conditions to suit, he can be quite effective, which was the case when winning several weeks back here, driving through hard late to nab them. He’ll be charging at the end.
2 Royal Witness (Bet Now: $4.40) hasn’t done a bad job since joining the Edmonds team. Comes through the Invincible Al race from four weeks ago here. He was near the speed throughout and battled away pretty well in defeat behind the Gollan runner. The depth here as a whole isn’t strong…just needs to tick the 1200m box.
6 Jay Jay D’Ar (Bet Now: $5.50) is hard to follow and trust at times but her best is more than good enough, which was the case when winning three weeks ago at the Sunny Coast. Patient steer by Dittman and she charged home late to win and win well. If she can hold that here, she’ll be hard to hold out once again.
Race 6. (16:42) Gordon's Premium Pink Gin-bm80 2206m
5 Joymaker (Bet Now: $2.05) has had a couple of runs at 1800m now and I think is looking for more ground so I like the rise to 2200m for this girl. Latest run came two weeks ago over 1800m here when back off the speed and chasing strongly late when second to Dinado. Holding her form quite well and strikes a winnable race.
1 Master Shuhood (Bet Now: $13.00) gets to a more suitable distance range and does have upside. He comes through the Dinado race as well where he was back off the speed and didn’t really fire a shot in a disappointing effort I thought. But, his third up efforts in Australia have been strong and good enough to run well here.
3 Stardome (Bet Now: $6.50) looks suited up in trip for Chris Waller. Ran over 1800m here two weeks ago where he was back off the speed and in a slowly run race, he just didn’t have the change up speed to go with them, but was a pass mark I thought behind Dinado. Up in trip, upside, knockout chance.
Race 7. (17:18) Sky Racing (bm70) 1300m
9 Jakama (Bet Now: $2.90) has always promised to be a city class horse and given how well he is racing at the moment, he has to command some level of respect. Last two starts have resulted in dominant wins at Ipswich over 1200m and 1350m respectively, each time drawing clear late from off the speed. Keen to see how he goes.
11 Alpendurada (Bet Now: $4.80) is a son of Rothesay for Rob Heathcoate that comes into this off the back of a pretty strong victory over 1400m here. Got into a lovely spot under Michael Rodd and once he found clear air, it was race over and he was dominant. Depth here isn’t strong, so think he’s hard to beat.
14 Main De Foi (Bet Now: $16.00) is a Natalie McCall trained mare that resumes. This girl hasn’t raced since November 21 at the Sunny Coast when at the end of her prep and looking for the paddock when down the track behind Star Of Michelin. Trial was good, can sprint well fresh and Ben Thompson is just about the form rider in Brisbane at the moment.
Race 8. (17:55) Pimm's Plate (class 6) 1400m
9 Weekend Affair (Bet Now: $34.00) is a tricky one for Jason Coyle, but $30+ seems crazy odds for this guy in what looks an open race. He ran over 1550m at Canterbury last time and I thought closed off pretty well late in the piece behind Foxborough. Fresh legs back to 1400m, sits off a good speed and will be strong late.
8 Ventura Ocean (Bet Now: $2.20) is four weeks between runs for Cody Morgan since resuming with a strong win over 1200m. He was there to be run down by stablemate Wren’s Day but found plenty under pressure and got the win. Wren’s Day bolted up a fortnight later to frank the form, which reads well for this. Is he short enough though at $3?
14 Lunar Light (Bet Now: $9.50) is hard to follow and trust at times but her best is more than good enough, which was the case when winning three weeks ago at the Sunny Coast. Patient steer by Dittman and she charged home late to win and win well. If she can hold that here, she’ll be hard to hold out once again.
Race 9. (18:35) Qld Guineas Day 1 May (c3) 1600m
3 Slow Hands (Bet Now: $8.00) is sneaky going well for Kelly Schweida I feel. Race shape was against fresh behind Express Princess before going to the Sunny Coast and he was a real eye catcher late in the piece behind Jay Jay D’Ar. Third up at the mile, he looks well placed to break a decent run of outs.
11 Word For Word (Bet Now: $2.45) should prove hard to beat here for Chris Waller. Heavily backed three weeks ago at the Sunny Coast in a similar race. Just gave away too much head start to eventual winner Wolf Moon but did close off strongly at the end. Has the runs on the board from Sydney and should be strong at the end.
This is the first time that 2 Kubrick (Bet Now: $8.50) steps out to the mile since relocating to Queensland so with that in mind, I’m quite keen on his chances. First two runs for the prep have come over 1400m and for mine, he just hasn’t been sharp enough to produce the necessary late speed to go with them. Better suited at this level at this trip, and we know he has class.
