Race 1. (12:30) Ned Australian Whisky Hcp 1100m
1 Customized (Bet Now: $3.20) commands respect for Team Snowden. He debuted in the BJ McLachlan several weeks back at Eagle Farm and he was good in defeat from off the speed when third to a very nice juvenile, Storm Boy. Better for the run under the belt, can settle closer in the run, right form…hard to beat.
2 King Of Roseau (Bet Now: $4.50) is a leading contender. Stablemate of Customized that debuted at Canberra where he did a bit wrong and despite that, he managed to maintain momentum and prove strong to the line in winning. He should be better for that run and in a good camp for juveniles, he’ll be around the mark.
3 Sacred Fort (Bet Now: $11.00) has had three career outings so start four here, he should know what the racing caper is about by now. He ran at Randwick a few weeks ago where he got just off the speed and presented to win but couldn’t quite finish it off behind Parkour, beaten 1.3L in a solid effort. The depth here isn’t as deep, he’s hard fit, racing well…hard to beat.
Race 2. (13:05) Tab Highway (C3) 1400m
8 Lensman (Bet Now: $20.00)…could be put his hand up for the Country Championships Qualifier at Tuncurry next month with a win here? First run for Wayne Wilkes came at Taree over 1250m where he gave them a start and a beating, letting down with a very strong finale to win and win well. That was his first run in around a year so provided there is no second up syndrome, he only runs well.
6 Associate (Bet Now: $3.50) commands respect for Danielle Seib. This guy has been kept on ice, having not raced since his resumption at Randwick in a Highway on Dec 9 when back off the speed and seemingly had his chance but was far from disgraced behind Golden Decade. Tick over trial was good, he’ll be strong late…key chance.
3 Bon Frankie (Bet Now: $6.00) is a model of consistency for Aaron Clarke and I think can run well in a Highway. He resumed on a wet track at Moruya and kept finding the line strongly from off the speed when a narrow second to Rouge Lane. Firmer footing, maps to do no work in the run and be strong at the end. Leading chance.
Race 3. (13:40) Midway (Bm72) 1200m
I am keen on 13 Field Wiri (Bet Now: $12.00) running well. Team Freedman mare that resumed on Gosford Guineas Day where she was heavily backed but got dragged back from the wide gate and was never a factor, especially when the leader is running 33.7 for its last 600m, so the fact Field Wiri made up ground was very good. Love her up in trip and she is a proven Saturday metro performer so she is well suited at Midway level.
3 Xpresso (Bet Now: $5.50) is knocking on the door to win a Midway for Nathan Doyle. He ran two weeks ago in the Midway at Randwick where he got back off the speed but tracked up with purpose before peeling into clear air and let down hard but couldn’t quite get there when a narrow second to Delexo. 1200m is a query but off last run, I think he’ll be okay. Leading contender.
4 Dimaggio (Bet Now: $23.00) is a Kim Waugh trained gelding that resumes. This guy is first up, having not raced since Sep 13 when a game fourth over 1550m at Canterbury. He has run well at Midway level previously and with two solid trials under the belt, the grounding is there, so I’d watch the market and see what it does.
Race 4. (14:15) Rosehill Bowling Club (Bm88) 1200m
4 Time To Boogie (Bet Now: $1.30) for me. Michael Freedman trained gelding that has been strong in two runs back from a spell, both at Randwick. Resumed with a dominant all the way win over 1000m before going to 1200m two weeks ago where he was a short priced favourite and was there to win the race but couldn’t quite get there when a narrow third to Kinloch. Good racing style, hard fit and out of trouble on speed, he’ll take running down.
8 Stromboli (Bet Now: $6.00) is finding it hard to win but has been around the mark of late. He took forever to get past Time To Boogie at Randwick last time and once he did, he looked home, but he was nabbed right on the peg by a good horse in Kinloch. He has home track advantage and is nearing a win. Can come here…but finding it hard to trust him with 100% confidence.
2 Meritable (Bet Now: $14.00) has to be given another look. This guy had his first run for Mick Minervini in the Starlight over 1100m here and ran out of his skin in defeat behind Dragonstone before going to Randwick where he bombed the start and that sealed his fate in defeat behind Noble Soldier. Not sure he wins, but off the first up effort, he’s a must for exotics.
Race 5. (14:50) Toyota Forklifts (Bm72) 1100m
2 Epic Proportions (Bet Now: $6.50) on top in what I feel is a two horse race. Maher/Eustace trained three year old that resumed five weeks ago at The Valley where he was near the speed throughout and tried his guts out but couldn’t quite get there when second to impressive winner Scuderia. Better for the run, he maps to stalk and get last look.
If you believe the hype, 1 Caballus (Bet Now: $2.45) is the second coming of Phar Lap. Now with Bjorn Baker after being with Chris Waller and off the trials, it is easy to see why he is popular because each trial was dazzling. He has to do it on race day though and when with Waller, for the most part, he didn’t do it on race day. If he’s going to be an Autumn Carnival contender, he has to be winning this.
5 Soldier And Rome (Bet Now: $4.60) is the key threat. He is a son of Snitzel for GaiBott that resumes after a debut win on the Kenso back in March and credit to him, he was there to be run down but he found under pressure to fend them off and win. Trial work to get ready has been strong, he leads and is hard to get past.
Race 6. (15:25) Petaluma (Bm78) 2400m
2 First Light (Bet Now: $4.80) has really turned the corner in recent times. He has won his past two, winning at Warwick Farm two back before going to Randwick where he tanked into the straight under Tommy and he made an absolute mess of them…them wasn’t anything special, but that can be said about this lot too. Leading contender.
5 Lyrical Gangster (Bet Now: $5.00) seems a very one paced type so the rise to 2400m should be ideal for this Chris Waller, who comes here off a win over 2000m at Randwick two weeks ago where she got the splits between runners and toughed it out best over 2000m to win and win well. The way she keeps on finding the line, 2400m should be ideal and off a win, she’s hard to beat.
7 California Grass (Bet Now: $5.00) is a John Thompson trained mare that comes to town again after placing at midweek level two back before going back to Wyong for a kill and despite a few nervous moments, she indeed got the kill and won well. Promising mare, heading in the right direction…think she can measure up.
Race 7. (16:00) Chandon (Bm88) 1400m
4 Robusto (Bet Now: $4.80) has been up a little while but is holding his form well. He ran in the Excelladus race from a fortnight back at Randwick where he got into a lovely spot behind the fast speed but just couldn’t sustain the run but he was far from disgraced in defeat when fourth. With home track advantage, he commands respect.
5 Danaustar (Bet Now: $4.80) will jump on the bunny and prove hard to get past. Strong on speed winner on Gong Day at Kembla before racing at Randwick a few weeks back where he was on speed throughout and he gave a strong kick but couldn’t quite see it through, run down late by Robusto. Better for the run, good racing style, he’s hard to run down.
2 Excelladus (Bet Now: $4.40) has found winning form and he can certainly go on with it for Joe Pride. He won at Randwick two weeks ago and yes, he was helped by the crazy hot tempo, but he still had to take advantage of it and that he did, finishing best from the back to win well. He’s now got that winning feeling again and he strikes a thin enough race to win again.
Race 8. (16:40) Bisley Workwear (Bm78) 1500m
4 Step Aside (Bet Now: $2.60) looks ready for a rise in trip. Chris Waller trained gelding that has run over 1400m his past two with a three week gap in between. That is what cost him three weeks ago at Randwick, just not suited by the race shape and staying at 1400m when narrowly beaten by Luvoir. Home track and up to 1500m, I think he’s a great bet.
8 Anythink Goes (Bet Now: $4.00) is knocking on the door to win for Matty Smith. He ran two weeks ago at Randwick where he kept chasing from just off the speed but couldn’t quite get the win when a narrow second to handy mare Running By. I am tipping that form to hold up quite well and this isn’t a deep race to my eye. Like him.
1 Special Envoy (Bet Now: $13.00) is a GaiBott trained stayer that resumes. He had a three run Winter prep to start life down under and I think you’d have to mark him down as quite disappointing, but as we know with imports, they generally get better in their second prep. Strong trial win at Canterbury under the belt, I’d watch the market.
Race 9. (17:20) Tab (Bm78) 1100m
6 Our Kobison (Bet Now: $1.60) is a leading contender for Angela Davies. This guy resumed at Randwick two weeks ago where he was wide no cover for the speed and he was entitled to knock up, which he did very late, but he kept finding in a pretty good effort and return behind quality mare Tintookie. Hopefully with a better run in transit, he’ll take holding out.
3 Tintookie (Bet Now: $5.00) is a good mare for Brad Widdup and rates as one of the hardest to beat. This girl was given a peach steer a fortnight back at Randwick, getting the sweet sit behind the speed before angling clear and finished best to wear down a gallant Our Kobison. Has run well at Rosehill previously and with good upside to come, off a win, she appeals.
13 Rebel Dean (Bet Now: $35.00) is one of the leading contenders for Team Price. This four year old has had two runs back, both over 1000m at Kembla. Latest was there on Gong Day when near the speed and tried his guts out but was clearly no match late for impressive winner Mabel. He has been accepted/scratched several times so not sure what is going on but he has the talent to measure up.
Race 10. (17:55) James Squire (Bm78) 1500m
4 Centrestone (Bet Now: $3.30) has come back in really good order for Chris Waller. This mare resumed with a bang when winning over 1200m at Eagle Farm before going to 1350m at Doomben three weeks ago where she got back in the run and made up good ground late in the piece behind impressive winner and talented mare Midnight In Tokyo. Hard fit now and up to 1500m, she’s hard to beat.
10 Bootscooter (Bet Now: $9.50) looks to be in for a good prep for Rod Northam. This mare resumed over 1300m two weeks ago at Randwick where she got back off the speed and was a bit flat footed when the sprint went on but she ran through the pain barrier and kept finding the line in a good return behind Terra Mater. Fitter and up to 1500m, enormous upside, she appeals.
3 Principessa (Bet Now: $5.00) is third up from a spell and should just about be at peak fitness. Joe Pride trained mare that comes through the Terra Mater race from two weeks back at Randwick where she was solid in defeat but just lacked any real change up speed so that’s why I do think 1300m to 1500m suits and her best is clearly good enough.
