Race 1. (11:45) Corvette For Cancer (Bm74) 2200m
2 Steel Run (Bet Now:Β $11.00) comes through the Roy Higgins when far from disgraced in defeat. He got back to near last in the run and was solid late but was never really threatening behind Whisky On The Hill. If that hasn’t busted him, back to this level, he takes beating.
7 House Of Lords (Bet Now:Β $5.00) is on the seven day back up after racing last Saturday over 1800m at Flemington where she got a mile back and while she was never threatening, her finale was more than sound. Like the rise in trip and this isn’t a deep contest.
1 My Brothers Keeper (Bet Now:Β $19.00) is a hard horse to catch but is capable. He ran over 2000m at Caulfield three weeks back, getting a fair way out of his ground but his finale was more than sound in defeat. If within range, he has the finale to threaten.
Race 2. (12:15) Vobis Gold Rush 1100m
12 Sashiko (Bet Now:Β $34.00) on top. Team Hayes trained filly that debuts off the back of a couple of jumpouts where she has placed each time and seemingly moved well I thought. Has an inside gate to settle forward and stable is having a good season with their juveniles.
2 The Speed Machine (Bet Now:Β $1.90) is 2/2 to start his career, the latest win being the Mornington Sires when producing sustained speed and found plenty under pressure to score. Good racing style and will look the winner for a long way.
1 Knurl (Bet Now:Β $12.00) didn’t do a bad job when resuming with a third in The Showdown before going to the Mornington Sires when near the speed and tried hard but just whacked late. Not sure he can win but can run first four.
Race 3. (12:45) Evergreen Turf (Bm70) 1300m
13 Rosa Aotearoa (Bet Now:Β $4.00) has been given a mini freshen up since a win at Sale when leading throughout and he gave nothing else a look in to win and win well. Tick over trial last week was strong, good racing style, he’s a clear contender.
4 One Long Day (Bet Now:Β $9.00) looks here to play. Melody Cunningham trained gelding that resumes, his last run coming on Feb 22 when down the track at Caulfield behind a nice horse, Oliveanotherday. Jumpout work has been sharp and Blinkers on for the return, the intent is there.
1 Fearless Freddy (Bet Now:Β $31.00) is one of the more fascinating runners on the card. Former UK galloper that makes his Aussie debut for Busuttin/Young, his last run seeing him win at York on Oct 12 2024. Two jumpouts this time in for the return, he’s a definite yard/market watch because he must be showing something at home to keep persisting.
Race 4. (13:20) Carlton Draught (Bm74) 1600m
5 Zain Blue (Bet Now:Β $5.50) should be better for the first up run over this trip at Caulfield when leading and giving a decent sight on speed but just felt the pinch late behind Oceana Blue. Perhaps with a more patient steer, a bunny to chase, he can be more effective.
6 Seafall (Bet Now:Β $7.50) has found winning form and she can go on with it. That win came over the mile at Mornington when giving them a start and a beating in an impressive effort. Hit and miss but off last run, she’s right in the mix.
12 Gates (Bet Now:Β $26.00) is third up from a spell and should be at peak fitness. Latest run was over 1400m at Sandown where he was back near last and did make up ground but was never really threatening. Like him up to the mile. Just needs luck from the draw.
Race 5. (13:55) Bendigo Gold Bracelet 1400m
2 Merrigold (Bet Now:Β $3.50) is hard to beat here for John Sadler. She ran last Saturday at this track/distance when back off speed and kept chasing with purpose in a pretty good effort in defeat behind Big Swinger. Racing really well at present and takes beating here.
1 Oh Too Good (Bet Now:Β $5.50) is several weeks between runs since racing in the Victoria Handicap when four wide the trip and the hard run told late. Better run in transit this time around, her best is good enough to win.
6 Lady Jones (Bet Now:Β $4.60) steps up to 1400m after resuming over 1200m at Caulfield. She just found them a bit sharp but kept chasing in a pretty good effort in defeat when fourth to Soft Love. Fitter and up in trip, she’s a knockout hope.
Race 6. (14:30) Fitzsimmons Racing (Bm84) 1300m
11 King Tut (Bet Now:Β $6.50) is progressive and heading in the right direction for Ciaron Maher. Impressive winner three weeks ago at Caulfield, getting better as the race went on over the 1200m to score. Good test here, but confident he can measure up.
10 Duchess Zou (Bet Now:Β $2.70) is nearing contender or pretender time for mine. Ran two weeks ago at Mornington and thought she had every chance but couldn’t quite get there when second to Celsius Star. I do think the extra 100m suits and maps well…but it is just about last chance territory for her fans.
4 Masoun (Bet Now:Β $101.00) is an interesting runner. Former Irish galloper with Joseph O’Brien that is now with Chris Waller. 2000m+ is when he’ll come into his own but has jumped out alright to my eye, so watch betting.
Race 7. (15:05) Turners Crossing Hcp 1100m
I think you can easily make a case that 12 Street Artist (Bet Now:Β $4.80) should have won when resuming at Mornington. He was off speed, then when making his run, got whipped on the nose, stopping his momentum and charge to the line when a close up fourth. Hopefully ridden on speed this time around, he’ll take running down.
15 Yes Yoshi (Bet Now:Β $3.50) is unbeaten in two starts and commands respect. Latest win was Feb 9 at Caulfield Heath when giving them a start and a beating. Jumped out well since, good test, but think he can measure up.
8 Catwalk Icon (Bet Now:Β $23.00) is 2/2 this time in for Team McEvoy. Latest win was at Cranbourne when leading throughout and had enough in hand to score. Good racing style, he’ll give cheek at a price.
Race 8. (15:40) Bendigo Guineas 1400m
7 Gold Coast Belle (Bet Now:Β $2.70) looks a rocket for Danny O’Brien. Beat nothing at Caulfield three weeks ago but the manner in which she put them away, she was just so dynamic. The rise to the mile should be fine, lands near the speed and will take a power of beating.
3 Bacash (Bet Now:Β $6.50) steps up to 1400m after racing over 1200m three weeks ago at Caulfield when off speed and tried hard but did have his chance when third to impressive winner Oliveanotherday. Hard fit, up to a more suitable trip, he appeals.
2 Prestige Forever (Bet Now:Β $35.00) has been given three weeks break since resuming at Caulfield when down the track behind Oliveanotherday, getting off speed and failing to come on. Had jumped out well prior so he can run an improved race up in trip.
Race 9. (16:20) Golden Mile 1600m
11 Wonder Boy (Bet Now:Β $4.60) has found confidence and he can go on with it. That win came two weeks back at Mornington where he was ridden like a good thing and duly saluted in dominant fashion. He’s flying this horse and commands respect.
1 Osipenko (Bet Now:Β $20.00) is flying for Chris Waller and should take beating after a first up placing in the Victoria Handicap when off speed and worked home strongly late in the piece behind Hughes. Fitter and up in trip, he only runs well.
13 Chief Little Rock (Bet Now:Β $67.00) was too bad to be true when resuming in the City Of Adelaide at Morphettville. He landed on speed and tried hard but just couldn’t quite see it through and dropped out rather badly. Had jumped out well super prior so I am not dismissing.
Race 10. (16:55) Bendigo Advertiser (Bm84) 1100m
10 Balastier (Bet Now:Β $4.60) has been given a mini freshen up since a first up win at Sandown over 1000m. Credit to him, he was there to be beaten but he found under pressure to salute. Tick over jumpout was sharp and he does seem effective at the short course. Hard to beat.
12 You’re Two Vain (Bet Now:Β $3.00) ran third to Balastier at Sandown over 1000m when resuming and was a clear eye catcher, rocketing to the line in a good effort in defeat. If he can settle closer in the run, he’ll take holding out.
3 Nervous Witness (Bet Now:Β $71.00) is a squib but 1100m at Bendigo, if the track is playing up/in, a squib could get away with a race like this. Last run was March 28 when finding a bog at Flemington and couldn’t pick his feet up. Lands in front and only runs well.
