2/12/2022 Horse Racing Tips and Best Bets – Randwick

Randwick – Kensington will play host to a seven race twilight card on Friday. The weather is fine, the track is good (4) and the rail is out three metres for the entire circuit.

Looks a race in two to start the meeting but I am surprised that 2 Strait Acer (Bet Now:  $SP.00) isn’t favourite. Big odds when debuting at Hawkesbury but you really had to like the way he rocketed to the line, just missing out on picking up what I think could be a Stakes class three year old in Legio Ten. If he’s within range on the turn, I think he’ll be too good.

1 Oriental Tycoon (Bet Now:  $SP.00) hasn’t done much wrong in a four start career for Team Snowden but is just struggling to put a win on the board. I was keen on him at the Rosehill midweeks last time but just couldn’t quite finish the race off when second to High Blue Sea. Gets Blinkers first time and J Mac sticks so this is D-Day.

10 Sizzler (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is three weeks between runs for Craig Carmody since racing at Canterbury where he didn’t get much luck in the straight when having something to offer, getting badly held up so forget he went around behind Sorgente. Gets right down in the weights after the claim and with clear air, he can run top four.

3 Marelle (Bet Now:  $SP.00) looks a good filly for Chris Waller and although 1300m is on the short side for her, I think she has a bit on them re quality. She debuted at this trck/distance back in August where she worked to the line with real purpose late behind the Stakes performed Matcha Latte. Loved the way she went in a recent trial and just think she’s better than these.

1 Magic Carpet (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a well bred daughter of Lonhro that resumes for James Cummings. Her lone run last prep came at Canterbury when a solid fourth to Buenos Noches, who boasts Giga Kick form and ran a blinder in the Coolmore, so that clearly reads well for this. Just unsure about resuming at 1300m, whether it’s a bridge too far fresh.

5 Zip On By (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a coming maiden winner. Don’t think it’s coming here, but she should be around the mark. Debuted three weeks back at Canterbury and I thought was pretty good in defeat on a track not really to her liking it seemed behind Royal Merchant. Like her up to 1300m and should be strong at the end.

3 Comrade Rossa (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is short enough but I think she’ll be winning. Backed with confidence last start at the Rosehill midweeks and looked all over a winner when J Mac pushed the button but was nabbed late by Kouklara. She does find it hard to win, but looks to be in a thin race, J Mac sticks…she’s the one.

2 Grace’s Secret (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a very interesting runner. Chris Waller trained filly that resumes, having not raced since the Spring where she didn’t come up in a couple of early legs of the Princess Series. Starting off fresh with her again, her trial was good and off her NZ form, she’s certianly good enough to threaten.

6 Lekvarte (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a Reliable Man mare resuming for Joe Pride and could be dangerous if the track is allowing them to run on. She last raced here on Anzac Day over 1800m when producing an end of prep run behind Highballer. Blinkers off suggest a prep run is coming here, but the trials indicate she’s returned really well.

Landed with 4 Royal Merchant (Bet Now:  $SP.00). Maher/Eustace trained filly that looked a good thing when resuming at Canterbury three weeks ago and despite a market push against her late, she was miles too good for them, clocking the best late splits of the meeting from on speed. Returned well and think she can make it 2/2 this time in.

2 Tango Fame (Bet Now:  $SP.00) will need luck from the tricky gate but I think he has returned in pretty good order. Resumed at the midweeks at Rosehill where he got back to near last in the run and was never a threat but liked the way he finished his race off behind Operative. If he gets a drag into the race, he’ll be launching late.

9 Euros (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is in with a shout. Did more than enough when resuming at Hawkesbury. Jay Ford then rode her with more intent at Newcastle last time and the end result was a strong win. She was there to be beaten but found when required and was strong to the line. Needs to improve, but that is capable with this camp.

Pretty keen here on 7 Micro (Bet Now:  $SP.00) in what looks a two horse race. James Cummings trained gelding that resumes, having not raced since June 13 at Warwick Farm when back in the run and closing off nicely late in the piece behind a talented animal, Dehorned Unicorn. Couple of strong jumpouts to get ready and J Mac booked is a good lead.

6 Shadow Devil (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is knocking on the door to win this prep for Mark Newnham. Last run came on October 3 when back in the run and charged to the line late when second to Stromboli. He doesn’t have the best of racing patterns but if he’s within range on the turn, he has the finale to win.

4 Zell (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is an I Am Invincible gelding for the Ryan/Alexiou camp that resumes. He hasn’t raced since the Autumn where he had a one run prep, resulting in a down the track effort in the Town Plate at Wagga. Not a noted fresh horse but his trials have been strong. A must for multiples.

3 Kermanding (Bet Now:  $SP.00) on top for me in a pretty thin race. He ran on Hunter Day at Newcastle when near the speed throughout and tried hard but couldn’t quite finish the race off behind an in form Redwood Shadow. The Blinkers back on is key for him and he drops miles in grade/depth. Thought he should be closer to favourite.

8 Fuller (Bet Now:  $SP.00) has well and truly got the J Mac tax in the price, but has found positive form. Last start saw him go to Gosford and he worked home strongly late, just missing out on picking up Dubai Showgirl. Off that effort, 1800m should be ideal, gets J Mac and overall, this race is on the thin side.

6 Tympanist (Bet Now:  $SP.00) can run a much improved race for David Payne. He ran in the Midway on Hunter Day at Newcastle and was too bad to be true, with the vet confirming that post race, with the horse having heat stress and a poor post race recovery. Saves his best for the Kenso…just wants the track to not be rock hard.

Fitter, up in trip, J Mac on, I think it’ll be a case of good luck beating 3 Baltic Coast (Bet Now:  $SP.00). Promising animal for Kris Lees that resumed at the midweeks at Rosehill and I thought he was one of the real eye catchers of the meeting when second to Deep Snow, who looks hard to beat in the Midway on Saturday, so the form reads well and like the set up for him here.

15 Cloudland (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a horse I have plenty of time for. 3/3 to start his career for Kris Lees. He hasn’t quite put gaps on the fields he has beat, but he is a line finder and does what is required. Might be a thinker but beware the unbeaten horse and given his record, he deserves a crack in town.

12 Ka Bling (Bet Now:  $SP.00) looks to have returned well for Team Snowden. He resumed in a pretty strong race at Newcastle and worked home nicely late in the piece when third to This’llbetheone. I am surprised he is a bigger price than that horse here given he has more upside and is better suited at 1400m. Knockout hope.

BEST BET: Race Seven Number 3 Baltic Coast

NEXT BEST: Race One Number 2 Strait Acer

LONG SHOT: Race Six Number 3 Kermanding
