1/9/2017 Horse Racing Tips and Best Bets – Wyong, Wyong Cup day

The biggest day on the Wyong racing calendar comes around this Friday with Wyong Cup Day, with the feature supported by the Mona Lisa Stakes (1350m). The weather is fine, the track is good (4) and the rail is in the true position for the entire circuit.

4 Silverwin (Bet Now: $2.40) is a well bred gelding resuming for the Chris Waller camp. This bloke was hard in the market on debut back in October when running down the track behind Palladian. Been given a really good break, has trialled well leading in and the big tick is that Bowman steers.

8 Showtime (Bet Now: $1.55) is a very well bred colt for Team Hawkes who trialled up okay prior to resuming at the midweeks at Canterbury where he was outside a slow tempo and when the leader sprinted, he was left flatfooted but I liked the way he kicked and found the line late. Not sure Wyong is his track, but he has the form on the board.

It really does look a two horse race now but 2 Hail The Hero (Bet Now: $12.00) is next best. Les Bridge trained four year old who is resuming from a near 18 month break, where he kicked off his career with three runs, with the debut being a fourth to El Divino. That’s really good form for this, and he has been given three trials to tune up.

3 African Rainbow (Bet Now: $2.45) on top for me. Handy mare resuming for the Bjorn Baker and faces her easiest race in six career outings. Looking at her form, it is just far superior to anything else engaged here, including a closing third at Randwick behind She Will Reign. Given a quiet trial a couple of weeks back but I think on class/brilliance alone, she’s the one.

7 Mystic Empire (Bet Now: $2.90) trialled up okay prior to resuming over 1000m here in mid July where she led and knocked up late behind Florid. Has been freshened up and she looked to trial really well last week at Randwick, given a good hit out to tune her up for this 1200m assignment.

5 College Romance (Bet Now: $20.00) was completely unwanted in betting when debuting at Gosford on August 17 but despite nearly starting $101, I didn’t think she was too bad behind the above average Longreach in a maiden which had far more depth than this. Draws to get a sweet trip and should improve.

4 Schubert (Bet Now: $2.70) is a progressive three year old for Godolphin and James Cummings who was a month between runs when racing at the midweeks at Canterbury and to be fair he ran well, but he bumped into a strong field, with the race won by the promising Super Ex. Drops a bit in depth and should improve fitness wise.

1 Princess Posh (Bet Now: $2.00) is the class runner of the field and looks one of the hardest to beat, if not the one to beat. She resumed at the midweeks at Canterbury where she just got held up slightly on the turn before getting clear and finishing off nicely late behind Cudabeen. She is the class factor and that will carry her a long way.

3 Pindara (Bet Now: $6.50) is a mare in really good form for Allan Denham, who no doubt will have this girl primed for Cup Day on the local track. She ran over 1100m at Gosford last time out and was given a lovely ride by Josh Parr to get the job done narrowly but impressively. Not quite as dynamic second up which is the concern, but hard to ignore what she did fresh.

5 High Tranquility (Bet Now: $2.40) is a John Sargent trained mare who will love the step up to the mile. She ran over 1400m at Kembla Grange last time out where she was given a lovely ride by Koby Jennings in the box seat, and when he got into the clear it was game over and she kicked hard. No trouble with the trip here and rates highly.

3 Tatoosh (Bet Now: $4.80) is a bit of a non winner but he has been racing well and this is a very winnable race for him. Closed off with real purpose last time out at Warwick Farm when 1.1L off Sir Barb in running fourth. Two from 28 isn’t great, but he gets the claim and this field isn’t strong.

7 The Iron Maiden (Bet Now: $10.00) is a bit of a plodder but the small field does bring her into the mix as an exotic contender. She ran over the Taree mile last time out and closed off pretty well late against the tempo/bias behind Fraajmahal. Got a good record on her home track and draws a soft gate.

6 Rosa Carolina (Bet Now: $3.80) clearly on top for me here. Quality mare resuming for the Kris Lees stable after a pretty solid Autumn campaign. Thought she’d head down the Provincial Championship path but they went blacktype instead and she ran well in a couple of races at that level. Been given two solid trials to prepare and she’s the one for me.

11 Sisken (Bet Now: $5.00) is a smart mare that resumes for the Godolphin team and James Cummings. She ran four times during the Autumn, winning her first three impressively, including two at metro level, before a fourth to Into Times Of War in a strong race at Randwick. Only given the one quiet trial but she goes well fresh and draws a soft gate.

12 Alaskan Wolf (Bet Now: $35.00) is a local mare for Normen Rogers who could represent some decent value here in a tricky sprint. Thought she closed off well last time out at the midweeks at Canterbury behind Irithea in what looked a strong race on paper. Two runs on the home track have seen her place in a similar race and then a total forgive in the Provincial Championship Qualifier behind Noble Joey.

10 Faith’s Encore (Bet Now: $9.50) looks the each way play here. Smart mare for Team Snowden who hasn’t raced since August 12 at Rosehill where she tried hard but was pipped late by Elouera in a race where the form does look as if it will hold up. Lightly raced, has upside, maps superly and McEvoy steers.

1 Sweet Redemption (Bet Now: $5.00) got some well deserved blacktype next to her name by winning the Toy Show at Randwick. It was a brave win as she led all the way into the wind down the side and kicked hard under Hippo to hold them out. Think she gets the front here and similar tactics to last start will see her take some beating.

9 Suspenders (Bet Now: $20.00) is a tick under three weeks between runs since racing over 1400m at Rosehill where she was caught wide no cover on speed yet fought on very well in defeat I thought behind Elouera in a bunched finish. The stable is low flying at the moment and you have to respect anything they put a saddle on.

6 Sayed (Bet Now: $1.55) gets the nod for me in the Cup. Chris Waller trained stayer who has been in ripping form at the moment and will love the weight relief he gets here. Looked all over a winner last time out over 2400m at Randwick and was outgunned late by Auvray, though I still think Bowman got caught napping. Back to 2100m is no issue and he’s the one for me.

1 Destiny’s Kiss (Bet Now: $5.50) is low flying for Joe Pride. He just needs luck to go his way. On the quick back up after racing in the Premiers Cup last Saturday where nothing really went right for him at a vital stage and he definitely should have placed behind Dee I Cee. Bowman sticks and looks the obvious.

If they do go silly in front, I’d look out for 8 Sofin (Bet Now: $34.00). She has had no luck at her past couple with big weights in the Coffs Cup and Taree Cup respectively. Both races were run at slow tempos and for a mare that does get back/run on, that scenario is not ideal when she is near the top of the weights. Happy to include her here.

3 Raiden (Bet Now: $2.05) is a very promising four year old for the Kris Lees stable who comes out of maiden grade but he was very sharp in breaking the duck at Gosford over 1100m last time out where he was backed hard late at the odds on quote and justified the support with a commanding performance. Really keen.

7 Piracy (Bet Now: $2.25) is an above average three year old gelding for Godolphin and James Cummings who has been given a little break since getting the win on the board at the midweeks at Warwick Farm on August 2 in what did look to be a good race on paper but the form since has been suspect. Still, he won, and his recent trial was very good behind Hualalai, a potential Caulfield Guineas contender.

4 Never Out (Bet Now: $6.50) was a mare I ran out of patience with after failing over this track/distance two back. Of course she came out next time out at Gosford and let down powerfully to get the win over 1100m. 1200m is the big question mark with her, but the small field should offset that to an extent with a likely slow tempo.

NEXT BEST: Race Eight Number 3 Raiden

VALUE: Race Six Number 10 Faith’s Encore
