19/4/2025 Horse Racing Tips and Best Bets – Eagle Farm, Ascot Handicap day

Ten races have been set down for Eagle Farm on Saturday. The weather is fine, the track is soft (5) and the rail is out three metres for the entire circuit.

1 Navy Pilot (Bet Now:  $SP.00) has plenty on these IMO. He was excellent on debut on the Kenso before going to the Sires when stepping straight up to 1400m and he was far from disgraced in defeat behind Vinrock. He has that 1400m run under the belt and the depth here is nowhere near as deep. Keen.

6 On Point Pixie (Bet Now:  $SP.00) has done little wrong in two career outings and is one of the key chances. She placed on debut at the Sunny Coast behind subsequent Saturday winner Dragonne Rouge. She then went here a fortnight back and kept on in a good effort in defeat when second to Thee Creek. 1400m is fine and this isn’t a deep contest.

5 Ten Pins (Bet Now:  $SP.00) commands respect. Clinton Taylor trained gelding that comes to town off the back of a debut win at Townsville where he got on speed and was trucking before being clicked up and away he went to spank them. He’s a nice horse, heading in the right direction and is one of the key chances.

4 Galifianakis (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is flying for Jack Bruce and is one of the leading contenders off the back of two wins, the latest being at Doomben where he gave them a start and a beating in an electric performance. He’s flying at present and this race isn’t overly deep.

5 Kipling’s Journey (Bet Now:  $SP.00) should be fine at 2200m after racing over 2000m at Doomben when attempting to lead throughout and he gave a strong kick from the front but he couldn’t quite see it through when second to Galifianakis. Hard to knock the way he’s racing.

7 Tappy’s Lad (Bet Now:  $SP.00) will land on speed and take running down, as seen two weeks back here when near the front and he was brave the way he kicked on but just found one better in Roller Coaster. Good racing style, tough, he should give a good account of himself.

5 Avone (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is one of the hardest to beat for Team Sears off the back of a placing at this track/distance two weeks ago when first up. She got into a decent spot in transit and tried hard but just couldn’t quite get there when third. I think with that run under the belt, she’ll be better off and can take this out.

8 Mighty (Bet Now:  $SP.00) had plenty of excuses when she ran two weeks back here behind Hurts So Good, beaten just under two lengths. She was galloped on in the run, she was slow to recover, several weeks between runs…total forgive. Her best is good enough to threaten.

13 Thelwell (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a Sharryn Livingstone trained gelding that resumes. This guy is first up, having not raced since Oct 26 over 1110m at Doomben when on speed and tried hard but just couldn’t quite see it through when last behind Tiger Shark. No public trials but can sprint well fresh.

11 Mean Approach (Bet Now:  $SP.00) has had a couple of runs at 1200m now and the Eagle Farm 1200m now looks ideal. He ran at Doomben last time when off speed and was there to win but just couldn’t quite get there when third to John Rambo. He’s hard to beat.

6 Devastating (Bet Now:  $SP.00) doesn’t have the best of winning strike rates but he is a horse with talent who will be strong late. He resumed over 1000m at Eagle Farm when off speed and chased with purpose in a good return behind Enterprise Lucia. Great second up record, he’s a leading contender.

7 Scud (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is capable with her best. She ran behind John Rambo at Doomben last time when back off the speed and was held up at times but didn’t mind the way she finished her race off in defeat. If she can settle closer, be within range, she’s definitely dangerous.

1 Depth Of Character (Bet Now:  $SP.00) has the weight to carry but there is a reason for that. He is the class factor, and by some distance. He ran two weeks ago in the Carbine Club at Randwick and didn’t disgrace himself in defeat when third to a Group class horse, Evaporate. Great record at Eagle Farm, back miles in grade/depth…the one to beat, and clearly.

2 Apuntar (Bet Now:  $SP.00) has the runs on the board to say he’s hard to beat. He ran second to Goodlucktome at Doomben last time, sitting off speed and chased strongly, just missing out on the win. Like him up in trip and is one of the leading contenders.

4 Prince Levi (Bet Now:  $SP.00) has to be given another look for Matty Kropp. He ran last start at Doomben where he was a short priced favourite but he didn’t fire a shot and was very much on the plaon side late in the piece behind Liberty Park. His best is good enough so not penning him.

2 Castillian (Bet Now:  $SP.00) looks one of the hardest to beat off the back of his resumption over 1350m at Doomben when off speed and worked home with real purpose late in the piece when second to Ludovisi. He was a real eye catcher there, clocking good late splits. Fitter and up to 1400m, he takes beating.

12 French Endeavour (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is the class of the field and that is going to carry her a long way. First run for Billy Healey after formerly being with Matty Smith, the latest run being a few weeks back at this track/distance when far from disgraced behind Warby. That form clearly reads well for this.

3 Influential (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a few weeks between runs since a track/distance win when getting a beaut run in transit just off the speed before angling clear and knuckled down with purpose late to win and win well. He does seem effective at 1400m and is a key chance.

10 Imatruestar (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is one of the hardest to beat after a fourth over 1500m here two weeks ago here behind Mississippi Prince when off speed and worked home with purpose late in the piece. Lands in a plum spot from the inside draw and gets Noel Callow to stand over him.

19 More Trouble (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is knocking on the door for Jack Bruce and this isn’t a deep contest. He ran over the mile at Doomben last time out when near the speed and tried hard but just couldn’t quite see it through when third to impressive winner Demon Darb. If the track is on the firmer side, he’s hard to beat.

16 Tuhinga (Bet Now:  $SP.00) commands respect after runner up effort over the mile here two weeks ago when off speed and worked home with purpose but just couldn’t quite get there when a close up third to Mississippi Primce. 1600m here should be fine and if within range, he has the finale to win.

7 Libertad (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is ready to go for mine. Neasham/Archibald trained gelding that resumes, having not raced since this time last year when placing in the Arrowfield Sprint behind Joliestar, so he’s clearly had his issues but his trial work has been strong, he lands in a plum spot…hard to beat.

10 Liquor (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a good mare that is dangerous. She has been kept on ice since a triumph in the Military Rose when leading throughout and despite being out of tickets late, she had enough in hand to score. Tick over trial was sharp, she’s a short course specialist and is fit whereas some of these may need the run.

2 Cannonball (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a Tony Gollan trained gelding that resumes. He is first up, having not raced since the Magic Millions Snippets at the Gold Coast when off speed and failed to get involved behind Zarastro. He goes well fresh, he’s effective at 1000m, he can threaten.

5 Boomtown Boss (Bet Now:  $SP.00) has to be given respect for Tony Gollan after a win here two weeks ago where he gave them a start and an absolute beating, producing a brilliant finale from off the speed to win. If there is no second up syndrome, he is one of the leading contenders.

3 Goodlucktome (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is hard to beat off the back of a win over 1350m at Doomben where he got a good run in transit just off the speed before angling clear and knuckled down with purpose late to win and win well. He’s found winning form, a purple patch…he can win again.

2 Pisces (Bet Now:  $SP.00) should love the rise to 1400m after resuming four weeks ago over 1200m in the Darby Munro where the market said he wasn’t there to play and ran accordingly when down the track behind Autumn Glow. Fitter and up to 1400m, he has runs on the board to say he’s hard to beat.

4 Manhood (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is four weeks between runs since racing over 1200m at Doomben. He attempted to lead throughout and gave a strong kick from the front but was found wanting late, nabbed near the peg by Lost In Transit. Should be around the mark against this lot.

21 Mintaka Lad (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a key chance. He ran over this track/distance a fortnight back when off speed and seemed to have his chance but he battled away well enough in defeat I thought behind Master Showman. He’s hot and cold at times but his best is good enough to threaten.

14 Exotique Miss (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a Michael Nolan trained mare that resumes. Her best is overly slightly further but she does have an element of class about her when right and her trial work to get ready for the return has been quite strong so I say watch betting and see what it does.

LONG SHOT: Race Seven Number 10 Imatruestar
