Doomben 10,000 🏆: View the Field and Odds for the Doomben 10,000
Race 1. (11:48) U&U Recruitment Hcp (C6) 1600m
6 Rising Pacific (Bet Now: $SP.00) is knocking on the door to win for Tony Gollan. This guy has placed his past two, the latest being over the mile at Eagle Farm two weeks ago where he got off the speed and kept finding the line in a really good effort behind Northern Decree. Knocking on the door and this isn’t an overly deep race.
1 Eaglemont (Bet Now: $SP.00) has to lump the weight but there is a reason for that. He has class. Race shape and WFA wasn’t to his liking in The Archer at Rocky last time but I loved the way he found the line late in the piece behind Namazu, who dominated from the front. Up to the mile, drops miles in grade/depth, he appeals.
They have tried 3 Fifth Position (Bet Now: $SP.00) to run 1800m-2000m, but for mine, the mile is his trip, so running at that distance here, he appeals. He ran in the Wapiti race from two weeks back over 1800m where he seemingly had every chance but was far from disgraced in defeat. Back in trip and back in depth, he commands some form of respect.
Race 2. (12:23) The Star (Bm78) 1350m
5 Outlawed (Bet Now: $SP.00) is sneaky flying for Rob Heathcoate. This mare ran a fortnight back over 1400m at Eagle Farm. She got a fair way out of her ground and while she was never a winning threat, I loved the way she found the line late in the piece. If she can settle closer in the run, she’ll take beating.
7 Warby (Bet Now: $SP.00) should take a power of beating. Tony Gollan trained gelding that resumed two weeks ago at Eagle Farm where he looked all over a winner when Maloney asked for the big effort and even on the replay, he looked home. But the photo went the way of stablemate Immoral. Fitter and up in trip, good upside, he’s clearly the one to beat.
10 Blakmax (Bet Now: $SP.00) is third up from a spell and should just about be at peak fitness. This mare ran behind Zoe’s Promise at Eagle Farm over 1400m where she seemingly had every chance from behind the speed but was very one paced in the run to the line behind the Kris Lees mare. Hard fit now and off the first up run, she’ll take beating.
Race 3. (12:58) Moreton Hire Plate 1350m
10 McHale (Bet Now: $SP.00) is the one for me. He comes through the Hawkesbury Guineas where he was one of the eye catchers of the meeting, closing off with purpose against the race shape when third to all the way winner Schwarz. Maps to get the run of the race from gate one and off last run, he’ll take beating.
5 Razors (Bet Now: $SP.00) rates highly. He tried his guts out in the QLD Guineas last time and for a few strides, looked the winner, but the end of 1600m just found him out and he had to settle for a second to Kintyre. Back to 1350m, kind map, hard fit and in form, he appeals.
13 Abounding (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a very good filly for Rob Heathcoate that commands respect. She resumed in the Mick Dittman a few weeks back where she was kept very safe in betting, getting a sweet sit behind the speed beffoe angling wider and she looked $1.01 300m out but being first up, condition just gave way late in the piece. Fitter and up in trip, she takes beating.
Race 4. (13:33) Chairman's Hcp 2000m
11 Regal Lion (Bet Now: $SP.00) is knocking on the door for Annabel Neasham. This gelding has been runner up his past two, placing in the Albury Cup two back behind Fawkner Park before going to Eagle Farm three weeks ago where he looked all over the winner but couldn’t quite see it through and had to run for a narrow second to Warp Speed. Like him at 2000m and this isn’t a deep race.
8 Warning (Bet Now: $SP.00) should appreciate a rise to 2000m. He resumed over 1800m at Eagle Farm where the race shape wasn’t really to his liking so forgive and forget the return behind Wapiti. Had trialled well leading in and with a better set up here, more genuine tempo, I think he can run an improved race at a price.
Fitter and up to 2000m are two big ticks for 10 London Banker (Bet Now: $SP.00). He is three weeks between runs since contesting the Brisbane Handicap where he got back and was never a factor when down the track behind Mighty Ulysses. He gets to an ideal trip this time, he likes Doomben…not penning him.
Race 5. (14:08) Members' Hcp 1600m
4 Territory Express (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a quirky animal. He has a few loose screws upstairs but there is no denying he has the engine under the hood. A big engine. Loved his win in the Provincial Final, getting a 12/10 steer from Zac Lloyd and he dashed clear late. 1600m no issue, maps to do no work and has the change up speed to take care of these.
6 Knight’s Choice (Bet Now: $SP.00) has the engine under the hood to measure up. Symons/Laxon trained four year old that looked a rising star this time last year but he didn’t quite go on with it in the Spring. He returns to racing at the mile, so you’d have to assume he’s fit, and in terms of quality, I am convinced he is capable.
Fitter and up to the mile are two big ticks for 12 Sneak Preview (Bet Now: $SP.00). David Vandyke trained gelding that resumed over 1300m at Eagle Farm three weeks back where he got back to near last in the run and did make up good ground without threatening behind Ovidius. His best is good enough to measure up and off the return, I think he’s in with a shout.
Race 6. (14:43) Spirit Of Boom Classic 1200m
Tricky race. I do like the look of 3 Bittercreek (Bet Now: $SP.00) for Team Corstens. He hasn’t raced since March 23 when placing in The Valley Pearl behind Growing Empire, who went on to spank them next start at Morphettville and is one of the better juveniles seen this season. That form reads very well, he’ll be strong late and gets B Shinn.
7 President (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a Chris Waller trained colt that resumes. His last run came in the Skyline during the Sydney Autumn where he was raw and new, finishing down the track behind Storm Boy. Jogged in a recent Canterbury trial, albeit in very slow time, he gets J Mac and the stable is humming with their juveniles.
2 Zouna (Bet Now: $SP.00) is two weeks between runs since contesting the Dalrello at Eagle Farm where he kept chasing from near the speed but couldn’t quite get there when third to Mishani Lily. 1200m is the query, but he’s very genuine, hard fit and will just keep fighting. Knockout hope.
Race 7. (15:22) Bright Shadow 1110m
5 Chinny Boom (Bet Now: $SP.00) looks a great each way gamble. Clinton Taylor has tried to get this mare to be a 1200m/1300m horse, but for mine, short course racing is her go in life so this set up here is ideal. Tried her guts out at 1200m last time here but just didn’t quite see it out. Fresh legs, 1110m, down in the weights, kind map…only runs well.
18 Blue Spinel (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a ripper for Tony Gollan and commands respect. This mare resumed over 1000m at Eagle Farm where she got shuffled back nearer the inside but saved ground and was there to win 200m out. But, being first up, condition just gave way late behind Shalaa’s Moment. Better set up here, she commands respect.
15 Red Rubi (Bet Now: $SP.00) has a good record at the short course and is capable. She is four weeks between runs since contesting the Ascot Handicap where she got off the pace and tried hard but on that shifty track, she couldn’t really pick her feet up and was a bit on the disappointing side behind The Big Goodbye. Not dismissing her.
Race 8. (16:02) Doomben 10,000 1200m
All things being equal, 1 I Wish I Win (Bet Now: $SP.00) has a bit on these. He resumed in the TJ Smith on testing ground, which was a massive ask, but he ran such a brave race in defeat when third to Chain Of Lightning. He had his chance but was only beaten a neck. Firmer footing, class edge, been set for this Carnival, J Mac sticks…good luck beating him.
Process of elimination, 2 Private Eye (Bet Now: $SP.00) is second pick. He attempted to lead throughout in the All Aged and he was as brave as ever. Just didn’t quite run the seven furlongs out on the bottomless deck when third to Magic Time. Quiet tick over trial to get ready for the return, firmer footing, back to 1200m and the stable want to impress to get an Everest slot.
5 Bella Nipotina (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a beauty for Ciaron Maher. Several weeks between runs since contesting The Quokka at Ascot where she was wide no cover throughout but was as game as ever in defeat behind Overpass. Maps much better this time around…doubt she beats I Wish I Win, but for exotics, she is an absolute must.
Race 9. (16:38) Rough Habit Plate 2000m
8 Port Lockroy (Bet Now: $SP.00) has the talent under the hood to measure up but just needs a half positive ride. He was given none in the QLD Guineas two weeks ago and while he made up a stack of ground, he was never really threatening behind Kintyre. He should love the rise to 2000m and with a half positive steer, he’s going to take beating.
1 Kintyre (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a beauty for Gary Portelli and commands respect. Won the Frank Packer at this trip at Randwick via protest before coming back to the mile in the QLD Guineas where he was given a 12/10 by Cejay Graham and in a driving finish, he was too good. Back up in trip, hard fit and in form, he appeals.
6 More Trouble (Bet Now: $SP.00) is third up and just about ready to go for Jack Bruce. Just looked in need of the run fresh at Eagle Farm behind Ocean Zar before going to Ipswich where he stepped up in trip and ran an improved race. Is a winner at 2000m from last prep and maps to do no work. First four threat.
