Saturday racing in Brisbane returns to Doomben this Saturday for some quality racing, highlighted by the $150,000 Listed Lough Neagh Stakes (1350m). The weather is fine, the track is good (4) and the rail is in the true position for the entire circuit.

Race One (13:27) : 97.3FM Phelan Ready Stakes 1110m
Back Me: 1 Despatch (Bet Now: $4.40) comes here for the Magic Millions for Tony McEvoy and while I doubt he is the best youngster in the stable, he does look talented as we saw on debut when winning the Clockwise Classic at Ballarat, sitting on speed and fighting on strongly. You always have to respect the stable and their juveniles and whatever they saddle up.
Big Danger: 4 Ours To Keep (Bet Now: $2.05) resumes here for Chris Munce after spanking them on debut over 1050m here in early October, leading throughout to win by 4.5L. Time was much quicker than the fillies and it compared well with the open sprinters, which is a big tick for a debutante. Probably one of QLD’s best chances of winning the Magic Millions and I’m keen to see what he does here.
Long Shot: 12 Snitzkraft (Bet Now: $5.50) is a newcomer for Kelso Wood, a trainer who has been quiet with his youngsters so far this season but takes the wrapping paper off this colt, who hasn’t been seen publicly leading up to this, but you always have to respect the stable and their juveniles.
Race Two (14:02) : International Interior Images Calaway Gal Stakes 1110m
Back Me: 12 We Have Lift Off (Bet Now: $6.50) is a well bred filly that debuts for the Waterhouse/Bott yard. She has had two trials so far to date, starting off at the official trials behind Gimcrack winner Jorda in September before being freshened up. She trialled last week at Rosehill and won impressively, and ran time. She’ll measure up here for sure.
Big Danger: 1 Dream Kisses (Bet Now: $11.00) resumed off a freshen up when racing over 1000m at Eagle Farm a fortnight back where she got back in the run and though she loomed to win when presented at the top of the straight, she just petered out of the finish late. Should take improvement and up 100m in trip will suit her.
Long Shot: 10 Jabrook (Bet Now: $31.00) debuted in that race contested above by Dream Kisses where she sat near the speed throughout and dropped out of it late when beaten eight lengths despite being somewhat in the market. Well bred, and there was support for her that day, so I’m willing to give her another chance on the tighter track.
Race Three (14:37) : Delfinas Bistro Gold Edition Plate 1200m
Back Me: 1 Winning Rupert (Bet Now: $1.14) should stamp his Magic Millions credentials here with another dominant win. That is what happened when he resumed at Eagle Farm two weeks back, leading throughout and bolting up, smashing the track record despite not being fully extended. Not sure if he will win the Magic Millions Guineas, but I am pretty sure he’ll spank this lot en route to the Gold Coast.
Big Danger: 8 Gold Denari (Bet Now: $13.00) resumed on his home track at Morphettville three weeks back where he was well backed to win the event and despite being under pressure most of the way, he kept finding and hit the front late, only to be ambushed by stablemate Vivaldi’s Quest, who backed that form up with a ripping effort last Saturday. Not sure he can win, but he can definitely fill a place.
Long Shot: 6 Deep Image (Bet Now: $19.00) is the very interesting runner here. Debuts for David Vandyke stable off the back of just one trial, but gee it visually looked outstanding and the time confirms that. He won the trial by 4.5L and ran very slick time for the trip. Of course eligible for easier, but the fact they run here fresh gives an indication of how highly they rate him.
Race Four (15:12) : DF Interiors Plate (Class 3) 1350m
Back Me: 14 Doubt Defying (Bet Now: $3.80) is a talented gelding for Steve O’Dea that resumed in a hot 3YO race at Eagle Farm a fortnight back and got a long way back in the run before making up really good ground late then getting blocked over the final 75m behind tearaway winner Winning Rupert. This looks a significant drop in depth despite taking on the older horses, he has upside and he will be strong late.
Big Danger: 7 Say You Love Me (Bet Now: $5.50) ran over 1500m at Eagle Farm in a similar race to this three weeks back where she settled in the second half of the field before Byrne got her to the outside at the top of the straight and she chased hard all the way down the straight but had to settle for a close up second to Benfica Princess. Back to 1350m will suit her and she rates highly.
Long Shot: 10 Catenaccio (Bet Now: $15.00) ran over this track/distance last Friday in a solid race where Larry Cassidy gave her a charmed run just off the speed but she just couldn’t ping on the heavy track and had to be content with a well beaten second to Prince Of The Turf, who led and spanked them. I think she’ll be better off on top of the ground here and is a knockout chance.
Race Five (15:52) : PPS Tailored Furniture Solutions Brisbane Handicap 1600m
Back Me: 2 Sweet Redemption (Bet Now: $2.90) looks one of the better bets on the program. She was game in defeat two back in a fiercely run Goulburn Cup (1600m) before going to the Festival (1500m) at Rosehill where Avdulla rode her an absolute treat on speed and she found plenty in the straight when challenged to get the job done. Gets speed favours here, hard fit, in form…should take a power of beating.
Big Danger: 3 Cylinder Beach (Bet Now: $3.60) well above average. He resumed in the Recognition (1400m) at Eagle Farm three weeks back and despite being a drifter in betting, and under pressure before the home turn, gee he finished with purpose and drew clear late to beat Hopfgarten, who was competitive with Le Romain and co during the Melbourne Spring, so that is a big tick for me here. He has upside, down in the weights and he’ll love a fast run Doomben mile.
Long Shot: 6 Feltre (Bet Now: $12.00), like most here, come here through the Recognition and his effort in defeat was very good given he stuck nearer the inside, and I am not sure that is the A ground at Eagle Farm when the track has give in it, but he stuck on very well behind Cylinder Beach. 1600m second up looks an ideal recipe and he has a stack of upside for an in form stable.
Race Six (16:32) : JFS Construction Quality Handicap 2000m
Back Me: 7 Saga Miss (Bet Now: $3.00) just picks herself here. She is a mare in a real purple patch for Team Hulbert who comes here off the back of an outstanding win over 1800m at Eagle Farm a fortnight back where she sat back in the run before Nathan Day got her into the clear 250m out and she just exploded. Based on what I saw on Twitter, she has come through that run in sensational order and she’ll only be suited up to 2000m.
Big Danger: 4 La Spiaggia (Bet Now: $17.00) was an alarming drifter in betting when racing in the Coffs Harbour Cup last Friday and that market fluc proved spot on as he finished midfield behind Bodega Negra. 1600m is short of his best, so back up to 2000m will suit this galloper, and he has a fab record at Doomben.
Long Shot: 13 Annaman (Bet Now: $18.00) was given a two month freshen up prior to racing over 1500m at Eagle Farm a fortnight back where he had a nice sit just off the speed and stuck to the task quite well I thought when running fifth to the in form Man Of His Word. He is another that raced short of his ideal trip last start and is suited 2000m with the run under the belt.
Race Seven (17:12) : Lexy Group Lough Neagh Stakes 1350m
Back Me: 3 Miss Cover Girl (Bet Now: $4.80), like most here, come through the George Moore (1200m) a fortnight back at Eagle Farm and she was one of the more unlucky runners given she got badly held up early on in the straight when at the same time those around her will building up good momentum. If the track does have cushion in it, that will play right into her hands and though she is not quite as dynamic second up, she has class.
Big Danger: 4 Most Important (Bet Now: $3.30) won the George Moore and was quite dominant on the line, though a tad flattered I suspect by a brilliant ride and a couple of runners behind him not having much luck. Still, it was very good to the eye and they ran slick time. On his racing pattern, the 1350m should be no issue but his record says otherwise. That’s the issue for him, but if he overcomes that, then he is one of the hardest to beat.
Long Shot: 1 Ninth Legion (Bet Now: $9.50) hasn’t quite set the world on fire this time off the back of some strong trial efforts at the start of the prep. He ran over 1500m a fortnight back when sitting near the speed and faltering late when seventh to Sweet Redemption. Big drop in depth here and with Harrison aboard, I can see this horse pinging to the lead and giving them something to think about.
Race Eight (17:48) : South Pacific Laundry Bribie Handicap 1050m
Back me: 1 Casual Choice (Bet Now: $5.50) is an absolute ripper for Tony Gollan that resumes here. He raced three times during the Autumn, winning all three, with two of those over the short course here, both of which had depth to them. No trials, so fitness levels are unknown, but he draws well and flies fresh.
Big Danger: If they do go silly in front, look for 4 Architect (Bet Now: $4.80) to ambush late. He is a hot and cold galloper but when he is right, he is well above average. He hasn’t raced since March at this track/distance when finishing down the track behind Wicked Intent. Drawn a touch awkwardly, but with a hot speed engaged here, he’ll get his chance to run on. A threat for sure if the breaks go his way.
Long Shot: 8 Falino (Bet Now: $51.00) isn’t one of my favourites but this race has fallen away a bit by withdrawals and we know that on his day he is capable. He will get back in the run, like Architect, but there will be good speed in front of him and Cassidy being booked is a lead perhaps.
