Nine races will be run and won at Morphettville on Saturday where it is W H Whylie Handicap Day. The weather forecast is for showers, the track is soft (6) and the rail is out six metres for the entire circuit.

I’ll start this preview by saying these tips are for a track that is Heavy9, potentially Heavy10, with all the rain forecast Wednesday through to Saturday, including raceday. 6 Lynda’s Legacy (Bet Now: $11.00) is bred to swim and she comes to town straight away off the back of a debut win over 900m at Murray Bridge. She had the suck run behind the speed before angling into clear air and let down powerfully to win and win well. Down in the weights, has change up speed and is proven on wet ground.

2 Philosopher (Bet Now: $2.60) has the Victorian form to give this a shake. This colt resumed against the older horses at Sale where he was odds on but was quite plain late I thought and disappointing when fourth to Continuance. This is a massive drop in grade/depth, so he commands respect…could I dive into him at the price? No.

3 Kiki Express (Bet Now: $4.60) creates interest. Formerly with Matty Ellerton, she now finds herself with Travis Doudle and is quite dangerous in a race like this. Her last run came in the Autumn at Flemington when down the track behind Ruthless Dame. The trial and then jumpout were both sharp pieces of work, so watch the market.

Does look a race in two. Leaning towards 4 Another Ponzi (Bet Now: $2.40), who has the upside. He debuted last Wednesday at Murray Bridge where he was wide throughout and just took a little while to wind into his work but he picked up and surged hard late, just missing out on the win when beaten a lip. Fitter, up in trip, he’s the one to beat.

9 Sghirripa (Bet Now: $1.80) will look the winner for a fair chunk of the race but the last bit will test. That was the case when resuming over 1100m here a fortnight back and he looked the winner but was nabbed late. 1200m on testing ground is the query, but when this track gets heavy, it can play on speed, so that’s his saving grace.

3 A Midnight Shadow (Bet Now: $41.00) is a 19 start maiden who can pinch a first four spot. Hasn’t raced since June 29 at Balaklava when back in the run and closing off okay without threatening. Can’t find a trial/jumpout, so guessing re how forward she is, but she’ll be strong at the end.

1 Flossing (Bet Now: $2.80) on top but not really a race I want to get involved in. In saying that, this gelding brings okay Victorian form and finds a very thin race. Handled the bog best to win at Cranbourne last time and with rain forecast, this track should be testing and that plays into his hands.

6 Dixie Whistler (Bet Now: $6.00) will be near the speed and giving a sight. She attempted to lead throughout a fortnight back at this track/distance and did give a solid kick from the front but couldn’t quite finish the job when fourth to Smiling Assassin. I think with a bunny to chase, she’ll be more effective.

2 Silent Command (Bet Now: $4.40) has had a couple of runs for the stable and should be around the mark. Game third to Ichibansan two back before going to this track/distance where he battled away really well from on speed when third to Smiling Assassin. Has that 2500m run under the belt which should hold him in good stead.

5 Moscow Red (Bet Now: $5.00) is a gun wet tracker and she gets conditions to suit. Wide throughout over 1800m here two weeks ago but she finished best and was just too tough and too good for them. Back to the mile should be fine given the track will be heavy so I think she’ll be strong at the end.

8 Headphones (Bet Now: $5.50) needs to prove she can bring her Murray Bridge form to town. She has been impressive her last couple, both on the home deck at Murray Bridge, the latest coming last Wednesday when making an absolute mess of them. If she brings that here, she’ll be around the mark.

6 Getouttheway (Bet Now: $19.00) is a Sue Nolan trained gelding that comes here with fresh legs, having not raced since July 30 when down the track on the course proper here behind Miss Gobcain. Saves his best for Gawler, but the trial was encouraging, and overall, this isn’t a strong race.

13 Turfitt (Bet Now: $4.40) doesn’t have the best of winning strike rates but I do think back to 1500m is a big tick for her. She’s racing well but I just think 1600m at this level just sees her out, finishing a close up fifth over the mile here two weeks ago. Back to 1500m, back slightly in grade/depth, she appeals.

12 Salt Bay (Bet Now: $3.20) commands respect. Formerly with Amy McDonald and now finds himself with Will Clarken, a master at improving a tried horse. This guy is several weeks between runs since a strong third on the Parks track behind Heywood, closing off nicely. Hard to beat in a thin race.

Fitter and up to 1500m are two big ticks for 3 Exalted Fire (Bet Now: $5.50). Resumed over 1200m here two weeks back where he was never a factor but was solid late in the piece behind Ultimate Victory. Straight to the mile I find interesting but that set up isn’t beyond Michael Hickmott.

2 Magic Max (Bet Now: $4.40) looks really hard to beat for the Richards/Moyle camp. He was far from disgraced fresh in the Lightning behind Extremely Lucky before going to Murray Bridge where he was ridden cold and was very good late behind a handy Victorian, Wolflands. If he’s within range 400m out, good luck beating him I’d suggest.

9 Zarace (Bet Now: $6.50) is racing in pretty good form for Ken Sweeney. Put together a couple of sharp wins on the bounce before finishing midfield behind Rigel Star. Then went to the course proper here a fortnight back and battled on well when third to Taunting. That clearly reads well for this.

5 May Be Fate (Bet Now: $7.50) is hard to beat if you can trust the first up run. Resumed over 1200m a few weeks back at Morphettville and was very good from off the speed, finishing strongly late to finish second to Pimm’s Party. Back to 1050m I hate, but if they overdo it in front, he’ll launch late.

1 Sixbysixtythree (Bet Now: $2.50) is clearly the one they have to beat. He is four weeks between runs since racing at The Valley when on speed and battled on pretty well in defeat when third to Sam’s Image. This looks a pretty thin 72 and with the claim for McNeil, gee he gets in well.

2 Extra Mile (Bet Now: $4.60) is bursting to win a race for Team Jolly. He has placed his last three, the latest over 1050m here two weeks ago when back in the run and closed off strongly when third to Noname Lane, beaten just over a length. Saves his best for the short course, but is capable at 1200m.

7 Crown Mint (Bet Now: $26.00) is a Richards/Moyle trained gelding that resumes. He hasn’t raced since May 28 at Murray Bridge when producing an end of prep run when down the track behind Thrill Kill. He can sprint well fresh and though he’ll be a fair way back, he’ll be strong late.

10 Taunting (Bet Now: $2.80) deserves a crack at Stakes grade. Michael Hickmott trained gelding that is 2/2 this time in. Bolted up fresh on the home deck at Mruray Bridge before making a mess of them two weeks ago, albeit in a race easier than this. Clearly a harder assignment, but he’s a promising animal with enormous upside.

2 Kemalpasa (Bet Now: $5.00) is here to rock and roll. Quality sprinter for Team Jolly that resumes, having not raced since the William Reid when down the track after doing work from the gate. Given a good break, dodged the Adelaide Carnival, and his trial/jumpout work has been quite strong. On speed, class, genuine, he commands respect.

11 Wotuwant (Bet Now: $61.00) has been up forever but gee he’s racing in good form. Was on his back a few weeks ago here on the Parks tracl and was there to win but had to settle for a second to a sharp Hayes horse, Rigel Star. He’s bursting to win another race…doubt it comes here, but a first four threat.

9 Magic Phantom (Bet Now: $5.00) is bursting to win again and I think he finds a very winnable race. Looked the winner when Callow presented him two weeks ago here but he couldn’t quite get there when a narrow third to Elsa’s Pride. He can be hit and miss, but he seems to be racing much more consistently this time in.

1 Brazen Bully (Bet Now: $4.00) is the key threat. He resumed on testing ground at Echuca and ran a game race in defeat when closing off to run third to El Salto, who is flying this time in. Gets gate one and the claim, so should get a suck run behind the speed and prove to be a leading contender.

5 Kingson (Bet Now: $17.00) is likely using this as a prep run to get ready for the upcoming Port Lincoln season. He resumes, having not raced since June 25 here when leading and just feeling the pinch late behind Classy Kenny. Doubt he wins, but if the track is playing on speed, he can pinch a first four spot.

LONG SHOT: Race Nine Number 9 Magic Phantom
