Doomben is where Queensland metro racing heads to this Saturday. The weather is fine, the track is heavy (8) and the rail is in the true position for the entire circuit.

Race 1. (12:18) Become A Brc Member Hcp 1110m
Landed with 4 Mr Bubbaluski (Bet Now: $SP.00) in the opener. Jack Bruce trained three year old that debuted on the Poly at the Gold Coast when tardy away, did work out wide in the run and was entitled to knock up but he kept finding under pressure and was impressive in winning. Maps to get a sweet run and he showed in the trials that wet ground is fine.
1 Defiant Boom (Bet Now: $SP.00) looks to have returned in pretty good order for Stuart Kendrick. Market said he was a good thing when resuming at this track/distance and despite a few nervous moments in the run, class came to the fore and he was much too good in an impressive display. Hard to beat.
3 Herbie Town (Bet Now: $SP.00) is capable. He did more than enough two back over 800m at Ipswich behind Moulin Miss before going to Dalby and 1000m where he gave them a start and a beating, launching late to finish best. He’s returned nicely and should be strong at the end.
Race 2. (12:53) Xxxx Hcp 1110m
1 Barbie’s Sister (Bet Now: $SP.00) has to be given another look. She resumed at Randwick three weeks ago when given a sore back by Tommy so just forgive and forget the return. She has good quality about her and can easily bounce back.
8 Wynette (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a well bred filly that should be better for the debut run, which came at this track/distance where she got off the speed and kept finding the line when third to Defiant Boom. That form, I think, does read well for a race like this and strikes a winnable race.
4 What A Doozy (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a Liam Birchley trained filly that resumes. This girl had a two run Autumn prep where she was good fresh before going to the 3YO Jewel at the Gold Coast when down the track on a surface which was horrible. Trial was solid enough and she does have quality so don’t dismiss her.
Race 3. (13:28) Country Music Raceday 7 September (Bm78) 2200m
6 Redwood Shadow (Bet Now: $SP.00) for me. Team Sears trained gelding that ran at this track/distance two weeks ago where he was jumping from the mile and closed off with purpose, just missing out on the win when second to Glen Massey. He has that 2200m run under the belt now, which should hold him in good stead.
12 Shy Guy (Bet Now: $SP.00) is knocking on the door for Chris Waller. He ran over 2020m here last time here when just off the speed and kept chasing in defeat but found one better in stablemate Counter. He was jumping to that trip from the mile so with that run under the belt, it holds him in good stead here.
2 Toesonthenose (Bet Now: $SP.00) has been up a little while but is holding his form really well for John Sargent and is a knockout hope. He ran two weeks back over 2000m at Rosehill where he just got too far back in the run but his finale was really good late in the piece. He can settle, he’ll be strong late and can win for sure.
Race 4. (14:03) Drinkwise Plate (C3) 1350m
5 Rebel Shadow (Bet Now: $SP.00) is flying for Gary Portelli and should take holding out. Ran two weeks ago at this track/distance, getting back in the run and spotted those in front a start but his finale was very good I thought behind Mintaka Lad. If he can settle closer, he’ll be hard to hold out.
3 Ivan’s Hero (Bet Now: $SP.00) looks ready to win for Chris Waller. This guy ran at this track/distance two weeks ago in a strong Class 6 and he was quite good in defeat from off the speed when second to Rockribbed. Back to a Class 3 and back a fair way in grade/depth, he appeals.
10 Castillian (Bet Now: $SP.00) should love the rise to 1350m for Tony Gollan. He ran over 1200m here a fortnight back where he just got too far out of his ground and spotted them a start but his finale was more than good in defeat behind Mintaka Lad. Fitter and up in trip, he’ll take beating.
Race 5. (14:38) Moreton Hire (Bm78) 1200m
1 Nanagui (Bet Now: $SP.00) has the class/quality to do a number on these. But, she is nearing D-Day. She was second up when racing two weeks ago over 1110m here. She was a bit flat footed and just lacked dash when asked but stayed on and was sound enough behind Brereton. Hard fit and up to 1200m, hard to beat.
4 Miss Middle Park (Bet Now: $SP.00) hasn’t been too bad in a couple of runs for Tony Gollan and is one of the leading chances. She ran behind Brereton a fortnight back. She got into a decent spot in transit and loomed to win but couldn’t quite get there behind the stablemate. Back to Mares grade, she appeals.
2 Heroic Miss (Bet Now: $SP.00) should appreciate a rise in trip for Team Munce. She resumed over 1100m at Ipswich when on speed and tried hard but first up, condition just gave way late behind Majorelle. Good racing style and I think with her best, she can measure up for sure.
Race 6. (15:17) U&U Recruitment (Bm78) 1200m
13 Daytona (Bet Now: $SP.00) is bursting to win for Matty Dunn. He ran here a fortnight back where he just got too far out of his ground but his finale was more than sound in defeat I thought behind Mintaka Lad. If he can settle closer in the run, he’ll take beating I am sure.
9 Mintaka Lad (Bet Now: $SP.00) has been hit and miss throughout his career but last start showed he is Saturday class when right, winning over this track/distance when too good in a strong display. Harder here with more depth but hard to knock the way he won last time.
7 Tuhinga (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a son of Epaulette that resumes for John Thomas. This guy is first up, having not raced since March 16 at Eagle Farm when back off the speed and failed to make up any real headway behind Russian Warrior. He does have a good record at Doomben and can pull out a run fresh, so watch the market.
Race 7. (15:53) Spring Carnival On Sale Now (Bm85) 1350m
8 Atlantic Ocean (Bet Now: $SP.00) can bounce back into the winner list for Chris Waller. He was a few weeks between runs when racing at this track/distance a fortnight back where he got off the speed and while he was never threatening, he kept chasing in a pretty good effort behind Rockribbed. If he can settle closer, he takes beating.
4 Rockribbed (Bet Now: $SP.00) is one of the key threats. Tony Gollan trained gelding that just got the win two weeks ago here, getting the beaut sit in transit and saved all the ground before angling for clear air and finished best, just. He has that 1350m run under the belt and I think with a touch more of a patient steer, he can explode.
3 Rousseau (Bet Now: $SP.00) looks to be in for a good prep. Just staying at 1350m is the slight knock. He resumed at the track/distance three weeks back where he got back off the speed and did make up solid ground in a pleasing return behind Flying Trapeze. He’ll be strong late. Just depends what start he concedes.
Race 8. (16:28) Ladbroke It! Hcp (C6) 1600m
6 Madame Odette (Bet Now: $SP.00) has found winning form for Tony Gollan and she can certainly go on with it now. She won at the track/distance three weeks ago in a Class 3, giving them a start and a beating, producing a brilliant finale from off the speed to score. Her confidence is up and she strikes a winnable race.
14 Thesecondatportsea (Bet Now: $SP.00) is on the seven day back up after racing at the Sunny Coast last Saturday. She got a mile out of her ground but loved the way she found the line late in the piece when a close up fourth to Cunnamulla Falls. Right down in the weights and the back up on wet ground = gold.
Fitter and up to the mile are two big ticks for 3 Wairere Falls (Bet Now: $SP.00), who resumed over 1350m here two weeks back where he got back and made up ground without threatening behind talented animal Rockribbed. Might want one more but the return was encouraging and he has more upside than most.
Race 9. (16:59) Eclipse Brisbane Hcp 1110m
The gate is awful for 10 Goldsborough (Bet Now: $SP.00) but it wasn’t hard to miss his run last Saturday at the Sunny Coast. He should have won but just had zero luck in the straight when trying to get clear air. Good record at Doomben and whilst drawn out, he will get clear air, so with that in mind, he is right in the mix.
15 My Snow Queen (Bet Now: $SP.00) looks so well in at the weights for David Vandyke. She is two weeks between runs since a strong win over 1200m here, leading throughout, getting control and was too good in a strong display. Back in trip no issue, will press forward and take running down.
14 Northern Express (Bet Now: $SP.00) swims so he’s an improver at odds. He resumed over 1050m here two weeks back where he got too far out of his ground and although he made up headway, he was never a threat behind Vodka Martini. He’ll spot them a start but be strong late.
