17/12/2022 Horse Racing Tips and Best Bets – Randwick

A ten race program has been set down for Randwick on Saturday. The weather is fine, the track is good (4) and the rail is out five metres for the entire circuit.

Very intriguing 2YO race. 2 Crucible (Bet Now:  $SP.00) looks a nice colt for James Cummings. He is on debut and I reckon this son of Exosphere can certainly make a winning account at start one. Liked the way he closed off in a trial on the Synthetic here before going to Hawkesbury where he moved well when second, seemingly with plenty in hand. Generally before Christmas, this stable can produce a decent juvenile with an eye towards better races. This guy might be it.

3 Snapback (Bet Now:  $SP.00) will be the most obvious for punters given he has the Snowden/J Mac combo. He has had a couple of trials/preps for start one, the latest seeing him win at Canterbury, and in behind him was Godfather, who bolted up last Saturday in the Phelan Ready. Maps to get a lovely run in transit in the first few and the stable are the go to when it comes to juveniles this season.

6 Dorothy Gail (Bet Now:  $SP.00) creates interest. Capitalist filly on debut for Annabel Neasham and on paper, it was just a trial at Kembla, but I thought she had plenty in the locker and could have won the trial if Schofield gave her a squeeze. Maps soft and is in nicely after the claim, so I’d watch the market and see what it does with her.

10 Southern Appeal (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is the each way bet for me in an open Highway. Backing runners from the Danny Williams camp isn’t usually my play but this guy looks to have come back in good order. Resumed in a Highway at Rosehill over 1100m three weeks ago where he was run off his legs and was never a factor but he was very good late to the line and through it, clocking some fast late splits. Love him up to 1400m and with T Clark aboard, I am thinking they want to have this horse settle closer in the run.

5 Cheap Shot (Bet Now:  $SP.00) should love the rise to 1400m on the bigger track. I was quite keen on his chances last time out at Bathurst but the market said he was legless and ran accordingly, getting back to near last in the run and was never a factor despite making up ground late in the piece. The win first up was very good before a second up syndrome run, so I am anticipating a third up bounce back.

I am convinced that 9 Dark Satin (Bet Now:  $SP.00) has come back in super order. Forgiving of the run a fortnight back at Rosehill given the race tempo was very hot and she struggled with that race shape behind the handy The Dramatist. The two runs prior to start the prep were very good and off those efforts, she is certainly going good enough to take this out in what is a winnable Highway.

4 Dalaalaat (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is sneaky flying for Nathan Doyle and I want to give him another chance. It wasn’t the best of steers from McEvoy two weeks ago at Rosehill but even then, I reckon the end of 1300m just found him out. Back to a fast run 1200m, if he’s within range 400m out, I think he’s certainly going well enough to take this out. Key to him is dry ground and the forecast for the week says he will get that.

1200m is a query when it comes to 5 With Your Blessing (Bet Now:  $SP.00) but John Thompson has got this gelding going quite well. Launched late to win fresh over 900m at Newcastle before going to 1000m at Warwick Farm last Wednesday and was good late between runners when a close up third to Italian Informant. I reckon with a patient steer, 1200m is fine and has upside to give this a shake.

2 Broken Arrows (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is bursting to win a race for David Pfieffer. To the eye, he won two back at Kembla on Gong Day but the photo said otherwise. He then went to Rosehill and was good against the pattern behind Vreneli. His racing pattern isn’t the best but if he is able to settle a touch closer in the run, I think he’s going well enough to be quite dangerous in what is a winnable Midway.

7 Smirk (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is back on track. I thought she was very plain two back at Kembla on Gong Day before going to Rosehill where they rode her cold and got badly held up at a crucial stage before eventually getting clear and finding the line strongly late in the piece behind Zoumon. That tells me she is back on track and with clear air throughout this time around, she can be quite dangerous.

2 Zoumon (Bet Now:  $SP.00) saves his best for 2000m and loves to roll on speed so he has a bit going for him. Led throughout to win at Rosehill two weeks ago and yes, the pattern, was in his corner, but even allowing for that, he was dominant. He trialled well prior to the return and it’s clear he has come back in career best form. Should find the front here and prove hard to get past once again.

13 Oceanic Flash (Bet Now:  $SP.00) might want one more but the return was encouraging. Resumed over 1800m three weeks back at Rosehill where he was zero hope given the race shape/track pattern but I thought very late, he found the line quite nicely. He’s best suited over further, so while 2000m is suitable, he might want one more run and be cherry ripe third up, but I think he’s a must for multiples.

1 Quick Tempo (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a horse I have plenty of time for and confident he can handle the step up to 88 grade. Collett gave him a 12/10 steer at Kembla a few weeks ago, able to get him closer in the run and once that eventuated, he was a moral and duly saluted. Randwick 1000m is okay I think despite his pattern, but hopefully he doesn’t get too far back.

7 Rupertaar (Bet Now:  $SP.00) looks to have returned pretty well. This mare trialled up sharply prior to resuming at Rosehill where she was near the speed throughout and presented to win in the straight under King and while she couldn’t get there, she was close up in defeat behind a handy one, Dehorned Unicorn. Fitter, she’ll take beating at a likely decent price.

2 Invincible Kiss (Bet Now:  $SP.00) will jump on the bunny and give a bold sight. Ran a beauty fresh here behind Key Largo before going to Rosehill where the pattern was in her corner but even allowing for that, she ran a very credible race behind a smart mare in I Am Me. Last bit will test but she has the right racing pattern to give this a shake at a likely decent price. Keep an eye on the track pattern.

Fitter and up to 1400m are two big ticks for 9 Lekvarte (Bet Now:  $SP.00). Joe Pride trained mare that resumed on the Kenso track on a day where it was an up/in pattern, so the fact she came wide, made ground and got close to a win, the run was outstanding and clearly the run of the meeting. Might want one more, but that return was quite good and good enough to suggest she can measure up here.

1 Arnold (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is first up but he has the class/quality to take him a long way. He resumes for Chris Waller after a solid Winter/Spring, where he started favourite in an 88 and was close up in defeat, so the form around him does read very well. Just one soft trial to get ready but lands in a plum spot from the gate and will be strong at the end.

10 Forecaster (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is sneaky flying for Paul Perry and he looks suited up to 1400m. Ran in the Felix Majestic race from two weeks back at Rosehill and the track pattern was clearly against him but didn’t mind the way he found the line late in the piece behind the all the way winner. Good behind Operative the start prior, he’s racing like 1400m will be ideal and this stable can fire when they bring them to town.

6 Spangler (Bet Now:  $SP.00) for me. Very promising galloper for Kris Lees that comes to Saturday metro grade after a big win last time at Canterbury under the lights, launching from near last on the turn to round them up and win, something that is hard to do at that track. He was only second up there so he has room for improvement and I do think getting to the mile on the bigger track should only be beneficial.

17 Naval Seal (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is back to the mile and I think can be dangerous. Hasn’t raced since Gong Day at Kembla where he was ridden stone cold and made up ground but was never a threat behind the then in form Shameonus. Total forgive the start prior and was good in defeat fresh the start prior to that, so I am convinced he is going well and at his best, he is certainly capable of taking this out.

16 Manderboss (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a Joseph/Jones trained gelding that is knocking on the door to win a race in town. He ran over 1500m two weeks back at Rosehill where he was suited by the pattern and ran accordingly when third to Danish Prince, who ran a shocker last night at Canterbury, so how strong is that form? Not sure, but he’s consistent and is genuine. Must for multiples.

3 Amish Boy (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is certainly capable of taking this out. Three weeks between runs since contesting the Kevin Heffernan at Caulfield where he got back off the speed and worked to the line well enough without threatening behind Crosshaven, beaten a couple of lengths. He’s only won the one race, so backing him to win is fraught with danger, but he has the class/quality to carry him a long way.

9 Cotehele (Bet Now:  $SP.00) rates as one of the leading contenders. Thought Avdulla rode him a treat two weeks ago at Rosehill and looked home when the button was pushed but had to settle for a narrow second to the in form Cavalier Charles. The end of 1400m is the query with him but with a more patient steer, I think that will be okay and the stable is starting to find form, and once they do, follow them with confidence.

1 Coal Crusher (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is suited back to 1400m IMO. Joe Pride trained gelding that ran three weeks ago in the Festival at Rosehill and for mine just went too hard on speed, feeling the pinch late behind Dajraan. That form produced the 1-2 of The Ingham last Saturday, which clearly reads well for this, and I think back to 1400m, with more control, he can certainly bounce back into the winners list.

6 On The Lead (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a dry track specialist and he gets conditions to suit here, so purely from a price angle, he’s the each way bet. He was massive in defeat at Rosehill two weeks ago, sitting wide no cover for the trip and was entitled to knock right up but he kept finding the line in a really good effort behind quality mare I Am Me. If he is able to settle closer in the run and not spend too many petrol tickets, he’ll take beating and make sure I Am Me knows it’s a race.

5 I Am Me (Bet Now:  $SP.00) could easily do a number on these, but she’s poison odds. Both starts/wins this time in have come over 1100m at Rosehill, getting the A1 run fresh and beating off an okay horse in Coco Rox before winning a fortnight back where she found the front, the rail, the fast lane, and dominated them. Rosehill 1100m and Randwick are two different beasts, and while she gets J Mac, gate one…just think she’s way too short.

3 Wisdom Of Water (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is likely being set for the Magic Millions but he has good upside and I think has returned in pretty good order. Had the suck run behind the speed at Rosehill last time and battled in a sit/sprint won by I Am Me. I think a more genuine tempo here will help his cause big time and getting to the bigger track, I think he’s a definite improver.

Less said the better re 6 Frumos (Bet Now:  $SP.00) and her return two weeks ago. Simply put, she should have won by 5, but just had zero luck in the straight when full of running and it was just an ugly, ugly watch if you were on. She gets to a bigger track, away from Rosehill and with clear air, I think she’ll do a number on this lot and stamp herself as a Stakes winner of the future, potentially in Gosford in the Belle Of The Turf.

2 Bella Rouge (Bet Now:  $SP.00) looks back on track. Jury was out after a plain effort two back behind Short Shorts before going to Rosehill again and this time she was ridden stone cold, with the end result being a closing fourth to Ruby Tuesday. Off that effort, she does command respect here, and is a proven Saturday metro performer, so she’s good enough to be dangerous against these.

13 Bowery Breeze (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a must include for wider multiples. Caught the eye fresh on Gong Day at Kembla before going to Rosehill where she wasn’t suited by the pattern but was solid to the line behind Ruby Tuesday. Like her up to 1400m and third up from a break, should just about be at peak fitness. Doubt she wins, but she can definitely finish first four at a decent price.
