17/12/2021 Horse Racing Tips and Best Bets – Morphettville

Eight races will be run and won at Morphettville on Friday. The weather is fine, the track is good (4) and the rail is out eight metres from the 1200m-Winning Post; Out four metres for the remainder.

2 Mustari (Bet Now: $3.70) can run a much improved race at odds. Just looked in need of the run fresh behind Addictions then last start, he was awful behind Unlaced, but was found to be lame post race, so there were excuses. Good third up record, his best is certainly good enough.

1 Tradewind (Bet Now: $2.20) is racing well for Ryan Balfour and is nearing a win I feel. Ran over 1400m on the Parks track two weeks back where he had to make a sustained run from off the speed, the run just telling late when third to Annika. Like him up in trip and is just about at peak fitness.

5 Top Fred (Bet Now: $16.00) is an interesting runner. Former Victorian that is having his first run for the Lynch camp. Hasn’t raced since July 24 last year when down the track at Swan Hill. 1600m is on the short side for him, but overall, this isn’t a race blessed with a great amount of depth.

6 Zaratsu (Bet Now: $7.00) for me. Son of Fighting Sun that is on debut. Tricky draw to overcome, but looked to jump out quite well at Oakbank, albeit back in early November, so the break between then and now is a concern. The market will tell you if he’s ready or not here.

5 Leon’s Shout (Bet Now: $6.00) is a son of Holler having his first start. Chris Bieg trained gelding that has had a couple of jumpouts to get ready for his debut, winning the latest one and looked to go about his business alright. This isn’t a strong race, so I think he has to command respect.

8 Arctic Flora (Bet Now: $17.00) is a first four threat. Resumed over 1050m at Balaklava where he was back near last in the small field and while she was never really a winning threat, her finale was okay when third. If the inside gate is used to advantage, she is a first four contender.

7 Race Against Time (Bet Now: $2.10) looks to have found his maiden win. First run in SA came at Gawler last time when getting the suck run behind the speed. Presented to win and looked home, but was nabbed on the peg by Pentwortham. Up to the mile from gate one, he’s one of the better bets on the card.

10 Londres (Bet Now: $3.90) is a Michael Hickmott trained mare that was kept quite safe in betting when debuting over 1400m on the Parks track. She was near the speed throughout and tried hard, but was comfortably held late when third to Sadler’s Song. If she gets luck from the draw, she’ll take beating.

12 Southern Swoop (Bet Now: $23.00) looks like she will eat up 2000m+ with time so not sure I could back her to win here, but I think she’s one for multiples. Ran over 1400m last time out at Murray Bridge and worked home okay late behind Kung Fu Fighting. She’ll be strong at the end.

4 Ultimate Victory (Bet Now: $4.00) looks the safe option. Peter Blanch trained gelding that resumes, having not raced since July 30 on the Parks track here when a narrow second to Champagne Affair. Good fresh record and looks to have jumped out quite well to get ready for his return.

1 Fighting McLaren (Bet Now: $2.25) is a talented animal for Ryan Balfour that resumes. He had a three run prep when last in work and was very sharp, winning two of three and a placing in between. Two jumpouts to get ready have been quite encouraging and maps super from the gate.

3 Magic Delta (Bet Now: $17.00) is an interesting runner. Former Queenslander that is having her first run for Paula Trenwith. Hasn’t raced since Cup Day at the Sunny Coast when down the track. Her overall form does read quite well for this, so watch the market and see what it does with her.

4 Tony’s Reward (Bet Now: $8.00) is worth an each way ticket here. On the quick back up after racing on Sunday at Bordertown. He arguably goes close to winning with proper clear air instead of an unlucky close up fourth, beaten just over a length. If he gets clear air from the outset here, he’ll be hard to hold out.

7 Harbouring (Bet Now: $4.20) is a hard horse to catch but his best is certainly good enough to take this out. Ran over 1300m at Balaklava last time out and worked home strongly from off the speed when second to impressive winner Bignota. He can win, but not sure as a favourite. I’d want a better price.

2 Scarlet River (Bet Now: $8.00) gets in pretty well after the claim and is hard to beat if she can find her best form. Strong winner two back at Gawler before racing there again last time and she failed to fire a shot in a plain effort. This is a weak 54, so she has to go in the numbers.

Fitter and up in trip, this is D-Day for 2 Tatalina (Bet Now: $2.25). Was a month between runs when racing over 1700m at Gawler last time out. Given a peach by Vorster and was there to win, but couldn’t quite get there when a narrow second. Fitter, up to 1800m, Vorster sticks…she wins surely.

3 Ichibansan (Bet Now: $3.20) has that winning feeling, finally…now can he go on with it? It was well and truly D-Day for him at Murray Bridge over 2000m and despite a couple of nervous moments, class came to the fore and he was too sharp. Can he go on with it now? Time will tell.

10 Briabella (Bet Now: $17.00) will put herself on speed and try hard. That was the case at Balaklava last time and she battled on okay in defeat when fourth to Blue Bear, a horse who hadn’t won since Moses parted the sea, so a query on that form, but she has the right racing pattern.

13 Picaroon (Bet Now: $7.00) looks the most progressive of this lot and now she is in winning form, I think she can go on with it. Was a heavily backed odds on pop at Penola last time and justified the short quote with a dominant display. That was over 1400m and I think the rise to the mile looks ideal.

3 Hypercane (Bet Now: $5.50) is a beauty for the Jolly camp. He had to work a bit early to find the front when racing a few weeks ago here but he eventually got control, showed good change up speed and put them away to win impressively. Think he’ll take beating here I think.

6 Unlaced (Bet Now: $8.50) is racing well for Michael Hickmott. Several weeks between runs since giving her rivals a spanking over 1550m on the Parks track, leading throughout and giving her rivals a galloping lesson. Third up here, so should just about be at peak fitness and has the right racing pattern.

Pretty keen here on 2 Bill The Boxer (Bet Now: $2.50). Debuted over 1200m at Dunkeld where he was wide no cover for the trip but despite that, he was trucking and once Maddy Lloyd pushed the button, he showed good change up and was impressive. Off that, confident he can measure up here.

1 Koruto (Bet Now: $3.90) is a talented son of Written Tycoon for Phillip Stokes that resumes. This guy hasn’t raced since June 12 on the Parks track here when a down the track fifth behind a pretty handy horse in Imperial Hilton. Jumped out well to get ready for his return and is nicely after the claim.

7 St Just (Bet Now: $6.00) is a Macdonald/Gluyas trained mare that looks to have returned in good order. Defied a betting drift to record a strong win at Gawler over 1200m, somewhat surprising given she’s better suited over a bit further, so it bodes well for the rest of the prep.

NEXT BEST: Race Three Number 7 Race Against Time

LONG SHOT: Race Seven Number 13 Picaroon
