Nine races will be run and won at Doomben this Saturday. The weather is fine, the track is good (4) and the rail is out two metres for the entire circuit.
Race 1. (13:13) Cole Diesel (bm72) 1050m
1 Sugar Boom (Bet Now: $1.80) looks just about the best placed horse across Australia on Saturday. She has a rating of 80 yet only carries 3kg more than the minimum so all things being equal, think she’s the winner and a good thing. She can produce really good sustained speed from the front and the trial win indicates she’s ready to go.
6 Mort Doyle (Bet Now: $4.60) has to carry the weight but he’s absolutely flying at the moment. He has won three on end, the latest coming over 1050m at Doomben when leading throughout and proving too strong in the run to the line. Likely leads this field up from the gate. Just a little query on him at a really strong 1050m at this level.
7 Skins (Bet Now: $8.50) is a son of Sepoy fir David Vandyke that resumes. This five year old hasn’t raced since August 2019 when his unbeaten sequence came to an end, just missing out on the win when a narrow third to Justify and Frangipani Moon. Has clearly had his issues but stable wouldn’t persist if he wasn’t showing something worth persisting for. Hard to beat I reckon.
Race 2. (13:48) Bore Head Qlty 1350m
1 Mass Destruction (Bet Now: $2.05) is racing really well for the Tony Gollan camp and is unbeaten this time in after winning two weeks ago at Eagle Farm, sitting off the speed before peeling into clear air and in a driving go, finished best to continue his winning ways this time in. This is a weaker race. Just has to contend with the weight rise.
2 Clearance Sale (Bet Now: $2.50) looks the only threat on paper now. Team Guy trained three year old that has put together a couple of wins on the bounce, winning the maiden at Eagle Farm before stepping up to 1400m at the Sunny Coast when on speed and fighting hard to hold on. Back to his own age, goes forward and is hard to beat.
Fitter and up to 1350m are two big ticks for 3 Mishani Epic (Bet Now: $14.00). Resumed over 1200m at Ipswich a tick over two weeks ago when back off the speed and making up decent enough ground late in the piece behind a handy one in Good Chat. Senior jock on and hopefully the inside gate is used to advantage.
Race 3. (14:23) Madison Cleaning Services (c3) 1350m
9 Syncline (Bet Now: $8.50) has to be given another chance. Resumed two weeks ago at Eagle Farm where he was originally hard in the market but blew out big time late and ran accordingly, beating one runner home. He’s better than that and you’d like to think will improve with the run under the belt. Can bounce back for sure.
5 Lubuk (Bet Now: $6.00) is nearing a win for the Waller team. Has had a couple of runs in QLD this prep, firstly here when second to Top Me Up Again before going to the Gold Coast a few weeks ago and was good late, albeit well held when second to impressive winner Express Fantasy. That form clearly reads well for a race like this.
12 Kasita (Bet Now: $8.50) deserves another crack in town. Tony Webb trained mare that gave them an absolute spanking at Ipswich last time out over the 1350m, leading most of the way to win by over six lengths with something in hand, and ran decent enough time too. Her best is good enough to measure up in town. Hopefully she can produce it.
Race 4. (14:58) Specialised Plan M'ment (bm80) 2200m
8 Fields Of Yulong (Bet Now: $7.50) has had a few runs now for the Edmonds camp and I think he’s ready to fire now. Was on him two weeks ago at Eagle Farm and he did try hard, but couldn’t quite get there when second to impressive winner He Runs Away. He’s going well I feel and is more than capable of taking this out.
5 He Runs Away… (Bet Now: $3.30) can he go on with it now? Took him a while to break his run of outs in Australia, but it finally happened two weeks back at Eagle Farm, finishing best under Du Plessis to get a well deserved win and continue a good run that the Waller stable is having in Queensland. Has to be respected again.
2 Morendi (Bet Now: $35.00) has class and that could bring him right into this now he gets to a more suitable trip. 2400m was a stretch for him at Eagle Farm I thought behind He Runs Away so I want to be forgiving of that run. He’s better than that and at his best, he is more than capable of taking this out. Knockout chance.
Race 5. (15:33) Harcourts Ascot R/estate (c6) 1200m
10 Explosive Quality (Bet Now: $3.80) is 2/2 this time in and I think she can make it 3/3. Both runs/wins this prep have come over 1200m at the Sunny Coast, winning her maiden first up before jumping to 62 grade and she was even more impressive, strong through the line. Good test for her here, but I think she’s up to it.
6 The Great Boombino (Bet Now: $7.50) is a knockout chance here. Handy mare that went at a crazy speed at Toowoomba last time out and she was a beaten horse on the turn, dropping out to beat one runner home. That was 1300m, and IMO that trip at that level was a bit much. She’ll be better suited here at 1200m and is a knockout hope.
3 Clockwise (Bet Now: $15.00) is a shout here at a price. Tony Webb trained mare that is three weeks between runs since racing at Toowoomba where she was specked late at a price and looked to get every chance from just behind the speed, finishing 2.6L off Rock Beat, a well performed city class horse. That form reads well for this.
Race 6. (16:23) Clear To Work (bm75) 1600m
12 Nic Nat Nui (Bet Now: $5.00) should be suited up to the mile for the Tony Gollan camp. Odds on first up in a maiden and saluted, just, before stepping up to 1400m at the same track where the ride from Ben Thompson was a beauty. Wide early but slotted in to get cover just behind the speed and the gelding wore them down. Racing like the mile will be ideal and is a leading chance.
5 Prospectus (Bet Now: $4.00) has been up a little while for Chris Waller but continues to race in such a good vein of form. Surprisingly was unwanted in betting late when he ran over the Eagle Farm mile two weeks ago but he was impressive under Luke Dittman, finishing best to win impressively. Hard to beat against this lot.
The rise to 1600m is ideal for 7 Trusty Lad (Bet Now: $6.50). Two runs back from a long spell have come over 1400m, resuming with a strong third at Eagle Farm before going to the Sunny Coast where he raced like he wanted more ground when third. Gets to the mile now and he does have class on his side when at his best.
Race 7. (17:00) Liquor Legends Hcp 1600m
9 Plitvice (Bet Now: $6.50) has got upside to come and I think he can take this out. He was third up at Toowoomba three weeks ago and tried very hard, but the hard fit and in form Junction, who was on his home track, just packed too many punches near the line and was too good, just. He’s got upside and has now found form.
5 Top Prospect (Bet Now: $4.50) is a while between wins but I reckon Kris Lees has him going well. Has had a mini freshen up, having not raced since the Lismore Cup where he looked all over a winner but just found one too good in Tavion Prince, who is an in form stayer. Does no work from the gate and should be strong late.
6 Aqua Vite (Bet Now: $11.00) is suited up to the mile for Scott Morrisey. Been up a while but he’s racing well and I think stepping back up in trip is a big tick. Just found the 1400m at Eagle Farm a bit nippy for him two weeks ago behind The Harrovian. Think he can get control from the front here and prove quite hard to run down.
Race 8. (17:38) Tab Create Your Calendar (rs0mw) 1350m
Bludger of a 0MW race. From gate one, 11 Natural Force (Bet Now: $13.00) does no work, he’s racing well, so he’s on top, but not a race I want to get involved in from a betting perspective. He ran over 1350m at Ipswich last time out and chased strongly throughout, just missing out on the win when a narrow second to Inching Closer. Safe option I think in a tricky race.
10 Great Keppell (Bet Now: $4.40) has been a frustrating gelding to follow for some time, but Brad Stewart was taking no BS with him at the Gold Coast last time out, sending him forward to sit on speed, make sure he was in a race, and it was the winning move. The gelding showed ticker under pressure and was too good, just. Can he repeat the dose?
7 Carry On Ringo (Bet Now: $11.00) is racing in pretty good form at the moment. Close up second to Natural Force at the Sunny Coast two back before finding a weak open handicap at Ballina and he bolted up. He was a few weeks between runs that day, so he’ll come on from that and I think can measure up against these.
Race 9. (18:22) Lexus Hcp (c6) 1200m
8 Dream Master (Bet Now: $7.00) has been given a freshen up for the Edmonds camp, having not raced for four weeks. His last run was at the Gold Coast when wide and doing work, with the early burn just telling late when midfield behind the in form Beaufort Park. Loves racing at Doomben and he’s a good fresh horse. Knockout chance.
9 Fasano (Bet Now: $6.00) is a son of Lonhro for Rob Heathcoate that is three weeks between runs since racing in a Class 6 at Toowoomba. He probably got a pair further back than what Nothdurft would have liked I dare say but overall, thought he had his chance when second to The Tax Accountant. If he can sit closer in the run, he’ll take some holding out.
The market will be fascinating with 1 Awesome Pluck (Bet Now: $7.00), who resumes for the Desleigh Forster team and is having start one for the stable. Formerly with Jenny Graham, he hasn’t raced since the Kosciuszko last year when down the track behind Handle The Truth. Trialled up well enough at Doomben and has a touch of class.
