A nine event meeting has been set down for Eagle Farm on Saturday. The weather is fine, the track is good (4) and the rail is out two metres for the entire circuit.

Race 1. (11:58) Margot Mckinney Well Groomed Plate (C3) 1600m
7 Tenzing (Bet Now: $SP.00) should appreciate the rise to the mile. Tony Gollan trains this former Kiwi, who hasn’t quite set the world on fire since arriving from NZ. He was second up when racing just over two weeks back at Doomben over 1350m when near the speed and battled away well enough in defeat behind Arnaqueur. Got more upside than most and up in trip, he appeals.
12 Bedford Square (Bet Now: $SP.00) should appreciate a rise to the mile for Jack Bruce and is one of the hardest to beat. Last couple of runs have come at 1400m, the latest being two weeks ago here where she worked to the line with real purpose late in the piece when third to Star Of Chaos, beaten 1.6L in a good effort. Crying out for more ground, which she gets here, and the depth is on the thin side.
5 Acrophobic (Bet Now: $SP.00) should appreciate a rise in distance for O’Dea/Hoysted. First run for the stable came in the Arnaqueur race mentioned above where he got a fair way back in the run and while he was never a threat, I didn’t mind the way he finished his race off. Unknown at the mile but does have more upside than most and can settle much closer.
Race 2. (12:33) Spring Carnival On Sale Now (Bm78) 2412m
6 Mighty Willie (Bet Now: $SP.00) has more upside than most and coming off a win here, he’ll do me. Strong winner over 2000m at Doomben last time, getting the suck run behind the speed and was trucking but held up. Thankfully for his fans, he got out in time and finished best. He was only second up there so with room for improvement, he only runs well.
2 Chernak (Bet Now: $SP.00) is flying for Chris Waller and seems to be a leading contender. This gelding is 2/2 since being freshened up, both coming over 2200m here and each time he has been impressive, the latest being two weeks ago when making a sustained run and was too good. 2400m should be fine and with the Waller polish, he appeals big time.
4 Ostermeier (Bet Now: $SP.00) is in with a shout. He ran last Wednesday here over 1800m where he got a mile back and spotted those in front a decent start but loved the way he found the line late in the piece when second to Kokonotsu. Jumps sharply in trip but has more upside than most and is a proven stayer.
Race 3. (13:08) Sky Racing (Bm70) 1400m
2 Smokin’ Toff (Bet Now: $SP.00) looks like she will enjoy life in Queensland. Formerly with David Briedoake in Victoria, she’s now with O’Dea/Hoysted and her first run for the stable was a dominant win a few weeks back over 1350m where she gave them a start and a beating in an impressive display. You’d think she has good improvement to come and should that be the case, she’ll take beating.
11 Simply Refuse (Bet Now: $SP.00) is 2/2 to start her career. Jack Bruce trains this mare, who has won both career outings, both coming at the Sunny Coast and each time has been quite strong to the line in winning. Good test here in a solid Mares race, but you don’t know how good a horse is til they’re beaten. Commands respect.
Stephen Lee had a couple of nice types nominated here but goes with the sole rep in 1 Chickerartie (Bet Now: $SP.00). This mare has won her past two, the latest coming at Ipswich with sustained speed coming to the fore in a dominant display. Good test here, but with her racing pattern and claim, she gets every chance to measure up in town.
Race 4. (13:43) Luke Reynolds Hairdressing (Bm70) 1400m
3 Early Thoughts (Bet Now: $SP.00) should appreciate a rise to 1400m. He ran four weeks back over 1350m at Doomben where he got back off the speed and did chase from a fair way out. He was never a threat, but he found the line well enough I thought behind all the way winner Azzareach. Better set up this time around, so I am not dismissing him.
4 Gaius (Bet Now: $SP.00) is three weeks between runs for Mark Currie since racing at Doomben where he was dragged back to last from the wide gate and tried hard but things didn’t really eventuate for him behind Smokin’ Toff. Think he runs better at Eagle Farm than Doomben so getting to the bigger track here, he appeals big time.
6 Corona Lad (Bet Now: $SP.00) is third up from a spell and should just about be at peak fitness for Team Perks. He did more than enough fresh behind Zarastro before racing three weeks back behind Zarastro where he looked a bit on the flat side after getting back in the run. Hard fit now and up to 1400m, his best is good enough to be dangerous.
Race 5. (14:23) Eureka Stud (Bm85) 1810m
3 Lucky Decision (Bet Now: $SP.00) is dangerous if he is able to settle closer. He ran over 1400m here a fortnight back where he got a fair way back, near last, and just spotted those in front too much head start. He was never a threat but I didn’t mind the way he found the line late in the piece behind Star Of Chaos. Third up, hard fit, can settle closer…dangerous.
8 Aqua Alta (Bet Now: $SP.00) is racing in consistent form for Rex Lipp and rates as one of the hardest to beat. Lovely ride from Du Plessis saw him win two back at Eagle Farm before racing a few weeks back when near the speed throughout and tried his guts out but couldn’t quite finish it off when third to Shopping Esprit, beaten just under two lengths. He’ll be around the mark I am sure.
1 Fifth Position (Bet Now: $SP.00) is having his second run for Tony Gollan. First run came a few weeks back where he seemed to get every chance behind the speed but didn’t quite quicken when asked and just whacked to the line behind Nikau Spur. Better for the run under the belt, he has runs on the board from Melbourne to say he deserves another look.
Race 6. (14:58) Lgt Crestone Cup (Rs0mw) 1200m
Going with the best horse in the race, which I feel is 1 Lord Markel (Bet Now: $SP.00). He resumes for Adam Campton, having not raced since April 1 at Doomben when just off the speed and tried his guts out but he looked a tired horse behind Dune Forty Five. Two trials leading in have been quite strong and is a gun fresh horse. Happy to be in his corner.
4 Le Melody (Bet Now: $SP.00) can easily blow this field away if she brings her best. Just a little while since she has showcased it. She ran last Saturday at Doomben when back in the run and did make up ground but was never really a threat behind Muschialli. That was her first run in a month so with room for improvement, she appeals.
12 Uno Artie (Bet Now: $SP.00) has simply been too good for them up North so he deserves a crack in town. He has won his past two, both coming at Mackay where each time he has given them a start and a beating in dominant displays. He’s a very genuine horse and we’ve seen recently that these runners from up North can measure up at metro level.
Race 7. (15:33) Ridgmont Farm (Bm70) 1000m
10 Venturer (Bet Now: $SP.00) looks to be heading in the right direction for Tony Gollan. Market wanted her with confidence when debuting over this trip at the Sunny Coast and despite drawing wide, doing a bit of work in the run, she was far too good for them in an impressive display. Comes straight to town but I do think she goes pretty good, so keen to see how she goes.
All you can do is win and that is what 6 Borrelli (Bet Now: $SP.00) did on debut at the Sunny Coast, producing sustained speed from the front and gave nothing else a look in to win impressively. More depth here, but good racing style and with weight relief, he’ll give himself every chance I am sure.
2 Rothgo (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a talented three year old for John Thomas that resumes. He did some nice things as a juvenile, highlighted by a win here. Been given a good break and with a sharp trial win last week at Toowoomba under the belt, I think he’s ready to go, but watch the market and that will tell you if he’s ready to go or not.
Race 8. (16:12) Peachester Lodge Hcp (C6) 1000m
3 Hard To Say (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a ripper for Jason Deamer and is a short course specialist so he is suited here. 2/2 this time in, resuming with a Midway win at Rosehill before racing at Doomben three weeks ago, where sustained speed came to the fore, leading throughout in a strong display. Harder here, but with his racing pattern, he’ll give himself every chance.
7 Hold On Honey (Bet Now: $SP.00), I think, is the map horse. He ran at this track/distance a fortnight back when doing work from the wide gate to land on speed and was there to win the race but I just think four weeks between runs, condition gave way behind stablemate Nashira. Good improvement to come, lands in a plum spot from the gate, he only runs well.
1 Osamu (Bet Now: $SP.00) is an interesting runner. Formerly with O’Dea/Hoysted, he resumes for Tony Gollan. His best probably sees him win this race so it’s just a matter of where Gollan has him. Traditionally, he is a good fresh horse, he’s trialled well leading in and with his racing style, he’ll give himself every chance. But, I think watch the market and see what it does.
Race 9. (16:48) Ladbroke It! (Bm85) 1500m
9 Star Of Chaos (Bet Now: $SP.00) will jump on the bunny and prove hard to run down for Tony Gollan. This mare has won her past two, the latest being two weeks ago over 1400m here where she led throughout and credit to her, she was there to be run down, but she found under pressure to fend them off and get the job done. Last bit will test, but she’ll give herself every chance.
6 Eaglemont (Bet Now: $SP.00) is racing in super form for Matty Dunn and rates as one of the hardest to beat. He ran on the home deck at Murrwillumbah in the Cup last start and closed off with purpose from near last when second to Wategos, an in form Sydney horse, so that form clearly reads well for a race like this, and the depth is a bit on the thin side.
5 Canadian Dancer (Bet Now: $SP.00) has to be given another look. She ran three weeks back at the Doomben mile where I thought they rode her too warm in finding the front and she was a beaten horse a fair way out behind Shopping Esprit. Fresh legs, back in trip, back to Eagle Farm and I think ridden with a sit, he can run a much improved race.
