Spring is in the air this Satruday at Rosehill, with The Rosebud (1100m) a kick off point for the three year olds. The weather is fine, the track is heavy (9) and the rail is out a metre for the entire circuit.

Race 1. (11:35) Midway (Bm72) 1500m
8 Convergent (Bet Now: $SP.00) should be better for the first up run in the Midway two weeks ago here. He wasn’t 100% happy on the bog, he ran his race in patches, but wasn’t too bad late in the piece. Fitter, up in trip and hopefully on firmer footing, he’ll take beating against these.
10 Monkhana (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a definite improver after her ripping return a fortnight back in the Midway here. She got off speed and worked home with purpose in a pretty good effort in defeat behind Cold Brew. Fitter and up in trip, she is a leading contender.
1 Be Real (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a Brad Widdup trained mare that resumes. She teased to win races when last in work but just couldn’t quite finish her races off well enough. Better suited over further but don’t mind her at 1500m fresh and her trial work has been more than encoraging.
Race 2. (12:10) Tab Highway Hcp (C3) 1300m
2 Oceans Of Energy (Bet Now: $SP.00) is dangerous here for Matty Dunn after racing at the midweeks at Doomben. She got too far out of her ground and while she was never a winning threat, I liked the way she finished her race off in defeat. Like her up in trip and has good upside to come.
3 Kranich (Bet Now: $SP.00) is racing really well at present for Michael Mulholland and is one of the key chances. He ran over 1400m last start in the Dubbo Cup when on speed and he tried hard but just couldn’t quite see it through when second. Good racing style, handles wet ground, he appeals.
7 Light Infantry (Bet Now: $SP.00) has the engine under the hood to be dangerous. He just found the wet track too ugly in the Highway here two weeks back behind Without Parallel. He got into a reasonable spot in transit and tried hard but just couldn’t pick his feet up. First four threat.
Race 3. (12:45) Asahi Super Dry (Bm72) 1300m
4 Ninja (Bet Now: $SP.00) looks a good mover for Michael Freedman that comes straight to town off the back of a win at Kembla in a maiden where he didn’t beat much but the way he put them away was so impressive. Confident he can measure up against these.
3 Karinska (Bet Now: $SP.00) is an interesting runner. Chris Waller trained filly that resumes after a three run prep in the Autumn as a juvenile, trying to get into the Slipper, but didn’t quite measure up in the lead ins. Given a good break, trial work has been encouraging, watch the market.
7 Wisnierska (Bet Now: $SP.00) is three weeks between runs since racing at Randwick. She got a fair way off the speed but liked the way she finished her race off with purpose when third to Nashville Jack. Like her up to 1300m, should be strong late and strikes a winnable race.
Race 4. (13:20) The Agency Real Estate (Bm78) 1400m
10 Super Norwest (Bet Now: $SP.00) is knocking on the door for Matty Dale. She ran over this track/distance two weeks ago. She lobbed on speed and looked the winner when asked for the effort but couldn’t quite see it through when a narrow second to Sunshine Law. 1400m is fine. Just has to hold her form.
8 Tulleries (Bet Now: $SP.00) is second up but I’d say this is D Day for her as to whether indeed she is Stakes class or not. She resumed at Rosehill where she wasn’t given the best of rides by Sherry but first up, she was ridden quiet. Fitter and up in trip, she can blow these away if she’s right.
3 Gently Rolled (Bet Now: $SP.00) has to be given a look here for Bryce Heys. Totally forgiving of her run a few weeks back back at Randwick behind Extraordinaire when wide throughout and the run just told on her late in the piece. She can bounce back.
Race 5. (13:55) The Rosebud 1100m
I think 5 Pallaton (Bet Now: $SP.00) is the one here to play, resuming for Michael Freedman. He has looked quite sharp in a couple of trials and to me, he seems the short course type of those that resume, whereas some of these likely have eyes on the Golden Rose. Keen to be with him.
1 Skyhook (Bet Now: $SP.00) is the class of the field and class will take him a long way. He hasn’t raced since the Golden Slipper when far from disgraced in defeat behind Marhoona. Just one soft trial for the return but fresh at 1100m means that is fine and maps ideally.
7 Grand Prairie (Bet Now: $SP.00) looks a horse that has an engine under the hood. Loved the way he toughed it out to win fresh on the Kenso before going here two weeks ago where he tried hard but couldn’t quite get there behind Stardeel. Hard fit, fast run 1100m, he appeals.
Race 6. (14:30) Rosehill Bowling Club (Bm78) 1900m
7 Nana’s Wish (Bet Now: $SP.00) steps up to 1900m after racing over 1800m at Randwick a few weeks back. She got into a reasonable spot in transit and tried hard but couldn’t quite get there when third to Investment. Racing well, she commands respect.
14 Amusing (Bet Now: $SP.00) is progressive and heading in the right direction for Chris Waller. Two on the bounce, both coming here and each time has been impressive. Rising to 1900m is fine, hard to beat.
Fitter and up to the 1900m are two big ticks for 6 Solder Of Rome (Bet Now: $SP.00), who resumed several weeks back at Rosehill behind Puntin. He did early work to land on speed and just felt the pinch late in the piece. Might need another, but his best is good enough to give cheek.
Race 7. (15:05) Captivant @ Kia Ora Hcp 1400m
6 Our Gold Hope (Bet Now: $SP.00) looks to be humming for her return. Team Price trained mare that did some really nice things when last in work, her last run seeing her far from disgraced in the Queen Of The Turf. Loved the way she has trialled leading in and hard to beat more so if the inside gate can be used to advantage.
4 Birdman (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a fascinating runner. Chris Waller trained gelding that resumes, potentially with the Cups in mind, and his trial work indicates that the speed in the legs is there to have a fruitful prep. J Mac riding suggests he is the top seed for this race so keen to see how he goes.
7 War Eternal (Bet Now: $SP.00) comes up to 1400m after racing over 1300m here two weeks back. He didn’t seem 100% happy on the bog but he stayed on and was far from disgraced in defeat behind The Novelist when second. Hard fit, he is a knockout hope.
Race 8. (15:45) Precise Air (Bm78) 1400m
10 Captain Furai (Bet Now: $SP.00) looks the most obvious. He resumed here two weeks ago on the very testing track and he tried his guts out but first up on the bog, condition just gave way when second to Elson Boy. Fitter, firmer deck, J Mac on, keen.
5 Puntin (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a threat. He attempted to lead throughout three weeks back at Randwick and was trucking in front but when asked for the effort, the wheels were spinning. Hopefully on a firmer deck here, good racing style, he’s a threat for sure.
16 Starman (Bet Now: $SP.00) is knocking on the door for Chris Waller. He ran second three weeks back at Randwick, chasing strongly from off speed but had to settle for a narrow second to Lugh. One for exotics here from the gate.
Race 9. (16:20) Tab (Bm78) 1100m
7 Polyglot (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a Michael Freedman trained gelding that resumes, formerly with James Cummings. He looks a decent shirt course type and his trial work to get ready suggests he is here to play so watch betting.
8 Regimental Colours (Bet Now: $SP.00) has a few loose screws upstairs but she has an engine under the hood. She was a strong winner at Randwick three weeks ago, knuckling down with purpose late to score and score well. Harder here but confident she measures up.
5 Catch The Glory (Bet Now: $SP.00) is one of the key chances with her best. Both runs back from a spell have come here, just finding them a bit sharp first up before a good effort two weeks back here when closing off and was solid in defeat when second to Ravenclaw. Third up, hard fit, he appeals.
Race 10. (16:55) Petaluma (Bm94) 1200m
I like the look of 10 Bunker Hut (Bet Now: $SP.00), who resumed over 1200m here a few weeks back. He did early work to land on speed and tried his guts out but couldn’t quite get there when fourth to Cloudland, condition just giving way. Better set up here, he appeals.
6 Cloudland (Bet Now: $SP.00) is third up from a spell and should be at peak fitness. Good first up win before a total forgive last start when wide no cover throughout and just knocked up late. Better run in transit, he can win.
4 Elletrica (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a Team Freedman trained mare that resumes. She is first up and while she is better suited over further, she has a touch of quality about her and doesn’t mind rain affected ground so watch betting.
