16/8/2025 Horse Racing Tips and Best Bets – Doomben

4 Dracena (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is flying for Troy Pascoe and is hard to beat after being 2/2 this time in, bolting up fresh at the Sunny Coast before a narrow but strong win over this track/distance three weeks ago. Good test here, especially from the gate, but she’s flying.

1 Sizzling Gal (Bet Now:  $SP.00) has to be given serious respect after her third in the Coffs Harbour Cup. She appreciated a hectic tempo after settling back and closed off really well late in the piece despite being beaten nearly eight lengths. That form does read well for a race like this.

3 Aolani (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is two weeks between runs for Darren Bell since racing over the mile at Eagle Farm when on speed and she tried hard but just couldn’t quite see it through when a narrow third to Redzoust. Good racing style, in well after the claim, she commands respect.

3 Age Of Kings (Bet Now:  $SP.00) will be heading further North if he can’t put this lot away. He was brought down under for the Golden Eagle but he has done nothing since arriving down under. That said, this is comfortably the easiest race he will contest and a tick over trial was quite good. He should be too good for these.

6 El Pensador (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is two weeks between runs after racing over 1800m at Eagle Farm. He just got too far out of his ground and while he was never a winning threat, he kept chasing and was pretty good late in the piece. If he can be within range, he has the finale to take this out.

4 Tapiledoodledo (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a stayer who will make sure this is a truly run 2000m contest. He comes through the Grafton Cup when outclassed on paper but was far from disgraced in defeat behind Don Diego De Vega. He can press forward and give cheek.

10 Surprise Honey (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a few weeks between runs for Matty Dunn since racing over 1000m at Eagle Farm. She got into a decent spot in transit and did try hard but had to settle for a second to Fragile Love. Fitter, proven track/distance performer, she rates highly.

7 Bright Blonde (Bet Now:  $SP.00) comes here as a last start track/distance winner, getting the right run in transit just off the speed before angling clear and knuckled down with purpose late to wear them down and score. Maps ideally again, key threat.

1 Alectrona (Bet Now:  $SP.00) should appreciate a rise to 1200m after resuming two weeks back at Eagle Farm over 1000m where she just found them a bit sharp but her finale was more than sound. Fitter and up in trip, she commands respect despite the tricky draw.

Like 1 Overrding (Bet Now:  $SP.00) here for Nathan Doyle. She resumes, having not raced since March 20 when far from disgraced in a Provincial Championship Qualifier at Newcastle. Good fresh mare and her trial work to get ready has been encouraging.

5 Simply Amazing (Bet Now:  $SP.00) comes here off a mini frehsen up for Desleigh Forster, off the back of three wins, the latest being at Doomben on July 30 when handling the shifty track and knuckled down with purpose. Good test here, but think she measures up.

8 Ocean Zar (Bet Now:  $SP.00) should be better for the first up run, which came over 1200m at Eagle Farm two weeks back. She got off speed and kept chasing with purpose in a pretty good return behind Give Giggles. Fitter and up in trip, she only runs well.

5 Idyllic Affair (Bet Now:  $SP.00) looks a good mover for Michael Freedman and keen to see her resume. She hasn’t raced since Feb 1 here when knuckling down with purpose late to wear them down and get the win. Given a good break, trialled well and fresh at 1350m, to me, signals intent.

4 Go Maro (Bet Now:  $SP.00) comes to town for Kevin Kemp after an all the way triumph at the Sunny Coast. Credit to him, he was there to be beaten, but he found under pressure to fend them off and score. Good racing style, he’s found winning form, he appeals.

9 Lonesome Soul (Bet Now:  $SP.00) should be better for the first up run, which came over this trip at Ipswich. He got off speed and kept chasing with purpose but couldn’t quite get there when a close up fourth. He’ll be strong late, just depends how much start he concedes.

13 Spywire (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is suited at this level and has a good racing style. He ran a few weeks back over 1200m at Rosehill when ridden with a sit and he tried hard but had to settle for a third to Yoshinobu. I think ridden with more intent, he’ll be far more dangerous.

15 Theblade (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a son of Toronado that resumes for Team Hawkes. He resumes, having not raced since Feb 22 behind Boston Rocks in his lone run for the prep. He got back, held up and did make ground but was never really a threat. Loved the way he trucked in a recent trial win at Rosehill, watch betting.

9 Joppa Lane (Bet Now:  $SP.00) comes to town for Matty Hoysted off the back of a win at Ipswich where he gave them a start and a beating, getting better as the race went on. Incredibly strong Class 3 he has found so I say he’s one for exotics.

3 All That Pizzazz (Bet Now:  $SP.00) each way for me. Tony Gollan trained gelding that ran three weeks ago here on testing ground and just struggled to pick his feet up late in the piece. Like him back on a firmer deck and Ben Thompson is riding in super form.

2 Nettuno (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a key threat. He ran second to Goldsborough in the race mentioned above from three weeks back here. He got into a decent spot in transit and tried hard but just couldn’t quite get there. Knocking on the door, he commands respect.

9 Naval Trader (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a Matty Hoysted trained gelding that resumes. He is first up, having not raced since May 17 over 1350m here when finding testing ground and just couldn’t quite pick up his feet. He is a horse who can sprint well fresh and has trialled nicely.

3 Brereton (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is bursting to win. His last couple of runs have come over 1000m at Eagle Farm. Latest run came two weeks ago where he looked the winner when presented but just found one better in surprise winner Golden Decade. Like him up in trip, he takes beating.

2 Fleetwood (Bet Now:  $SP.00) comes back to 1110m after racing over 1200m a few weeks ago when just off the speed and kept chasing with purpose in a good effort in defeat behind Cloudland. Like him back to a fast run 1110m and he can finish over the top.

9 Defiant Spirit (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is third up from a spell and should just about be at peak fitness. He ran behind Bullion Boy a few weeks back where he seemingly had every chance in transit but just whacked in the run to the line. First four contender.

7 High Blue Sea (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is capable with his best. He is a few weeks between runs since racing at Randwick when off speed and just battled in the run to the line behid Getafix but I will say I don’t think the track pattern was in his corner. Improver at odds.

8 Little Beginnings (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a Kris Lees trained gelding that resumes. He is first up, having not raced since April 2 at Warwick Farm when off speed and kept chasing with purpose in a pretty good effort in defeat. Spelled, and his trial work in NSW has been very good, so keen to see how he goes.

2 Battlefield (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a Barry Lockwood trained gelding that resumes. He didn’t really fire a shot when last in work and hasn’t been seen at the trials since July, but the engine is there and his best would beat these.

LONG SHOT: Race Seven Number 3 All That Pizzazz
