Race 1. (11:48) Moreton Hire (C6) 1350m
4 Cosmo Centaurus (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a beauty for Rob Heathcoate. Loved the way he knuckled down to win two weeks ago, finding plenty under pressure to fend them off and score in pretty impressive fashion. Good test here but think he can measure up.
7 True To Form (Bet Now: $SP.00) is hard to beat I feel. He’s racing really well at present for Kris Lees, the latest run seeing him finish second to Ten Deep a few weeks ago at Eagle Farm when on speed and tried hard but had no answers for the mare. Racing well and seems the straight bat play.
6 Viminele (Bet Now: $SP.00) ran down the track behind Cosmo Centaurus several weeks ago at Eagle Farm. He got off speed and was solid late without threatening. Tick over trial was pretty good and rising to 1350m, fitter, he clearly appeals.
Race 2. (12:23) Drinkwise (85) 1600m
11 Perfect Play (Bet Now: $SP.00) should be better for the first up run, which was behind Nodachi at Eagle Farm. He landed in a decent spot in transit and tried hard but first up, condition just gave way late. Fitter, firmer deck, he can run an improved race.
12 Eclair Awesome (Bet Now: $SP.00) is racing really well at present for Jack Bruce and commands respect. She ran over the mile at Eagle Farm three weeks ago when off speed and kept chasing with purpose in a good effort in defeat behind Nodachi. Leading contender in a race like this.
13 Diamond Epic (Bet Now: $SP.00) ran behind Nodachi as well. She was first up and back near last in the run. She was never a winning threat but liked the way she kept chasing in defeat behind Nodachi. Fitter, can settle closer, dangerous.
Race 3. (12:58) Xxxx 3Yo Plate 1350m
1 Burma Star (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a very talented Godolphin galloper who needs to command a lot of respect in this. He was very good in the Hawkesbury Guineas last start and should improve from that run. He needs some luck from the barrier but if he gets it he should be winning.
3 Fabulantes (Bet Now: $SP.00) comes back to 1350m after racing over 1400m a few weeks ago in the Daybreak Lover, settling near last and did make up ground but was never really threatening behind Brave Monarch. Form reads well and he will be launching late.
13 Smexy (Bet Now: $SP.00) comes back to 1350m after racing over the mile in the Princess Stakes where she tried hard but just didn’t quite run out the mile on the testing track behind Spicy Lu. Back in trip, her best is good enough to be dangerous.
Race 4. (13:33) Spirit Of Boom Classic (G2) 1200m
No value in the price but it’s not a secret that I am Seat 1A of the 3 Vantorix (Bet Now: $SP.00) fan club. 2/2 to start his career and each time he has won, he has been quite raw and new but has just been too good. The trip away could do him the world of good re mentally maturing, his trial last week was outstanding and the stable finds J Mac.
13 The Autumn Affair (Bet Now: $SP.00) looks very much a JJ Atkins horse so keen to see her here. She should have won two back in the 2YO Jewel but had no luck. Freshened and went to the Calaway Gal a few weeks ago where she found them a bit sharp but kept chasing and finding the line. Likely gets back but will motor late.
11 Esperanza (Bet Now: $SP.00) was kept safe in betting when resuming in the Calaway Gal a few weeks back. She got back in the run and for mine, I am not sure she was 100% happy on the shifty track. Firmer deck here, she can run a much improved race.
Race 5. (14:08) Bernborough Qlty (L) 1600m
5 Victoria Road (Bet Now: $SP.00) is in a purple patch for Ciaron Maher and is one of the hardest to beat. He ran three weeks ago in the Brisbane Handicap when just off speed and tried hard but just lacked the killer blow to get the win when third to Kronenbourg. Racing really well and commands respect.
8 Cote Atlantique (Bet Now: $SP.00) comes through the Brisbane Handicap three weeks ago. He was ridden with intent, settling closer and was there to win but just couldn’t quite reel in Kronenbourg. I think with a more patient steer, he can bounce back.
17 Demon Darb (Bet Now: $SP.00) was horrendous in the Brisbane Handicap three weeks back but the run had excuses. He was back near last, the track was testing, and he didn’t seem 100% happy in the conditions. Firmer deck, he can run an improved race.
Race 6. (14:43) Magic Millions Bright Shadow Qlty (L) 1110m
2 The Black Cloud (Bet Now: $SP.00) has been given a mini freshen up since The Galaxy when running 9/12 but was beaten just over a length. Looks better suited at this level for mine and the tick over trial was good so keen to see how she goes.
3 Austmarr (Bet Now: $SP.00) was far from disgraced in the Hawksebury Gold Rush. She lobbed into a decent spot just off the pace and tried hard but couldn’t quite get there. Lands in a beaut spot here and gets Purton aboard.
10 Give Giggles (Bet Now: $SP.00) appeals. Tony Gollan trained mare that won three weeks ago at Eagle Farm over 1000m, sitting off speed before coming with a well timed run and finished best to score. The extra 110m is fine, has run well at Stakes grade before, she is hard to beat.
Race 7. (15:22) Jra Chairman's Qlty Hcp (G3) 2000m
Very keen to be with 2 Middle Earth (Bet Now: $SP.00). Class factor, by a long way, and his Hawkesbury Cup run in the quicksand with the big weight…I think he’s flying and getting to Brisbane, trip away, 2000m, he’ll take a power of beating.
11 Belvedere Boys (Bet Now: $SP.00) looks to be sneaky flying for Matty Dunn. He ran over 1800m at Eagle Farm, getting back to near last in the run and made up good ground in defeat I thought behind So You Are. Getting towards peak fitness and 2000m, he appeals big time.
9 Walsh Bay (Bet Now: $SP.00) steps up to 2000m after racing three weeks back in the Brisbane Handicap. She got off speed and kept chasing without threatening against the pattern behind Kronenbourg. Like her up to 2000m, she’s dangerous.
Race 8. (16:02) Doomben 10,000 (G1) 1200m
I’ve been on 18 Napoleonic (Bet Now: $SP.00) for a few weeks and won’t be dropping off. He has been kept on ice, and this is purely chips in to get the Group l hence why he has been freshened up, trialled super and gets J Mac aboard. I don’t think he runs 1400m so 1200m here, will press forward, clear intent, he’ll get every chance to break the Group l tag.
Very interested in 1 Jimmysstar (Bet Now: $SP.00). He last ran in the All Aged where he ran out of his skin given the race pattern behind Beiwacht. 1200m is on the short side, not sure Doomben will suit but class is going to carry him a long way.
8 Warnie (Bet Now: $SP.00) looks to be ticking along nicely. He resumed two weeks back in the Victory Stakes and worked home with purpose against the pattern behind Splash Back. Likely will spot them a start again but will motor late and a win wouldn’t shock.
Race 9. (16:38) Rough Habit Plate 2000m
I like 16 Solid Gold (Bet Now: $SP.00). It was reported she was going to The Roses but instead runs here en route to the Oaks. She gets the 2kg swing being a filly and I think she is a massive price given she has versatility re racing style, Single Red ran well on the weekend to frank the NZ form and she looks a filly with enormous upside/progression.
Very wary of 8 Accidental Bid (Bet Now: $SP.00). He was going to be a short priced favourite in the SA Derby but he couldn’t get a start being first emergency so Plan B is here en route to the Queensland Derby. He is a quality horse who has done little wrong this time in…whether there is intent here, not sure, but he commands respect.
7 Defendant (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a very consistant galloper who may lack a tad of class against some of the other horses in this field but from a good barrier I think he will be right in the mix. Should be able to get the run of the race and if some of the more fancied horses don’t fire a win for him won’t surprise.
