The race that is all about ruffling feathers, The Everest, will come around this Saturday at Randwick and the $15 Million 1200m contest highlights a fabulous ten race card. The weather is fine, the track is soft (7) and the rail is in the true position for the entire circuit.
The Everest 🏆: View the Field and Odds for The Everest
Race 1. (12:30) Fujitsu General (bm78) 1400m
3 Cuban Royale (Bet Now: $7.00 TOP ODDS) deserves a win. He’s racing really well at the moment for Team Price but can’t quite crack it. Loomed to win the Midway a few weeks back and was there to win, but Barossa Rosa too good, just. Been up forever it seems, but gee he’s racing well and is knocking on the door to win again.
2 Ventura Ocean (Bet Now: $8.00 TOP ODDS) can bounce back here if he produces something near his best. Got a fair way back off the speed at Rosehill three weeks ago and was solid late behind Ellsberg, who ran well in the Silver Eagle last Saturday, so the form reads well and gets run of the race from the draw.
6 New King (Bet Now: $34.00 TOP ODDS) is a very interesting runner. Matty Dale trained gelding that resumes, having not raced for over 12 months, his last run being October 3 last year behind Laure Me In. Just one soft trial to get ready, but he has shown he has got city class talent to figure if he’s ready.
Race 2. (13:05) The Star Mile 1600m
8 New Arrangement (Bet Now: $4.00 TOP ODDS) is a Chris Waller trained gelding who has been up a little while but continues to race at a pretty good level. Ran over this track/distance a few weeks back and was good late from off the speed when fourth to Kiss The Bride. Knocking on the door to win one and gets another good chance here.
5 Kiss The Bride (Bet Now: $6.00 TOP ODDS) can bounce back. Last couple of runs have come at this track/distance. Bolted up two back before racing here a fortnight back when on speed again and fought on okay but had every chance behind Wairere Falls. If he gets a soft time of it in front, he can bounce back for sure.
Would not shock me if 7 Blue Soldier (Bet Now: $18.00 TOP ODDS) is backed with confidence and wins. Annabel Neasham did that earlier in the year with anopther import, Olmedo, and she’s looking to do it again with this European, who was good in defeat last time out in the Rowley Mile at Hawkesbury. That form reads strong, lands on speed, he’ll take beating.
Race 3. (13:40) Tab Highway Hcp (c3) 1100m
2 Ahead Start (Bet Now: $2.80 TOP ODDS) is a son of Dream Ahead for Danny Williams that has been kept on ice since resuming in a Highway here when second to Leo, who of course came out and bolted up last Saturday, so the form reads super for a race like this and the tick over trial was a nice piece of work. Primed to run well.
Jenny Duggan has been riding super in town when she gets a chance and she certainly has a good ride here in 1 Golden Gorge (Bet Now: $13.00 TOP ODDS), who resumes for Kody Nestor. This guy hasn’t raced since Hawkesbury Guineas Day when winning the Highway at that meeting when heavily backed earlier in the week. Just one soft 800m trial to get ready but does bring the class factor and gets in well after the claim.
5 Bellastar (Bet Now: $34.00 TOP ODDS) is a quality mare that resumes. Was formerly with the Wilkes camp at Taree, but is now with Colt Prosser, no stranger to Highway success. First up last prep, this mare ran second in a Highway to Ahead Start, so she can measure up here for sure. Watch the market.
Race 4. (14:15) Reginald Allen Quality 1400m
To my eye, 5 Fangirl (Bet Now: $3.30 TOP ODDS) had Oaks written all over her, but she is a filly with enormous upside and class I feel. It wasn’t a strong field she beat up last start in a Goulburn maiden, but the arrogance of the win and how she charged through the line really impressed me. IMO, she would have been a perfect Thousand Guineas/Oaks filly, but she’s going to take beating here.
3 Hoover Lucy (Bet Now: $7.50 TOP ODDS) had taken a little while to get win one on the board, but it came at Warwick Farm. He had a suck run behind the speed and once J Mac pushed the button, away she went and she was dominant. Now she has a win on the board, her confidence is up and she could go on with it.
2 Picarones (Bet Now: $11.00 TOP ODDS) can bounce back here for James Cummings. Ridden cold and was good late two back down the straight at Flemington. Then went to the Jim Moloney where they rode her warm and I think it somewhat backfired. Back to cold tactics, she can bounce back for sure.
Race 5. (14:50) The Kosciuszko 1200m
7 Edit (Bet Now: $5.50) could just blow this field away. Cody Morgan said prior to the resumption at Tamworth that the horse would improve big time with the run. That speaks volumes of what he could do here because he smashed them at Tamworth and in doing so ran sizzling time. Fast run 1200m looks ideal, he’s got enormous upside to come and will be strong at the end. He’ll do me in a very open race.
1 Handle The Truth (Bet Now: $5.00) is the proven performer against this lot, he has class and class will carry him a long way. He has run in Everest lead ups to get ready for this assignment and while he has been outclassed, clearly, he has been far from disgraced. Back to racing against country horses, he’ll take a power of beating.
14 Sunrise Ruby (Bet Now: $11.00) is a ripping mare for Mitch Beer that has been kept on ice for this. Hasn’t raced since giving them a spanking in a Highway here, sitting off the good speed before slicing her way through the field and she charged clear at the end. Gets a good set up for her suitable racing style and is a knockout chance.
Race 6. (15:25) Sydney Stakes 1200m
5 Big Parade (Bet Now: $3.20) is hit and miss but I do feel his best is good enough to be in the mix. Lumped the big weight and was tardy to begin with two weeks ago, so his chances looked gone, but he ended up trucking behind the speed and showed a good turn of foot to get the job done. Interesting to see how he goes at WFA, but he has a good racing style.
3 Standout (Bet Now: $8.00) is a talented animal for the Ryan/Alexiou camp that resumed in the Premiere and for a few strides, he looked the winner when presented, but couldn’t quite finish it off and had to settle for second to Masked Crusader. He wants a dry track, so the weather will be crucial to how strong his chances are.
7 Rocketing By (Bet Now: $20.00) is in with a shout here if he gets luck from the draw. Matty Dunn trained gelding that resumed in the Big Parade race mentioned above, settling back in the run and was never really a winning threat, but his finale was more than sound. If he gets luck from the gate, he’ll be hard to hold out.
Race 7. (16:15) The Everest 1200m
As this race has got closer, I warm more and more to 2 Classique Legend (Bet Now: $5.50). Yes, he’s first up, which is a tough ask into a high pressure race like this, but the facts are he won this race last year and only has to run up to that level to win again. I was worried after the first trial, Les Bridge was as well, but his two trials since have indicated he’s back, and back in a big way. Ideally, I’d love close to double figures to find out given the set up, but Les knows what he’s doing with his star horse.
6 Masked Crusader (Bet Now: $10.00) has a horrible racing pattern, but if Eduardo and Nature Strip declare each other on, it could set it up for Masked Crusader to launch late. That is what he did when taking out the Premiere, getting a dream split between runners and driving hard to win. He has the talent to measure up to these. Just doesn’t want to be a mile back.
The only way 10 Lost And Running (Bet Now: $46.00) was going to be considered was if he drew a soft gate and voila, he has gate two. He’s had no luck in two runs back from a break but that will all change here with the gate to do no work behind the speed and go back to the Autumn, he did run times of a Group l horse. Must for exotics.
Race 8. (16:50) Craven Plate 2000m
1 Think It Over (Bet Now: $1.80) is a query at a brutal 2000m, but a soft 2000m, he wins again, so the tempo will be crucial to his chances. That race shape was the case in the Hill Stakes two weeks ago and that, plus Nash lifting him late, was the main factors for him getting the job done. Hard to beat.
2 Shared Ambition (Bet Now: $4.00) races best when leading, so he gets another good chance to break through. Looked like that would be the case last start in the Hill Stakes but just found Think It Over too good, just. If he gets a cheap lead and get a decent head start on Think It Over, he can turn the tables.
12 Bargain (Bet Now: $15.00) will love getting her toe in. She ran last Saturday in the Angst and had no luck at all. She should have been right finish and the 9/13 in the form guide doesn’t do justice as to her run. Has run well on the back up before and the scratchings have left this race wide open I’d suggest, so she’s a winning threat.
Race 9. (17:30) St Leger Stakes 2600m
This looks a real target race for 13 Purrfect Deal (Bet Now: $9.50). Grafton Cup winner who had a mini freshen up after that. Close up third to London Banker before going to the Gold Coast where she lumped 62kg and was very good in defeat when third to Navy Cross. Hard fit, 2600m, weight relief, she’ll take beating.
9 Luncies (Bet Now: $8.00) is still a bit loose upstairs but no doubting he has a decent engine under the hood. His Metropolitan effort was full of merit from the back in a good effort behind Montefilia. Whether it’s too soon this prep for him and he’ll be better in the Autumn, I say yes, but not letting him go through to the keeper.
8 Carif (Bet Now: $9.50) is getting fitter and out to a more suitable trip, an improved showing is on the cards. He did run last in the Hill Stakes, but his finale was more than sound and the run had merit to it behind Think It Over. Trying to force his way into the Melbourne Cup, so would need to be running well here.
Race 10. (18:10) Heineken 3 (bm78) 1400m
8 Promise Of Success (Bet Now: $4.50) is quite a promising mare for John O’Shea. Both runs this time in have come on the Kenso track. Bolted up fresh and then last time just lost sight of the compass but was quite good late when second to Head Legislator. Third up, hard fit, she’ll take beating.
3 Suave (Bet Now: $6.00) has returned in good order for James Cummings. Good return fresh behind High Supremacy. He then went to Warwick Farm where he took an eternity to wind up but eventually did, surged hard and got there, just. Does he want a mile? Not sure, but has to be respected as a last start winner.
1 Equation (Bet Now: $3.30) deserves another chance. On the seven day back up for Annabel Neasham after racing last Saturday in the Silver Eagle. Not much went his way in a messy race and should have finished closer behind Aim. Needs to win this to be any chance of getting into the Golden Eagle, and with the claim, he’s well in.
