Race 1. (13:00) Preston Rowe Patterson (bm90) 1500m
1 Jesta Dreama (Bet Now: $5.00) is a beauty for Wendy Kelly and he showed last time out when winning at Sandown that he can carry weight successfully. Lumped 63.5kg to win under Duric and was strong to the line in winning. Drops 1kg and overall, I don’t think this race is much harder.
9 Electric Belle (Bet Now: $8.50) hasn’t won in a long time but is knocking on the door. Comes through the Jesta Dreama race mentioned above when getting the suck run behind the speed and was there to threaten but couldn’t quite finish the race off when third. Williams remains on and is a key threat.
7 Unfair Dismissal (Bet Now: $9.00) is dangerous from an inside gate. He ran third in the Jesta Dreama race from Sandown and I really liked the way he finished his race off from beyond midfield. From gate one, he can settle much closer in the run and I think appeals in a race like this.
Race 2. (13:35) Ralcon Homes Trainers Fnl-bm70 1200m
3 Blood Oath (Bet Now: $5.00) was scratched from Pakenham on Thursday night to saved for this. Resumed over 1200m on Bairnsdale Cup Day when on speed and looked to be going well, but when it came to crunch time, he just lacked the change up speed and tired the last little bit for third. Fitter, drawn well with C Williams, he’s in the mix.
6 Grey Whisper (Bet Now: $6.00) is a mare with talent for Ben Brisbourne. Just got a mile out of her ground at Benalla last time but she finished off her race with purpose when fourth to Vici. As good as Hannah Edgley is riding, it’s a significant upgrade with Damian Lane steering and if the mare can sit closer in the run, she’ll take beating.
14 Unique Bambino (Bet Now: $26.00) can be dangerous at odds. Ran on Bairnsdale Cup Day where she just got slightly held up at a crucial stage but in the end, had her chance when second to Realeza. Significant jockey upgrade with D Oliver taking over, drawn to get good cover and launch late.
Race 3. (14:10) Country Oaks 2200m
6 Rapid Achiever (Bet Now: $2.20) is a mare that is racing in good form. Maher/Eustace put the polish on this girl, who ran over 1800m at Sandown last start. She was there to win, but I just think she couldn’t sustain the run when held late by Austrata. Fitter and up in trip, she appeals.
9 Star Of Eden (Bet Now: $4.80) has to be hard to beat here. Ridden upside down I thought at Flemington several weeks ago when attempting to lead throughout over 2000m but credit to her, she ran a super race and it took a star in Yonce to knock her off, with five lengths back to third. If she brings that here, she is a key threat.
4 Obedience (Bet Now: $12.00) gets J Kah from a soft draw and is in the mix. Strong winner two back at Sandown before going to Flemington over 2500m where the trip just found her out behind Blandford Lad. Like her slightly back in trip and drawn well, she’s a leading contender.
Race 4. (14:45) Trfm Good Fri. Appeal Cup-bm64 2200m
5 Murrumbidgee River (Bet Now: $4.20) should love the rise in trip for the Maher/Eustace camp. Resumed over the mile at Ballarat where the market took a set against him and it was proven correct. He got back in the run and did make ground but was never threatening at any stage. John Allen rides, up in trip for the leading camp, he’ll do me.
7 Thought Provoking (Bet Now: $3.70) is a Price/Kent mare that should relish the rise in trip. Just got held up at Cranbourne last start and she couldn’t get a chance to build up proper momentum whereas the eventual winner did. She stuck on and was good in defeat, racing like she wants further, and she gets that here.
9 Goondiwindi (Bet Now: $11.00) is a horse with upside. Danny O’Brien trained gelding that resumed under the lights at Pakenham where he just lacked the change up speed but was good to the line and through it, racing like he wanted more ground. Stable is flying, so he commands respect.
Race 5. (15:20) Powered Sol. Up And Comers-c3 1717m
4 Worthily (Bet Now: $6.00) could be a good thing here. Market will be fascinating. Quality animal for the Maher/Eustace camp that resumes after a strong opening prep down under, his last start being a win over 1800m here. He contested a jumpout at Cranbourne alongside Flash Aah and IMO, he went far better than Flash Aah. If he’s ready to go, he wins.
5 Baretta (Bet Now: $3.30) is an exciting prospect for Team Hayes. Has only had two career outings, winning on debut at Navan in Ireland. Sent to the Hayes camp, made the Australian debut at Pakenham and loved the way knuckled down late to get the win. Heading in the right direction and should eat up the extra trip.
7 Water Into Wine (Bet Now: $7.00) is a handy three year old for Team McEvoy that looked a potential Derby prospect in SA. Beat up an average lot at Gawler last time but it was the manner in which he put them away that impressed me, making a real mess of them when stepping up in trip. He’s in the mix.
Race 6. (15:55) The Country Discovery 1100m
4 Brooklyn Hustle (Bet Now: $5.00) is a very hard mare to follow and trust given her racing pattern but if they can run on from the back, she’s certainly in the game. Can make a case that she should have gone close in The Galaxy. Got back near last in the run and worked home strongly despite not having the best of luck in the straight. Back to this grade, which I think is ideal for her, she’ll be strong at the end.
11 In The Boat (Bet Now: $4.80) is such a genuine animal for Lindsey Smith and the fact he is genuine takes away the concern that this could be a prep run for the Wangoom for Warrnambool. It could well be that, but he has the right racing pattern and endeavour to take care of that query. Dominant win in the Abell and he’ll give a mighty sight here.
2 The Inferno (Bet Now: $6.50) could be a moral here if he’s ready to go. Has been kept on ice, having not raced since the Lightning where he had zero luck and was a clear forgive behind Home Affairs. Was prepped for a William Reid assault but was scratched for this, and his best is clearly good enough.
Race 7. (16:30) Dysons Group (bm64) 1100m
16 Ojosan (Bet Now: $5.50) is the one with good upside and with normal luck, she’ll take beating. She did get luck at Ballarat last time, but it was all bad. She should have won but couldn’t get clear air until it was all over in an ugly watch. An in form Pat Moloney takes over and with a clear path, she’ll be hard to hold out.
5 Hydro Star (Bet Now: $9.50) hadn’t won in a long time for John McArdle but that all changed in the Ballarat race mentioned above where he was the one who had clear air, proper momentum and surged right over the top to get the win. He’ll be suspect late, but hopefully can get a decent drag into the race.
3 The Running Man (Bet Now: $31.00) is certainly capable with his best. Ran over 1000m on his home track at Cranbourne two weeks back and closed his race off pretty well late in the piece when third to Invincibilius. Drawn wide, but should get a decent drag into the race and be strong late.
Race 8. (17:05) Cloud Cuckoo Cocktails (bm64) 1600m
6 So You See (Bet Now: $2.25) could still have claims for the SA Oaks next Saturday with a win here. Just put a line through the Alexandra run at The Valley when pulling up with the dreaded EIPH after covering ground. Run prior, she was luckless in the Kewney. If she is indeed Stakes class, she has to be putting this field away.
4 Brooklyn Boss (Bet Now: $7.00) has returned in good order for the Price/Kent camp. Resumed over 1400m at Pakenham where he was tucked in behind the speed and got clear in the straight, knuckling down strongly over the concluding stages to drive and get the win. Draws to do no work and the extra 200m should be ideal.
5 Maui (Bet Now: $14.00) is sneaky flying for Phillip Stokes I feel. Condition just ran out fresh here back on Feb 13. Had several weeks off prior to racing at Pakenham where he was finishing off his race strongly but then got badly held up late. If he gets the run of the green here, he’ll be dangerous.
