The 2025/26 night racing season at Canterbury kicks off this Friday. The weather is fine, the track is good (4) and the rail is in the true position for the entire circuit.

6 Flaxlands (Bet Now:  $SP.00) looks a nice filly for Chris Waller and in what looks a solid maiden, I am happy to be in her corner. She ran last Satruday at Hawkesbury over 1400m when off speed and kept chasing the line with purpose in a good effort in defeat. The rise in trip suits and hopefully the inside gate can be used to advantage.

7 Saloon Passage (Bet Now:  $SP.00) was heavily backed when racing in a 1400m maiden at Kembla three weeks ago. She just got a bit too far out of her ground and was good late without threatening when fourth. Rise in distance looks ideal and has good upside/scope.

4 Six Kings (Bet Now:  $SP.00) was unwanted in betting when debuting over 1400m in a Rosehill maiden. He landed on speed and he tried hard but he couldn’t sustain the run and just felt the pinch late in the piece. Maps to use the inside gate to advantage and is a threat at odds.

6 Daphnes (Bet Now:  $SP.00) looks the winner if she’s ready to go. Her two year old season, she debuted with a narrow second to Tempted, pushing her all the way up the Warwick Farm straight. Trial work has been very good and if she’s ready to go, she has the class to put these away.

1 Namaste (Bet Now:  $SP.00) has always promised to be a nice horse for Bjorn Baker. Can he live up to that promise now he’s had the ultimate operation? He is first up, has looked to trial enormous, looks the likely leader…he’ll give a stack of cheek I am sure. Betting will be the guide.

8 Pink Persuasion (Bet Now:  $SP.00) comes back to 1250m after a debut over 1300m at Newcastle where she got into a reasonable spot in transit and did try hard but just couldn’t quite finish the job when third to Rosa Incanta, who goes around as a contender in the Spring Stakes on Saturday, so think the form reads okay. In the mix.

Market will be fascinating with 1 Sword Of Legacy (Bet Now:  $SP.00) but if she’s ready to go, I think she’ll take beating here. Formerly with Dom Sutton, she now finds herself with Chris Waller and has looked strong in a couple of trials for the return. If she’s ready to go, she’s the one to beat.

2 Pyrolysis (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a Bjorn Baker trained filly that resumes. She has placed in both career outings, those runs coming during the Winter. Has looked sharp in two trial wins, she is a definite yard and market watch.

7 Miss Supernova (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a daughter of Russian Revolution that debuts for the Ryan/Alexiou. This girl has had a couple of trials to get ready for start one and hasn’t been too bad to my eye, enough there to say she has an engine under the hood so watch betting.

7 Written Scandal (Bet Now:  $SP.00) on top but not really a race I want to get involved in. Peter Snowden trained mare that is a few weeks between runs since racing at the midweeks at Warwick Farm when wide no cover in the run and just felt the pinch late behind Jellicious. Better run in transit this time around, she takes beating.

8 Kilonova (Bet Now:  $SP.00) should appreciate firmer footing for Chris Waller after racing on a complete bog at Rosehill where she tried hard but couldn’t pick her feet up in the conditions behind Taxation. Her best is clearly good enough to take this out.

9 Kilkenny (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a Chris Waller trained mare that resumes. This girl is first up, having not raced since May 28 over 1550m here when finding a wet track and struggled in the conditions late. Maps to do no work and be strong late so watch betting.

5 Flightcrew (Bet Now:  $SP.00) should prove hard to beat for Team Curtis after a placing at the midweeks at Rosehill behind Taxation. She had her chance but stayed on and was pretty good in defeat. Maps to get the run of the race and be hard to hold out.

3 Heuristic (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is one of the leading contenders after a placing on Cup Day at Randwick when wide no cover on speed but he stayed on and was good in defeat behind Carbonados. Better luck in running, he’s dangerous.

4 New Business (Bet Now:  $SP.00) should be better for the first up run, which came over 1100m at Hawkesbury where he just found them a tad sharp but he stayed on and was far from disgraced in defeat. Maps to do no work in the run and be effective late.

3 Debello (Bet Now:  $SP.00) comes through the Four Pillars where he attempted to lead throughout and he gave a decent kick from the front but just felt the pinch late. Front end control, he’s one of the leading contenders.

5 Verbil (Bet Now:  $SP.00) has done little wrong this time in for Team Archibald and is one of the key chances. He ran two weeks ago at Randwick when off the pace in an on speed dominated affair and kept chasing behind Midnight Dynamite. That form reads well, he commands respect.

4 Rattle And Hum (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a Michael Freedman trained gelding that resumes. He is first up, having not raced since June 11 over 2400m when gallant in defeat. Better suited over further and likely spots them a start but will be strong late.

3 Blacklist (Bet Now:  $SP.00) steps up to 1900m after racing over 1800m at Eagle Farm when off speed and kept chasing in a pretty good effort in defeat. Maps to get a sweet run in transit and be one of the strongest at the end.

1 Hawk Power (Bet Now:  $SP.00) should be better for the first up run, which came over 1850m at Newcastle where he just looked in need of the run and that’s how it panned out behind Oceanfront, a subsequent Midway winner, and the form out of that race has been quite good. Upside to come, he’s a key threat.

8 Chateaux Park (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a veteran for Jason Coyle that comes to town off the back of a win at Newcastle where he found the best part of the track, giving them a start and a beating. He’s found winning form and he can go on with it.

8 Wave Breaker (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is worth a throw at the stumps in the last. Far from disgraced two back at Warwick Farm in her last run for Peter Snowden before heading to Justin Drake. She went to Scone, giving them a start and a beating in a sharp display. Maps to do no work in the run and with luck, I think she’ll run well at odds.

3 Balkans (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is two weeks between runs since racing over this trip at Randwick. He was one of the runs of the race given he was back near last in a race dominated on speed and was really good late behind Pokerjack. Hard to beat against these.

5 Apex (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a Team Hawkes trained gelding that resumes. This guy is first up, having not raced since May 14 on the Kenso at Randwick when finding a very sticky track and failed to come on. Trialled well, likes Canterbury, watch betting.

LONG SHOT: Race Eight Number 8 Wave Rider
