Ten races has been set down for Rosehill this Saturday, headlined by some cracking races, namely the Theo Marks Stakes (1300m) and the Run To The Rose (1200m). The weather is fine, the track is soft (7) and the rail is out six metres for the entire circuit.

Race 1. (11:50) Midway (Bm72) 1200m
10 Against The Law (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) ran in the Signor Tortoni Midway from two weeks back. He got into a decent spot just off the speed and tried hard but just lacked the finale to go with them late. Stable is flying at present and overall, this isn’t a deep contest.
6 Modella (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a Team Curtis trained mare that resumes. She is first up, having not raced since the Hawkesbury Guineas where she got too far back in the run but liked the way she closed off in defeat. Trial work to get ready has been strong and has class.
4 African Daisy (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is dangerous here I feel. She was 1400m back to 1200m when racing in the Midway at Randwick three weeks ago. She just found them a bit too sharp over 1200m, and on the testing ground, but she stayed on and was far from disgraced in defeat. Firmer deck, she appeals as a knockout hope.
Race 2. (12:25) Tab Highway Hcp (C3) 1400m
8 Show Em Howl (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a leading chance. Looked a moral last Monday at Port Macquarie and despite a few nervous moments, once he got clear air and balanced up, away he went and he was far too good. Proven at Highway level previously, he’s hard to beat.
9 Solitario (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is knocking on the door to win for Messara/Gavranich and is the one I think. On face value, he had his chance two weeks ago here, but he was drawn wide and didn’t really get a chance to build the revs in a total forgive. He’s got the talent to be a Highway horse and he strikes a winnable race.
4 Pony Soprano (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a query at 1400m, and I reckon could be the pacemaker for Show Em Howl, but if the track is playing up/in, he becomes dangerous because his last start win at Port Macquarie was impressive, doing the work in front and just kept running. He’s a threat.
Race 3. (13:00) Petaluma (Bm78) 2400m
2 Cormac T (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) has been up a little while for Team Archibald and is one of the key chances after a placing at this trip three weeks ago at Randwick where he kept coming late but just couldn’t quite get there when second to Wuddzz. Only has to hold his form and he’ll be around the mark.
1 Juja Kibo (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) put together a couple of strong wins before racing at Randwick three weeks back. He got back in the run and I thought the ride from Nock was a touch sleepy, just leaving the run a bit late. Prior efforts were good enough to take this out.
9 California Grass (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is in with a shout for John Thompson. She ran last Wednesday at Warwick Farm when well specked at odds but just couldn’t quite pick them up from the back and just whacked in the run to the line. Hard fit, has that staying run under the belt, she can run an improved race at odds.
Race 4. (13:35) Tab (Bm88) 1800m
11 Seven’s (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) looks suited up to 1800m. He was held up in behind them a fortnight back over 1500m and when clear, I liked the way he finished his race off in defeat. Racing like 1800m will be ideal and has good upside to come.
1 Strathtay (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) should love a rise in trip for Chris Waller after resuming over 1500m two weeks ago here. He got a fair way out of his ground and while he was never threatening, I really liked the way he finished his race off in defeat behind Estadio Mestalla. Fitter and up in trip, he appeals.
6 Glad You Think So (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is in a purple patch for John Sargent and commands respect. Randwick winner three weeks back, knuckling down with purpose late from off speed to get the job done. He’s racing like 1800m will suit and strikes a race where it looks winnable with his best.
Race 5. (14:15) Asahi Super Dry (Bm88) 1100m
6 World Alliance (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is several weeks between runs for Matty Smith after racing over 1100m at Randwick. He got back to near last but saved ground and loomed but couldn’t quite finish it off when second to Cigar Flick. He’ll be strong late. Just doesn’t want to concede too much head start.
4 Boston Rocks (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) can well and truly put his hand up for The Kosciuszko with a forward showing here. He just found them too sharp fresh at The Valley but he stuck on and was good in defeat when third. Tick over trial last week at Kembla was quite good and fitter, up in trip and bigger track, he appeals.
8 Bonita Queen (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is three weeks between runs since resuming in the Toy Show where she found them too sharp and was never really a factor when down the track, running last behind Autumn Glow. She can run a much improved race at odds.
Race 6. (14:50) Ming Dynasty Qlty 1400m
1 Autumn Boy (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a class colt that resumes for Chris Waller. He went 2/2 during the Winter and each time he looked very impressive. Extensive trial work to get ready for the return and despite having eyes on longer/better races, he looks to have trialled up super.
3 Providence… (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) less said the better re Up And Coming two weeks ago. He was probing for the run but got cut out, checked, and pretty much went around like it was a barrier trial. He had trialled like a rocket leading in and I am convinced he is a Spring Champion/Derby horse. Keen to follow.
5 Federalist (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a nice horse on the up that resumes for Team Hawkes. Beautifully bred type that is still a maiden but each time he ran in the Autumn, he caught the eye and kept finding the line. Trial work to get ready has been more than encouraging and he should be quite strong at the end.
Race 7. (15:25) Sheraco Stakes 1200m
8 Gangsta Granny (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) for me. She resumed with an absolute bang in the Toy Show three weeks ago. She led and gave a very strong kick from the front but she couldn’t hold out Autumn Glow, with a gap to third. If she runs up to that effort here, she will take a power of beating.
4 Ameena (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a quality mare that is first up for Team Freedman. She hasn’t raced since The Goodwood on May 10 where she ran out of her skin, just finding a few better when a close up fourth to Reserve Bank. Trial work has been strong, she’s a first four threat.
1 Stefi Magnetica (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is the class animal and that is going to carry her a long way despite 1200m being short of her best. She resumes after a fab Autumn prep, highlighted by a Doncaster Mile triumph. Likely gets back to last but will be strong late.
Race 8. (16:00) Run To The Rose 1200m
Have to be with 6 Skyhook (Bet Now:Β $SP.00). Been given a mini freshen up since taking out The Rosebud over 1100m here, getting better as the race went on to win impressively. Grand Prairie franked that form in the Up And Coming and a recent trial was more than encouraging. Maps perfect, strong late, keen.
10 Wodeton (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) should be better for the first up run in the San Domenico two weeks ago. Was he beating Raging Force? I dare say no, but he should have finished much closer when second. Fitter and up in trip, he only runs well i say with eyes towards the Golden Rose.
4 Rivellino (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a big threat. He ran two weeks back in the San Domenico when first up. He just found them too sharp over 1100m and while he was never threatening, he stayed on and was a definite pass mark. Better set up here. he’s dangerous.
Race 9. (16:40) Theo Marks Stakes 1300m
5 Autumn Glow (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) aka Baby Winx picks herself. You don’t know how good they are til they’re beaten and she’s 5/5. Has she beaten much? No. But the arrogance of her wins, how strong she has been…she’s special. Fitter and up in trip, home track, firmer footing…good luck beating her.
2 Pier (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a good horse from NZ that resumes after a very good prep in Brisbane during the Winter Carnival, with his last start Wayne Wilson triumph absolutely smashing the clock. Trialled up enormous last week at Warwick Farm, I think he’ll run really well.
4 Encap (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) looks here to play I suspect for Gary Portelli. He resumes, having not raced since the JRA Plate during the Autumn Carnival where he ran his race in patches and was never really a factor behind Bois D’Argent. Given a good break and his trial work has been very good.
Race 10. (17:15) Rosehill Bowling Club (Bm78) 1500m
6 Narbold (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is three weeks between runs since placing over the mile at Randwick. He tried his guts out and kept finding the line but just found Glad You Think So too strong in the run to the line. Racing well and should be around the mark.
5 Captain Furai… (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is he a pretender? I thought he had every chance a fortnight back at this track/distance, getting every chance in transit and presented to win but couldn’t quite get there when a narrow third to Cristal Clear. If he brings his best, he wins…but it is last chance territory.
7 Brosnan (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) has an awful winning strike rate but I don’t think it truly reflects the ability this horse has. He didn’t get the clearest of paths in the straight two weeks back at this track/distance and was entitled to finish a bit closer behind Cristal Clear. Not sure he wins, but a must include in exotics.
