Night racing returns to Canterbury this Friday evening. The weather is fine, the track is good (4) and the rail is out three metres for the entire circuit.
Race 1. (18:15) ANZ BLOODSTOCK NEWS MDN HCP 1550m
Chris Waller looks to have a strong hand in the race. Siding with 3 Zudin (Bet Now:Β $5.00). He ran over this track/distance last time out when badly held up at a vital stage, losing all momentum and he should have fought the finish out when third to Kaptive. Blinkers on first time and is hard fit now.
1 Mightybeel (Bet Now:Β $2.70) is a Savabeel colt for Chris Waller that looks suited up in trip after resuming over 1300m at Newcastle. Got back in the run and took a little while to get into his work but closed off strongly late to run second to Prompt Prodigy. J Mac takes the ride and with upside to come, stepping up in trip, hard to beat.
11 Kobestar (Bet Now:Β $5.50) looks suited up in distance. Anthony Cummings trained gelding that resumed over 1250m here on testing ground and worked to the line pretty well albeit well held on the line when third to impressive winner Grenado. If he can settle closer in the run from the draw, he’ll be dangerous.
Race 2. (18:45) HYLANDS RACE COLOURS (BM72) 1250m
The map looks tricky for 6 Diva Bella (Bet Now:Β $5.50) but just can’t get out of my mind her first up run. Resumed several weeks ago over 1100m here and gee she should have won. Just no luck at all in the straight when seemingly full of running. Gets a senior in form jock aboard and with better luck in running, she can take this out.
4 Brazen Gem (Bet Now:Β $2.40) looks hard to beat but gee she’s short enough I feel. Was really keen on her chances last time out here and seemed to have every chance to run down Vrenelli, but that WaterBott runner was too good from the front. J Mac takes over and though drawn wide, I dare he’ll ride her like she is the best horse in the race, which she could well be.
9 Cool Missile (Bet Now:Β $6.50) is a progressive mare for Kris Lees that deserves a crack in town. Her last two starts have come at Port Macquarie over 1100m and 1000m respectively, knuckling down strongly to win both times. Form out of the last start has been franked and always have to respect the stable.
Race 3. (19:15) TAB (BM72) 1550m
7 Harmonium (Bet Now:Β $4.40) looks to have the upside and progression to take this out. Team Freedman trained filly that has been strong to the line in both runs back from a break, the latest coming over 1300m at Kembla when second to a handy type in Land Of Valens. Unknown at 1550m but racing as if it will suit.
6 Joliette (Bet Now:Β $2.80) doesn’t have the greatest of winning strike rates, but she is an honest mare for Chris Waller that is rarely far away. Chased strongly last Wednesday on the Kenso track and just missed out on the win when a close up second to Elegant Grace. Bursting to win one and gets her chance here.
2 Celtic Love (Bet Now:Β $15.00) can be an improver at odds for the Marc Conners camp. Ran over the mile at Randwick last time out and although she only beat three home, she was unlucky and should have finished much closer behind Invinciano. This looks a suitable race for her and a win wouldn’t shock at all.
Race 4. (19:45) STUD&STABLE STAFF AWARDS-BM72 1900m
4 California Longbow (Bet Now:Β $9.50) is three weeks between runs for the Snowden camp since racing at Randwick. He was specked at odds and was ridden a touch more warm than usual. Tempo was soft, but still think being ridden that way found him out in the end. Better suited here I feel and gets Blinkers back on.
1 Amoretti (Bet Now:Β $3.20) is flying. Gary Portelli has this gelding absolutely flying at the moment. Has won three on the bounce, his last two coming under the lights at Canterbury over 1900m, the latest being a few weeks ago when proving strongest on the line. Hard to knock the way he is going at the moment.
1900m first up signals intent to my eye with 8 Impactful (Bet Now:Β $12.00), resuming for Chris Waller. Hasn’t raced since September 30 on the Kenso track when down the track and probably at the end of his prep behind Badoosh. Two trials to get ready, J Mac booked and 1900m first up tells me he’s ready to go.
Race 5. (20:15) SKY RACING ACTIVE (BM64) 1200m
Hoping for a jump and run ride from Tom Sherry aboard 11 Expat (Bet Now:Β $4.60). She’s done a good job in her short career to date and the key to her is finding the front, which she has done in two runs and each time she has won, the latest coming at Newcastle. If she gets to the front and the fence, she’ll run a big race.
12 Head On Up (Bet Now:Β $4.50) looks the map horse. Has early speed and I think will likely land the box seat behind Expat. Led throughout to win fresh at Kembla over 1000m and she ran sharp overall time in saluting. Form around her from the first prep does read very well for a race like this.
1200m is an unknown with 10 Blossom Star (Bet Now:Β $11.00) but I reckon she has a strong engine under the hood. Looked a good thing when resuming at Goulburn and duly saluted in pretty arrogant fashion. Been given a couple of months off and her Warwick Farm trial looked strong to the eye, so keen to see how she goes.
Race 6. (20:45) THE AGENCY REAL ESTATE (BM72) 1550m
$51+ was first up put up for 9 Newtown Bluebag (Bet Now:Β $21.00) and no surprise to see that price trim up. Trialled like a bomb at Canberra prior to resuming at Warwick Farm where he didn’t like the sit/sprint set up but his last 50m was the best part of his race. He has a good record at the track, JVO gets on very well with him and if he can hold a forward spot from the inside gate, I think he’ll run a big race.
6 Major Artie (Bet Now:Β $2.50) looks the leader and if he does find the front, he’ll take a power of beating. Rachel King rode him last start at Gosford when getting control on speed and kicked on strongly late to fend them off and get the job done. Loses little with Nash taking over and is one of the hardest to beat.
8 Trust The Process (Bet Now:Β $9.00) can be an improver back to midweek grade. Around six weeks between runs since racing at Randwick and working to the line fairly without threatening behind Bowery Breeze. Fresh legs in this kind of race, he’s certainly good enough to cause problems if he’s right.
Race 7. (21:15) EVENING STAR (BM78) 1250m
2 Starspangled Rodeo (Bet Now:Β $3.90) looks hard to beat. Comes through the Count De Rupee race from a few weeks ago when back near last in the run and somewhat run off his legs when they dashed, but he picked up and was really good late. Gets a rise in trip and should be strong late, especially the way the map reads. The one to beat.
3 Lancaster Bomber (Bet Now:Β $3.80) looks the leader and he’ll take a power of beating with Nash back on, who rode him to lead throughout here three back. Second to All Time Legend two back, then last start at Rosehill was ridden with a sit and was good late behind Count De Rupee. He’ll lead and prove hard to run down.
6 Mission Hill (Bet Now:Β $26.00) is a big watch for me. Formerly with Murray Baker before having a couple of runs for Joseph Waldron. Now finds himself with Matty Dunn and has had the benefit of two barrier trials. Host of gear changes for his resumption, so watch the market and see what it does.
Race 8. (21:45) BOWERMANS FURNITURE (BM72) 1100m
1 Broken Arrows (Bet Now:Β $8.00) is a bit hit and miss at times, but what jumps outs for me with him is the form around him. It’s proper Saturday class form with a hint of Stakes form in there as well. His effort behind Pandemic a few weeks back was more than sound and his subsequent trial was good…think a fast run 1100m will suit.
4 Nosey (Bet Now:Β $4.00) has done a pretty good job in two runs for Kris Lees. Landed big bets when resuming with a win on Gosford Guineas Day before racing here when back, wide with cover and working home nicely late when fourth to Perigord. Third up, hard fit and J Mac remains on, so has a bit going for him.
3 Partners (Bet Now:Β $10.00) will lead this field up and look the winner for a long way. He resumed over 1000m at Randwick several weeks ago when on speed and copping pressure, tiring late when fifth to Our Bellagio Miss. Scott Singleton did say pre race that the horse would need the run so fitter, up to 1100m, he’ll lead and give a big sight.
