Racing in SA continues at Morphettville Parks this Saturday with the Grand National Hurdle and Steeple highlighting the card. The weather is overcast, the track is soft (7) and the rail is out six metres from the 1000m-Winning Post; Out three metres for the remainder.

Race One (12:23) : Grand National Hurdle 3500m:
Back Me: 4 Honey Steel’s Gold (Bet Now: $2.40) is a jumps maiden, but in terms of flat speed, he has these covered, so he is a definite threat. He has run twice over the jumps, resulting in a third to Livery, who won at Ballarat. Honey Steel’s Gold then went to Ballarat himself and ran a credible second to the very impressive winner Zanteco. Jumps novice, but his flat sprint brings him right into contention.
Big Danger: 2 Twin Tea Bags (Bet Now: $1.90) took care of an average lot over the jumps at Casterton before going to Ballarat where he battled on the flat behind Grassini. His future is over the jumps and he is in the right stable, plus there is enormous upside with this galloper.
Roughie: 1 Earthbound (Bet Now: $5.50) comes through the Australian Hurdle at Sandown a fortnight back where he tried hard but was simply no match for star pair Arch Fire and Gingerboy. This is a massive drop in depth here, and he is hard fit, especially over the sticks, so he has to rate as one of the hardest to beat in a pretty thin race.

Race Two (12:58) : Peter Elberg Funerals Handicap (82) 1950m:
Back Me: The way 2 Creance (Bet Now: $2.70) travelled up to them on the turn over this track/distance last time out, it was almost no betting as he bolted to the front, but he couldn’t hold out the finishing burst of What’s In A Name and had to settle for second. That run should see him better off here and he is a live chance for sure.
Big Danger: 5 Turbo Street (Bet Now: $2.20) resumed at Flemington three weeks back where he sat near a hot speed and fought on well when running sixth to Mihany. Second up here at the 1950m is a little query, but he has the class factor on his side, a previous second up winner and has plenty of upside.
Roughie: 6 Zerprise Journey (Bet Now: $10.00) is on the back up after racing over 1550m here last Saturday where she did bugger all behind Chestnut Charlie, but the step up in trip and the fact it was her first run in a month, and with the claim, she can improve.

Race Three (13:32) : Grand National Steeplechase 3500m:
Back Me: 1 Angelology (Bet Now: $1.95) just picks himself here. He is the best steeplechaser Australia has to offer at the moment and is the clear horse to beat here after dominating the Australian Steeple at Sandown a fortnight back, with Brad McLean producing a peach to get him home comfortably. Less depth here and is four from five on the track. Bad jumping is the only thing between himself and defeat.
Big Danger: 5 Zataglio (Bet Now: $4.00) was very good in defeat behind Angelology in the Australian Steeple where he attempted to lead all the way but just felt the pinch late. Gets a nice weight pull on the top tip and will be out of trouble on speed.
Roughie: 4 Nishiazabu (Bet Now: $9.00) is the local hope and is a must for exotics. He didn’t run a bad race on the flat last time out at Gawler over 2200m when fourth to noted swimmer Milkwood. He did win the Von Doussa during the Oakbank Carnival, so he has the talent to be competitive, and his recent jumps record has been pretty good.

Race Four (14:10) : Irish Raceday August 27 Maiden Plate 1000m:
Back Me: 3 Berri Cherry (Bet Now: $4.20) comes here for Darren Weir off a little freshen up where he ran a game fourth at Ballarat. Has since trialled at Avoca and looked very good there. Has to be respected.
Big Danger: 8 Time Out (Bet Now: $3.80) ran over this track/distance a fortnight back and stuck to the task pretty well when running second to the very impressive Showpero. Not as much depth here and he is bursting to win a race.
Roughie: 7 Swipe Me Right (Bet Now: $17.00) is a well named gelding that comes to town after running third behind Mulder in a strong form race at Gawler. Would need to improve a bit to win, but the signs are there he can be competitive in a race like this.

Race Five (14:50) : Farmers Union Iced Coffee Handicap (90) 1250m:
Back Me: 8 Shaf (Bet Now: $4.00) for me here in a tricky race. He made up ground late without threatening when running fourth to Casino Wizard, beaten six lengths. Gets a nice little weight pull on that horse here and he is a bit more consistent than Casino Wizard, so I’ll go with him to turn the tables.
Big Danger: It’s hard to ignore 4 Casino Wizard (Bet Now: $3.20) after his dominant win in that race mentioned above where he was ridden a treat by Dom Tourneur to defeat the highly fancied Voodoo Lad. As stated above, his consistency is an issue, but if he produces a run similar to what he produced here two weeks ago, he’ll go close again.
Roughie: 6 Baligari (Bet Now: $8.00) was specked at odds when resuming over this track/distance a fortnight ago and he just couldn’t really quicken behind impressive winner Casino Wizard. Not sure he can turn the tables, but he has a really good second up record, and is the clear class runner engaged here, so he could be the improver.

Race Six (15:30) : Celebrating Pam Nunn’s 60th Handicap (70) 1300m:
Back Me: 6 The Show Goes (Bet Now: $11.00) on started at a short quote last time out in a Gawler maiden and though he didn’t handle the wet track at all, he proved too good for his rivals. In order to win, he’ll need a firmer track. If that eventuates, he has enough upside and apparent talent to win this pretty handy three year old race.
BIg Danger: 1 Battle Brewing (Bet Now: $3.40) drops in grade after contesting the Adelaide Guineas last time out when midfield behind Antelucan. Runs well on the Parks track, draws well and is the clear class runner.
Roughie: 9 Sassy Jo (Bet Now: $61.00) didn’t beat much in her Strathalbyn maiden win last time out, but she did cop pressure in front and ended up drawing clear late. Harder here, but right down in the weights, should get the suck run behind the tempo and is a definite exotic player.

Race Seven (16:10) : UBET Handicap (70) 1000m:
Back Me: 5 Super Fun (Bet Now: $3.20) ran over this track/distance a couple of weeks back and was given a beaut steer from Matty Neilson to get the job done narrowly but impressively. Meets a similar field here and only has to repeat last start to just about get the job done again.
Big Danger: 3 El Prado Gold (Bet Now: $16.00) ran fourth in that Super Fun race mentioned above where he loomed to win when he got clear near the inside, but as soon as he was let down, he dashed for about 50m and that was it. There was solid market support for him, so I’ll respect that and I think if he can sit a tad closer, he’s a chance.
Roughie: 2 Ready Sunshine (Bet Now: $15.00) resumed in that Super Fun and he was an eye catcher late, making up ground to run sixth, beaten 3.6L. He has a really good second up record without winning, loves racing on the Parks track and he’ll be strong late for sure. Knockout hope.

Race Eight (16:50) : Schweppes Handicap (64) 1400m:
Back Me: 6 Infinity Queen (Bet Now: $4.40) ran over 1250m here a fortnight back and closed off hard late to run fourth to Spinning Diamond. She will eat up the 150m here and if she is able to sit closer in the run, her chances are enhanced.
Big Danger: 7 Mixologist (Bet Now: $31.00) is a talented type that resumes for Jake Stephens. He only had one run last prep, which was on Easter Saturday at Clare where he was a short priced elect and was disappointing. He showed earlier on that he is a talent and could measure up in town.
Roughie: 8 Flask (Bet Now: $12.00) is a handy type that ran over this track/distance two weeks ago and stuck to the task pretty well behind the well performed Brinkley Bliss. Not as much depth here, and she is in form. Outside winning chance.
