Seven races will be run and won at Canterbury on Friday night. The weather is fine, the track is soft (7) and the rail is out three metres for the entire circuit.

Race 1. (17:40) Schweppes Mdn Hcp 1250m
Landed with 2 Gatekeeper (Bet Now: $4.50) but not a whole lot of interest here in the opener. Son of Justify for Chris Waller that has looked to trial well enough in readiness for start one, the latest trial seeing him run second over 1030m at Rosehill and moved well enough. Lands in a plum spot from the gate and gets J Mac to steer.
1 Automne Tree (Bet Now: $3.50) is a key chance I say. Stablemate of Gatekeeper that is well bred and I do think has an engine under the hood. He won his recent trial over 1030m at Rosehill, beating Gatekeeper, and while that horse seemed to move better, I don’t think he moved too bad. Gets in well after the claim, he’s dangerous.
10 Pratt (Bet Now: $34.00) is steadily getting better with racing and his best is good enough to be a threat. He ran at Wyong last time where he wasn’t 100% happy around the tight track but kept finding the line in a decent enough effort. Hard fit now and up to 1250m, he rates highly.
Race 2. (18:15) Bisley Workwear Mdn Hcp 1250m
5 The Stars (Bet Now: $3.80) is the straight bat play. Chris Waller trains this filly, who is on debut off the back of strong trial work, the latest piece of work seeing her win impressively over 900m at Rosehill. Should get a beaut run with J Mac on and looks to have found a good race to make a winning debut.
1 Scintilla (Bet Now: $2.70) would be a moral if she drew a gate but again comes up with an awful gate. She resumed here and she should have won but just got dragged back and was held up from the gate, charging late. She has a big engine and wouldn’t shock me if she gapped these and ended up Stakes class.
7 Maquisa (Bet Now: $8.50) comes back in trip for Chris Waller after resuming over 1300m at Kembla when off speed and kept chasing in a pretty good return behind Imposing Pier. Back in trip I find interesting but maps to do no work and be strong at the end.
Race 3. (18:50) Inglis Classic Sale 9-11 Feb Out Now (Bm64) 1550m
9 Lough Eske (Bet Now: $12.00) looks hard to beat. Chris Waller trained colt that debuted with a very strong win at Beaumont Newcastle when knuckling down with purpose late to win. Runner up ran well in town on Wednesday and the race has produced two winners, so the form reads well, he’ll love 1550m and J Mac steers.
I have no idea what to make of the run from 3 Heed The Omens (Bet Now: $12.00) at Randwick last time. I thought he was a near good thing, the market gravitated towards him but he found nothing and was very much on the plain side. Off prior efforts, he can win this, so watch the market.
1 Prime Impact (Bet Now: $12.00) is a son of Snitzel that resumes for Kris Lees. He is first up, having not raced since Oct 18 when ridden with intent in the Taree Cup and felt the pinch late. 1550m fresh signals intent to me and his trial work to get ready has been quite strong.
Race 4. (19:25) Tab (Bm64) 1900m
5 Investment (Bet Now: $6.00) is knocking on the door and I think she gets her chance here. Latest run was New Years Day at this track/distance where she loomed to win when presented but just found one better in Smart Legend. Has that 1900m run under the belt, which should hold her in good stead.
3 Kirikan (Bet Now: $2.80) should appreciate a rise to 1900m after racing over the mile at Randwick last start where he got a fair way out of his ground but made up good headway in defeat and was an eye catcher behind stablemate Autumnation. J Mac on, up in trip, he rates highly.
7 Luskaire (Bet Now: $14.00) will land on the bunny and run a positive race, as seen here over 1550m on New Years Day when honest from just off the speed but couldn’t quite finish the job. I think if he finds the front, he’ll run a much improved race.
Race 5. (19:55) The Agency Real Estate (Bm72) 1250m
2 Capital Asset (Bet Now: $9.50) each way for me. Ciaron Maher trained gelding that resumed over 1300m at Randwick where he got a fair way out of his ground and while he was never a winning threat, he did make up ground and was good in his return behind Noble Conqueror. Big improver second up I say and maps to get a sweet run in transit.
11 Stagnum (Bet Now: $4.00) was a big price when a debut winner over this track/distance, giving them a start and a beating, letting down with electric change up speed to win and win well. Good test here jumping to 72 grade, but think he can measure up.
9 Zoukerino (Bet Now: $3.20) has had a couple of runs at 1100m to start the prep and is racing like a rise to 1200m will be ideal. He ran behind Angel Fund a fortnight back at Randwick, working home strongly from off the speed to finish fourth. Likely spots them a start but third up, hard fit, he should be strong late and is a threat.
Race 6. (20:30) Parramatta Kia Evening Star (Bm72) 1250m
2 Passeggiata (Bet Now: $10.00) will jump on the bunny and take running down. She overdid it at Randwick last time over 1200m and just felt the pinch late in the piece behind Left Field. Back to this level and Mares grade, good racing style, she takes running down.
5 Demiana (Bet Now: $4.20) is dangerous with her best. Chris Waller trained mare that ran behind Perfumist a fortnight back where she got a fair way out of her ground but made up decent headway and was pretty good in defeat. If she can settle closer in the run, she’s good enough to win.
13 Not That Easy (Bet Now: $12.00) is a knockout chance for Jason Coyle. Totally forgiving of her run at Wyong last time where she was near last in what turned out to be a barrier trial so forgive and forget the run. More genuine tempo this time around, she can take this out.
Race 7. (21:05) Asahi Super Dry (Bm72) 1100m
10 Wind Of Change (Bet Now: $15.00) is worth a throw at the stumps. Former Kiwi mare that is now with Matty Smith, her last run being a win over 1200m at Ellerslie in pretty good style. Trialled last week here and I thought moved quite well when second to Shezanalister. Keen to see how she goes and from the tricky gate, I reckon she’s worth a speck each way.
11 Mawjood… (Bet Now: $3.50) is he nearing D-Day? I thought he was plain when resuming at Randwick three weeks ago. Admittedly he had every chance in transit and was there to win but just lacked the finale to put them away late in the piece behind Unstopabull, who was close up in defeat last Saturday so the form reads well and this isn’t a deep contest.
3 Oceans One (Bet Now: $46.00) is an Ed O’Rourke trained gelding that resumes. He is first up, having not raced since Aug 4 when a narrow second at Wyong, sitting off speed and drove hard to just miss. First run for the stable, watch the market and see what it does.
