Race 1. (13:02) Girls Day Out 4 March Hcp 1110m
4 Rupert’s House (Bet Now: $SP.00) looks so well placed to make a winning debut for Bjorn Baker. Son of Winning Rupert that has had a couple of Rosehill 900m trials to get ready for start one, winning them both with something in hand to the eye. Tricky gate, but should slide forward and I don’t think there is much to this race, so I think all things being equal, he’ll be winning this.
12 Queen’s Arms (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a daughter of Rich Enuff on debut for Jack Bruce and he’d love to win this race given he is up against his former boss in Bjorn Baker. She has had a couple of trials to get ready for start one and each time she has been pretty good, the latest a win over 1050m at Deagon. Think she’ll roll forward and take beating.
11 Mishani Metallic (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a winning chance for sure. This filly ran a fortnight back on the Gold Coast Poly where she settled behind the speed and found the line pretty well in defeat I thought behind Tengun Ready, finishing second. Ran well the start prior at Ipswich behind a nice horse, Sunday Mail, so the form around her reads pretty well for a race like this.
Race 2. (13:38) Mount Franklin (Rs0mw) 2000m
1 Ashgrove (Bet Now: $SP.00) looks the one to beat here for Tony Gollan. He ran a narrow second to Deficit in The Wave two back before going to 2000m at Doomben three weeks ago. He was under pressure early but loved the way he kept finding the line late, just missing out on the win when a narrow second to Military Gambler, and IMO he should have got the protest. Off that, I think he is clearly the one to beat.
8 Portnoy (Bet Now: $SP.00) will jump on the bunny and prove hard to run down. He was a little while out of wins but the stable sent him to a thin event at Bathurst where he led throughout and spanked an average bunch, but won by a space and did it with something in hand. That should do his confidence the world of good and with his racing pattern, he’ll take beating here.
4 Eleuthera (Bet Now: $SP.00) is working up to another win for Team Sears. Plain effort two back at the Sunny Coast behind Valley’s Sister but bounced back to positive form here last Wednesday, launching late and just missing out on the win when second to Mr Dudwey. She can be hit and miss but off that last start effort, she’s certainly in the mix against this lot.
Race 3. (14:13) Jewel Raceday 18 March Hcp-C3 1600m
Pretty keen each way here on 2 Clyde (Bet Now: $SP.00), who I think will be winning races under the care of Brian Smith after formerly being with Gary Portelli. Resumed over 1200m here at the midweeks where he was one of the first off the bit but I liked the way he kept finding under hard riding when fifth to My Snow Queen, a run that had plenty of merit given he is a 2000m+ horse. Like him up to the mile and off the return, I think he’ll be hard to hold out.
1 Tidal Creek (Bet Now: $SP.00) has the runs on the board to prove hard to beat. Did a solid job in Sydney before Annabel sent him here at the midweeks where he looked a moral on paper and duly saluted, leading throughout and giving them an absolute spanking. Tricky draw, but should slide forward and prove hard to run down despite the depth rise.
5 De Manara (Bet Now: $SP.00) is unknown at the mile but he is racing like it will suit. Ran two weeks back at the Sunny Coast over 1400m where he got back in the run and made up pretty good headway late without threatening behind in form mare Love Sensation. His last few runs have come at around the 1350m-1400m range so the rise to the mile should be fine and this race isn’t strong.
Race 4. (14:52) Sky Racing Plate (C6) 1600m
3 Major Artie (Bet Now: $SP.00) will jump on the bunny and take beating. Thought he was excellent in defeat two weeks ago at Rosehill where he copped heat on speed by Niffler and did a good job to stick on like he did, running a narrow third to Bold Mac. Hopefully he finds the front and gets control. If that eventuates, he’ll take beating against this lot I’d suggest.
10 Lovely Esteem (Bet Now: $SP.00) has found winning form and she can certainly go on with it here. Three weeks between runs since a win at this track/distance where she was given a peach by Collett and despite only winning narrowly, she was looking the winner from a fair way out, and the form has been franked last Saturday via stablemate Mohican Heights. Hard to beat against these.
5 Ocean Treaty (Bet Now: $SP.00) looks suited up to the mile for the O’Dea/Hoysted camp. Market said she would need the run when resuming three weeks ago over 1350m here and while she was never a winning threat, I didn’t mind the way she found the line late in the piece behind Rock Amore. Really good second up and loves the track/distance so for me, she is one that could be specked.
Race 5. (15:32) Margaret Greenup (Bm80) 1350m
1 Tilianam (Bet Now: $SP.00) is one of the leading contenders. This mare has done a good job this time in for Tony Gollan, racing three weeks ago here where she was given a peach by Jones and tried her guts out to wear down stablemate Rock Amore but she couldn’t quite get there and had to settle for a narrow second. Back to Mares grade, she is a leading contender.
5 Petunia (Bet Now: $SP.00) is flying for Kelly Schweida and is one of the main threats. Put together a couple of sharp wins on the bounce before going to this track/distance three weeks ago where she got a fair way out of her ground but was good late in the piece behind Rock Amore. She doesn’t have the best of racing patterns but if she’s within range on the turn, she can finish over the top.
3 Bold And Lucy (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a Garnett Taylor trained mare that can be hit and miss but she is hitting at the moment, winning three weeks ago at this track/distance when letting down with a brilliant finale out wide to win and win well. Vaccine franked the form last Saturday and back to Mares grade, this mare rates as one of the hardest to beat.
Race 6. (16:12) M.M. Gold Coast 20-21 March 1200m
5 Helluva Barty (Bet Now: $SP.00) looks ready to rock and roll for a crack at Saturday metro level. Got the kill out of the way fresh at the midweeks here, giving them a start and an absolute beating in a dominant display, clocking some of the better late splits of the meeting, and did it without really being extended. Any hint of upside/improvement and he’ll be too good for them.
2 Burnish Gold (Bet Now: $SP.00) is racing well for the Lipp/Hahn camp and appeals for sure. Three weeks between runs since racing at this track/distance when on speed and she gave a strong kick under Thompson. Just couldn’t quite finish it off when second to Tsarina Sophia. That was her first run in a month so you’d like to think there is good upside to come and with her racing pattern, she appeals.
11 Mishani Persuasion (Bet Now: $SP.00) can run a cheeky race here at a price. Outclassed two back in the Magic Millions QTIS behind Alpine Edge before racing on the Gold Coast Poly two weeks ago where he didn’t handle the track at all, running tailed off last. The run three back at the Gold Coast behind Junqueira was good and that effort would see him run a positive race here at a big price.
Race 7. (16:52) Ladbrokes Same Race Multi-Bm75 1110m
Good test here for 15 Deepour (Bet Now: $SP.00) but he has earned a crack in town. He’s had three runs for Adam Campton and has been strong each time, winning the past two over 1000m at the Sunny Coast, the latest win seeing him spank his four rivals. Stable are having a good run when they come to town and overall, this isn’t a strong race. Hard to beat I’d suggest.
Best version of 5 Queen Bellissimo (Bet Now: $SP.00) would see her do a number on these. Just a matter of where she is at. Formerly in Sydney, she is having her first run for Kelly Schweida, having not raced since December 31 when leading and tiring late behind subsequent Stakes winner Cuban Royale. Fresh legs and back to 1110m, she clearly appeals.
16 Baristasista (Bet Now: $SP.00) is dangerous back to a race like this. He ran over this track/distance three weeks ago in a strong 85 and despite being outclassed on paper, I thought she ran a very credible race behind Fifteen Rounds. She is better suited at 75 level compared to 85 and with a more positive ride, I think she is going well enough to take this out.
Race 8. (17:32) Xxxx Dry Hcp 1200m
9 The Big Goodbye (Bet Now: $SP.00) should appreciate a rise in trip for Rob Heathcoate. Ran over 1110m three weeks ago here and for mine, he just found the trip a tad sharp but was far from disgraced in defeat behind Fifteen Rounds. He’s much better suited at 1200m and now he gets back to that trip here, so an improved showing is on the cards.
Back to 1200m I really like for 4 Roman Aureus (Bet Now: $SP.00). He ran two weeks ago in the Sunshine Coast Cup and I thought he was given a 12/10 by Cassidy but he just didn’t run the 1400m strongly enough, tiring late to run third to Chaillot. That hard 1400m run should toughen him up for this 1200m assignment and should just about be at peak fitness.
11 Starvirgo (Bet Now: $SP.00) is suited here I feel for Rob Heathcoate. He had specking at odds when racing at the Sunny Coast last time where he was never really a threat but didn’t mind the way he finished his race off behind impressive winner Fastconi. That was his first run in over a month so I think he has plenty of room for improvement and can certainly take this out.
Race 9. (18:12) Gallopers Sports Club (Bm80) 1350m
13 Subterranean (Bet Now: $SP.00) should love the rise to 1350m here. She resumed over 1200m at Doomben and took a while to get into his work but I didn’t mind the way he finished his race off behind Fastconi, who bolted up last Saturday at the Sunny Coast, so the form clearly reads well and fitter, up to 1350m, it all points to him running a much improved race.
8 Rathlin (Bet Now: $SP.00) is an O’Dea/Hoysted trained gelding that resumes. He hasn’t raced since November 26 at the Gold Coast when third to Fifteen Rounds, and was a little unlucky I thought given he got held up nearer the inside and didn’t really get a chance to build the revs. Interesting he resumes without a trial but first up at 1350m tells me he’s ready to go. Watch the market.
4 Cristal Breeze (Bet Now: $SP.00) is certainly capable with his best. He ran on the Poly at the Gold Coast last time and even though it is early days, it’s clear that either you handle the track or don’t, and he is a horse who didn’t handle it, so forgive and forget. Should get a lovely run from the gate and with a soft trip, I think he is a must for multiples.
