Stakes racing returns to Morphettville this Saturday for Behemoth Stakes Day. The weather is fine, the track is soft (6) and the rail is out four metres for the entire circuit.

6 Exalted Ruth (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is nine years of age for Garret Lynch but she is a mare who is absolutely humming. Dominant win two weeks ago over 1800m where she got the dream run in transit behind the speed before angling clear and in a driving finish, she was much too good, and she’ll only get better up in trip IMO. The one to beat.

4 Montepulciano (Bet Now:  $SP.00) has a good track/distance record and appeals. He ran third to Brave Star a fortnight back where he got off the speed and found the line well enough without threatening behind the Phillip Stokes trained galloper. Like him up in distance and his best is certainly good enough.

5 Shakespeare (Bet Now:  $SP.00) should appreciate a rise in trip for Team Jolly. Surprised most with a first up win over 1700m at Gawler before coming back to the mile here two weeks back where he just found them too sharp and was never a factor behind Brave Star. Up to a more ideal trip and just about at peak fitness, he can take this out.

7 The Golden Fist (Bet Now:  $SP.00) should take a power of beating here. Team Jolly trained gelding that resumes, having not raced since his debut on August 26 last year when a narrow second to a talented animal, Everly. The break between runs I find interesting but moved well in a trial win here and I dare say has eyes on Hong Kong in the not too distant future so there will be intent here.

5 Solesun (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a very interesting runner. He resumes for Clarken/O’Shea, having not raced since Feb 28 at Gawler when back, wide with cover, and failed to get involved when down the track behind Zesty Spice. Been given a good break and I thought moved quite well in a trial here last week. Watch the market.

6 The Creed (Bet Now:  $SP.00) hasn’t been too bad throughout his career and comes here off a placing when third in a 1200m maiden during the Mildura Carnival. Not sure he has the quality to win but can run top four.

1 Staunch (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is the way I am leaning but not really a race I want to get involved in. This guy resumed over 1400m at Geelong where he gave them a start and a beating, letting down with purpose late to win and win well. Fitter and up in trip, touch of quality, he’s hard to beat I say.

7 Delta Tango (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is three weeks between runs for Travis Doudle since racing over 1950m on the Parks track where she was two weeks since a first up flop at Gawler. She got back in the run and tried hard but just didn’t quite have the finale to go with them late in the piece. Back in trip I like and hopefully finds firmer footing.

8 Burning Bright (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is capable with her best. Andrew Gluyas trained mare that ran two weeks back over the mile here. She did work to land on speed and tried hard but that early burn just told late in the piece, tiring to run fifth behind impressive winner A Samurai Mind. Definite chance with a better run in transit.

8 Reservoir Dog (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is getting better with racing this prep and is one of the key threats. He ran third to France’s Boy a fortnight back here at this trip. He got into a decent spot off the speed and tried hard but couldn’t quite get there when finishing third. He’s racing well and can take out a race like this.

1 Rialtor (Bet Now:  $SP.00) lands on speed and will take running down for Stuart Padman. He attempted to lead throughout two weeks ago here and tried his guts out but he couldn’t quite see it through and was quite game in defeat when beaten narrowly by France’s Boy. If he finds the front and gets control. he takes running down.

Fitter and up in trip are two big ticks for 7 Rebel Consortium (Bet Now:  $SP.00). This mare resumed over 1250m three weeks back on the Parks track where she was run off her legs and while she was never a threat, she found the line well enough in defeat. Might want one more and a rise in trip, but she should be strong late.

12 Sachem (Bet Now:  $SP.00) picks himself here. Clarken/O’Shea trained gelding that was bursting to win one and he got the win two weeks ago, getting a peach by J Kah and he made an absolute mess of them. Confidence is sky high now and despite the class/depth rise, he can go on with it.

1 Brave Star (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a beauty for Phillip Stokes and rates highly. He got a lovely run in transit a fortnight back at this track/distance, the box seat sit, before angling clear and he knuckled down with purpose late to win and win well. He’s flying this horse, has found winning form and should prove hard to beat.

4 Morty (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is an improver at odds for Shayne Cahill. He resumed in the Mildura Cup when thrown in the deep end and while he was held, he didn’t disgrace himself in defeat behind a beauty, Jimmy The Bear. Fitter and up in trip, firmer deck (hopefully), he’s a definite improver.

8 Ichibansan (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is finding it hard to win but that said, I do feel that he is racing in pretty good form. He was on speed a fortnight back here and was game as always but as always, he was one paced in the run to the line and had to settle for a placing behind Exalted Ruth. Back up in trip, he appeals.

6 Holmes (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is three weeks between runs for Andrew Clarken since racing on the Parks track and broke a run of outs with a strong win. Admittedly he got the A1 run in transit but he still had to take advantage of it and in testing conditions, he finished best. He can certainly go on with it.

7 Capricorn Ridge (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is racing in a purple patch for Matty Seyers and commands respect. Let down with purpose to win at Gawler two back before racing here two weeks ago when off the speed but tried to make a sustained run. He loomed large but he couldn’t quite see it through, run down late by Exalted Ruth. Good track/distance record, hard to beat.

13 Zakarna (Bet Now:  $SP.00) clearly on top for me. Francis/Kent trained galloper that has been kept on ice since the first up run where she got a mile out of her ground but loved the way she closed off late in the piece. She made Stakes class horses look ordinary in a recent trial and I’m confident she has the finale to overhaul them.

1 Komachi (Bet Now:  $SP.00) commands respect. He is three weeks between runs since racing on the Parks track here when near the speed throughout and he tried hard but couldn’t quite see it through when second to the very much in form Aiguilette. Gets in well after the claim, leading contender.

8 Solar Blast (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is three weeks between runs since racing over 1250m on the Parks track where he got back in the run and while he was never threatening, he kept finding the line and was solid enough in defeat behind noted swimmer Darceandermill. Good track/distance record and hard fit, not dismissing him.

I’m going the way of 1 Chicago Storm (Bet Now:  $SP.00). He is a beauty for David Auldridge and really came of age during the Adelaide Carnival. He hasn’t had a long break and can sprint well on the fresh side. I think he’ll press forward and in a race lacking depth, I’ll go with this tough galloper.

9 Second To Nun (Bet Now:  $SP.00) has to rate highly off her first up win a fortnight back where she gave them a start and beating, producing an incredible filly to launch late and nab Karacasu near the peg. Will likely spot them a start again but should be quite strong at the end.

5 Karacasu (Bet Now:  $SP.00) tends to save his best for Morphettville and while he lacks the class of some of these, he does have ticker. He resumed over 1100m here two weeks back and tried his guts out but just found one better in Second To Nun, bloused late. Good racing style, he is a must for exotics.

1 Jean Valjean (Bet Now:  $SP.00) looks to have returned in pretty good order and should take beating for Clarken/O’Shea. She resumed four weeks ago at Murray Bridge where she got back to near last in the run but got clear air and rocketed late in the piece behind The Guava when second. If she’s within range, she has the finale to overhaul them.

3 Zanthron (Bet Now:  $SP.00) will jump on the bunny and take running down. He produced sustained speed from the front to win a fortnight back over 1100m here, leading throughout and gave nothing else a look in, winning quite impressively. Looks to land on speed and off last start, is one of the leading contenders.

8 Outpost (Bet Now:  $SP.00) looks like he is enjoying life under the care of Simon Bates. He resumed over 1000m at Murray Bridge last Saturday where he was one of the eye catchers of the meeting, closing off with purpose late in the piece in a good piece of work behind Mazovia. Fitter, likes this track/distance, leading chance.

BEST BET: Race One Number 6 Exalted Ruth

NEXT BEST: Race Nine Number 1 Jean Valjean

LONG SHOT: Race Eight Number 1 Chicago Storm
