Canberra Cup 🏆: View the Field and Odds for the Canberra Cup
Race 1. (12:35) Pfd Food Services Mdn Plate 1000m
6 Super Zippi (Bet Now: $SP.00) is worth a throw at the stumps at odds first up. Jarrod Austin trained filly that resumes after a plain debut back in November at Gosford where she did plenty wrong so forgive and forget the run. She has been given a good break and her two trials leading in, she has looked outstanding from what I have seen and Rory Hutchings sticks with her from the trials.
4 Miss Bayles (Bet Now: $SP.00) is dangerous. This girl resumed at Hawkesbury where she did a bit wrong in the run and failed to come on when down the track behind Skiesthelimit. Had trialled well leading in and this isn’t a deep race so with good upside, leading camp, she commands respect.
5 Slinky (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a daughter of The Autumn Sun that is resuming for Bjorn Baker. This girl debuted at Goulburn back in October where she did far too much wrong and was never a factor behind Debello. Trialled well before that and has trialled well in readiness for this, so watch the market and see what it does.
Race 2. (13:11) Tab Federal Riharna Thomson Mdn Hcp 1200m
I am a fan of 2 Bledisloe (Bet Now: $SP.00) and I am confident he can resume with a win. Danielle Seib trained gelding that resumes after debuting here back on Dec 29 when back in the run and took a little while to wind into his work but he was very good late in the piece when third. Really liked his recent trial at Goulburn behind Front Page, and he will be stronger than most at the end.
1 Acheson (Bet Now: $SP.00) will welcome coming back to this town. He ran at Warwick Farm in a maiden last time and while he was held by Ducasse, I thought he was far from disgraced in defeat. This looks more his go and with home track advantage, the ideal map, he’ll be around the mark.
3 Snippety Star (Bet Now: $SP.00) creates interest. Formerly with Ryan/Alexiou, this filly is now with Rob Potter. This girl has solid form around her, including a good effort behind subsequent Group l winner Joliestar, so the form reads very well for a Canberra maiden and her trial work to get ready has been more than encouraging.
Race 3. (13:46) Airconditioning Canberra 1000m
4 Secret Revolution (Bet Now: $SP.00) looks to have a bit on these IMO. This guy was a spank job track/distance winner three back and in two subsequent city runs, he has been more than solid in defeat, the latest on the Kenso when second to Confess Our Dreams. Back to this level, back to the scene of the crime, he’s clearly the one to beat.
3 Major Time (Bet Now: $SP.00) is eight years of age but he’s racing so well for Gratz Vella and he does love this track/distance. Tough on speed win two back before going to the Confess Our Dreams race mentioned above when on speed and just felt the pinch late in the piece. Tommy on, ideal map to the eye, leading contender.
2 No Statement (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a Mike Van Gestel trained gelding that resumes. This guy is first up, having not raced since Gong Day at Kembla when down the track over 1000m behind Mabel. Interesting he resumes without a trial, so watch the market and see what it does with him.
Race 4. (14:21) Polytrack (Bm75) 1600m
6 Reet Petite (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a very promising mare for Keith Dryden and keen to be with her again. Was in her corner last time at this track/distance and she got a gun ride from Schiller, giving them a start and a beating, launching late to finish best. If the inside gate can be used to advantage and settle closer, she’ll take beating.
The tactics will be interesting with 1 Kangaroo Court (Bet Now: $SP.00). Blinkers on after resuming on the Kenso where he got back to near last in the run and while he was never a threat, I really liked the way he found the line late in the piece. Think they’ll press forward this time around and with that, he’ll be hard to get past.
7 Cyborg (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a knockout hope. Norm Gardner trained gelding that ran over this track/distance last time out where he got back to near last in the run and made up some headway without threatening behind Missile Leader. Gets a senior jock and a better gate so for mine, he can run a much improved race.
Race 5. (14:56) National Sprint 1400m
3 Kinloch (Bet Now: $SP.00) has lengths on these surely? Couple of outstanding wins to start the prep before going to Rosehill where he got too far back and was good late without threatening behind Welwal. Fitter, firmer footing and back a fair way in grade/depth, I think this is a case of good luck beating him.
7 Coin Toss (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a Singapore star for GaiBott that resumes. This guy is first up after a two run Spring prep, one of them being the Golden Eagle where he was outclassed behind Obamburumai. The trial work leading in has been just fair but his runs on the board from Singapore ensure he gets respect. Watch the market.
6 Vreneli (Bet Now: $SP.00) is an improver for GaiBott. This guy resumed over 1400m at Rosehill when doing work to land in front and on a shifty track, he couldn’t quite pick his feet up and tired to finish down the track behind Wekwal. Firmer footing, should find the front and from there, he can run an improved race.
Race 6. (15:36) Canberra Guineas 1400m
13 Miss Amore (Bet Now: $SP.00) looks a big price here I feel. GaiBott trained filly that debuted over 1200m at Newcastle where he sat on speed in a field of five before taking the front and he just kept running, dashing clear late and winning with ease, running decent late splits. Bred to eat up 1400m, lands on speed and this isn’t an overly deep Guineas. Happy to speck each way.
3 Xidaki (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a nice horse for Team Snowden that was knocking on the door to win the maiden and it came on the Kenso where he sat on speed and was trucking before being clicked up and he was strong late for a deserving maiden win. He has that win on the board, he can go on with it and is a key threat.
5 Tumbling (Bet Now: $SP.00) can run an improved race for Ciaron Maher. He was an alarming market drifter when racing on the Kenso last time out. #They got it right as he didn’t win but his finale from the back was sound enough I thought. If he can use the inside gate to advantage, he’s dangerous at odds.
Race 7. (16:16) Black Opal Stakes 1200m
1 Fully Lit (Bet Now: $SP.00) has a bit on this lot and despite carrying the weight, 1200m, I think class gets him home. Been kept on ice since the Inglis Millennium when sitting on speed throughput and he was there to be run down but he found under pressure and was strong to the line in winning. Tick over trial was good and on class, he has lengths on this lot surely.
5 Holmes A Court (Bet Now: $SP.00) has done little wrong in two career outings for Team Snowden. He ran in the lead ups to the Blue Diamond, running second to High Octane in the Preview before a third to Bodyguard in the Prelude. Moved well enough in a tick over trial…doubt he wins but runs second/third.
3 Amazing Eagle (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a must for exotics. He ran in the Black Opal Prelude last time when ridden with a sit and was there to win but couldn’t quite get there when a narrow second. He’ll take good improvement from that and I do think he has the engine under the hood to be dangerous.
Race 8. (17:00) Canberra Cup 2000m
8 Redstone Well (Bet Now: $SP.00) is on the seven day back up after racing last Saturday over 2000m at Randwick where he was quite keen in the run and then cut back inside, which was the no go zone, so forgive and forget the run behind Floating. I think with that run under the belt and better racing manners, his best is good enough to give this a shake.
3 So United (Bet Now: $SP.00) will jump on the bunny and give cheek. He was several weeks between runs when racing in the Parramatta Cup last time when on speed and he gave a decent enough kick but the break between runs, condition just gave way late. Fitter, lands in front and will take running down.
9 Royal Robbins (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a sneaky knockout hope for Matty Smith. He hasn’t been too bad in two runs this time in, the latest under the lights at Canterbury where he got back and made up some headway without threatening behind Principessa. Maps to do no work in the run and down in the weights, he’s one for exotics.
Race 9. (17:41) Affinity Constructions Australia Hcp (C2) 1300m
4 Gundy Guy (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a horse who I think could be ideal for The Kosciuszko in the Spring. Gee I think he has an engine under the hood. Loved the way he won first up over 1000m before going to 1200m at Wagga again where he gave them a start and a beating, launching late to finish best and clocked outstanding late splits. He’s progressive, heading in the right direction, and despite the gate, he is the one to beat.
1 Emancipist (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a key threat for Ryan/Alexiou. This gelding was a dominant winner over 1200m here last time, sitting back near last in the run before being angled wider and he let down with real purpose to win and win well. Extra 100m is no issue and off that win, he commands respect.
2 Dead Of Night (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a son of Snitzel that resumes for Annabel Neasham. This guy is first up, having not raced since October 25 when down the track over 1800m on the Kenso as he was potentially on a Spring Champion path but didn’t quite run up to expectations. Given a good break and has trialled well leading in so watch the market.
Race 10. (18:16) Tab We're On Plate (C1) 2000m
6 Adagio (Bet Now: $SP.00) has been strong in two career outings for GaiBott. Led and run down on debut at Newcastle before going to 1500m at Muswellbrook where he handled the wet track best and toughed it out to win and win impressively. He’ll have no issue with 2000m and with his on speed pattern, he’ll give himself every chance.
4 Vaguer (Bet Now: $SP.00) should appreciate a rise in trip for Annabel Neasham. He resumed over the mile here when ridden with a sit and he kept finding the line but just found one better in a nice horse, Reet Petite. Fitter and up to 2000m, lack of overall depth, he commands respect.
9 Twelfth Night (Bet Now: $SP.00) is one I can entertain for wider multiples. This mare was a few weeks between runs since racing over the mile at Wyong where she got back and wide and was never a factor behind Gardenzio. Racing like a rise in trip will suit and while I doubt she wins, she is a must for exotics.
