1/8/2020 Horse Racing Tips and Best Bets – Randwick

Nine races will be run and won at Randwick on Saturday. The weather is fine, the track is heavy (9) and the rail is out nine metres from the 1600m-Winning Post; Out seven metres for the remainder.

Going the way of 7 Bazooka (Bet Now: $4.00 TOP ODDS) in the opener. David Payne trains this three year old, who ran on the Kenso track two weeks ago and chased strongly, but the bias wasn’t in his favour when second to Giovanna Run. Bigger track, hopefully a fairer track, hard fit and gets Blinkers first time. Hard to beat against these.

Interesting to see how 3 Syncline (Bet Now: $3.70 TOP ODDS) measures up. Scratched from an easier race on Wednesday at Warwick Farm in preference for this. Ran over 1300m at Hawkesbury last time out after a dominant first up maiden win at Taree. Was near the speed throughout and there to be run down late, but kicked on strongly and was too good. Harder here, but lands near the speed and is hard to run down.

4 Badoosh (Bet Now: $6.00 TOP ODDS) is a talented son of Sebring that resumes for Matty Dunn. This gelding hasn’t raced since Feb 22 over 1800m at Eagle Farm when placing behind a then in form Violet in a race which has produced a few winners. Two trials leading in have been pretty good and like he resumes at 1300m, a trip he can be more than competitive at.

15 Mr Magical (Bet Now: $3.60 TOP ODDS) suffered his first career defeat on the Kenso track two weeks ago in a Highway but certainly lost no admirers. He chased right to the line when a narrow second to Tallis, who had the bias in his corner and was too good. Think off that run, 1200m here will be fine and third up, should be hard fit now.

16 Niccirose (Bet Now: $8.50 TOP ODDS) is going well for Scott Singleton, a stable that has had good success in town in recent weeks thanks to Partners, a Highway winner from a few weeks ago. This gelding ran over 1300m at Scone last time out and chased strongly but was nearer the inside and recently, the inside has been quicksand at Scone, so his effort to run a close up second was good. Blinkers back on as well, so there’s intent.

If this track could dry out somewhat, could make a little case for 10 Denmiss (Bet Now: $41.00 TOP ODDS) at big odds. Resumed on a bottomless track at Hawkesbury and couldn’t pick her feet up when down the track behind Escaped. Proven Highway performer that does no work from the draw. Just want this track to dry out to a 7/8.

2 Man Of Peace (Bet Now: $6.00 TOP ODDS) looks the one to beat despite coming back in trip. He’s flying at the moment for Matty Dale. Yes, bias played a hand in his win two weeks ago on the Kenso track, but he still had to take advantage of it and he did so in style. That was his first run in a month, so he’s got room for improvement, should find the front and prove hard to get past.

Think a rise to 1300m is ideal for the James Cummings trained 7 Kordia (Bet Now: $1.90 TOP ODDS). Loved his first up win over 1100m at Rosehill before stepping up to 1200m there three weeks ago and just got too far back in the run but closed off strongly behind Inanup. He’ll eat up the extra 100m here, got upside to come…just a query on whether or not he handles a wet Randwick surface.

I’m very interested in 4 Cinquedea (Bet Now: $9.50 TOP ODDS), resuming for the Freedman camp. He was around the mark for the most part when last in work during the Summer/Autumn, highlighted by a win in the Canberra Mile before being outclassed in the Canberra Cup. Two trials leading in have been pretty good and he can sprint well fresh.

Good test here for 9 De Grawin (Bet Now: $10.00 TOP ODDS) but all you can do is win and that is what she’s done in two runs back from a spell. Showed good ticker to break the maiden first up at Wyong prior to going to Nowra where she didn’t beat much, but she was impressive in the way she put them away. Looks to get near the speed here and I think can run a positive race despite the class rise.

I’ve always had time for 4 Karaja (Bet Now: $5.50 TOP ODDS) so keen to see how she resumes. Matty Dunn trained filly that was trying to force her way into a possible Magic Millions start by contesting a couple of lead ups during the Summer but fitness beat her fresh, then next time out bumped into Alligator Blood. Two trials have been just fair, so I think watch the market. Quality may well get her home.

1 Fanciful Dream (Bet Now: $7.00 TOP ODDS) isn’t far off a win for Paul Perry. Ran over this track/distance four weeks ago when sitting off what was a good speed set by Spaceboy and liked the way she found the line in defeat to run second, beaten comfortably by Spaceboy, but she gapped the rest. Gets a great chance to get a Saturday metro win on the board.

8 Derbari (Bet Now: $2.40) is so well in at the weights that he has to be the option. Sat on speed on the Kenso track two weeks ago and looked home, but was bloused late by Zourhea. Gets a 4kg weight pull on that mare here and maps to get a good time of it on speed. Only 50.5kg on his back, on this track, it’s a perfect recipe.

1 Zourhea (Bet Now: $4.00) is a Gerald Ryan trained mare that produced one of the wins of the meeting on the Kenso track, defying the track pattern in coming wide and finishing over the top to get the job done. The two runs prior to start the prep were quite good so the win was no shock, but somewhat of a shock given how the track played. Going well and is hard to beat again.

6 Adana (Bet Now: $8.50) is worth another chance here. Just missed out on the win two back at this track/distance when a narrow second to Agassi. Then went to the Kenso track and the way the track played, he had no chance, so forget he went around. Off the prior effort, suggested a win was near and he gets his chance.

2 Kiss The Bride (Bet Now: $2.05) looks ready to win for Bjorn Baker. Fitness beat him two back behind Agassi over the mile here before stepping up to 1800m on the Kenso track where he was there to win, but a combination of bias and a 7kg weight pull stopped him getting past Le Lude. He’s ready to win and gets his chance here.

3 Night Of Power (Bet Now: $8.50) is the map horse, provided he holds up from gate one, because if he does, he should hold the back of Monsieur Sisu. He ran three weeks ago at Rosehill and on the turn, he looked to be bolting and was the winner, but couldn’t quite finish it off. Hoping he can sit closer in the run and if so, hard to beat.

Interested to see how 1 Decroux (Bet Now: $11.00) goes. It was an outstanding steer from Nash to get him home last Wednesday at Canterbury. Somehow found the fence from a wide gate, got the track pattern from that point on and was too good, but the ride was a beauty. Harder here, but got upside and has found winning form.

4 Black Magnum… (Bet Now: $3.60) the replay says it all really. He should have won, but just didn’t get a proper crack at them. No fault of Tom Sherry. He rode to the track pattern but things just didn’t eventuate for him. He’s got enormous upside to come and is suited up to 1100m…the knock is the form out of that race, with the winner running 13 seconds for his final 200m, which is walking.

7 Sangria (Bet Now: $3.30) is a sharp mare for the Snowden camp that resumes. I reckon she’ll be better on firmer footing, but has won 2/3 on soft ground and did trial up enormous earlier this week on the Polytrack here. If she handles the ground, hard to beat, but just a query on whether or not she’ll handle a genuine Randwick heavy.

Fascinating runner is 3 Tonsor (Bet Now: $16.00), a Matty Smith trained sprinter that resumes. He hasn’t raced since January 18 at Rosehill when down the track behind Embracer dipped and dived on numerous occasions, clearly not happy on the surface, so that’s a worry here if we get a seriously wet track, but he’s got a touch of quality and his trials have been good.

1 Monegal (Bet Now: $7.50) is flying for Theresa Bateup. Surprised many with a first up win at big odds but in two subsequent runs, she’s proven that the win was no fluke. Latest run came three weeks back at Rosehill when a strong third to Edison, closing off nicely late. Racing as if 1800m will suit and the form around her does read well.

7 Le Lude (Bet Now: $10.00) is a John Thompson trained mare that had been around the mark of late without winning but that all changed a fortnight ago when hugging the fence under Rachel King and with the bias in her corner, she lifted late to get the job done. Harder here, but she’s racing well and should continue that here.

2 Guise (Bet Now: $12.00) is a daughter of So You Think for Chris Waller that can fill a first four spot. Comes through the Le Lude race from the Kenso meeting two weeks ago and I thought she stuck on pretty well against the pattern when fourth to the John Thompson mare. Better suited here I feel and a win wouldn’t shock at all.

9 Charretera (Bet Now: $3.80) is three weeks between runs for Team Snowden since racing over 1200m at Rosehill when chasing a good speed set by Partners and liked the way he stuck on and closed his race off when third to the well backed front runner. Think a rise to 1400m suits, he’s getting towards peak fitness…yes he has convictions, but despite not winning, is racing well.

5 Steel Diamond (Bet Now: $3.60) is a Rick Worthington trained mare that’s going in just about career best form at the moment. Put together a couple of wins on the bounce, including one at Rosehill. Raced there again three weeks ago and was very good in defeat when third to Lewis. Back to 1400m I like for this mare and she finds a winnable race.

1 Stella Sea Sun (Bet Now: $7.50) is a Kris Lees trained mare that is three weeks between runs since racing in the Partners race mentioned above. She was run off her legs and chasing from a fair way out, which really isn’t her go, so I’d be forgiving of that outing. Good record at Randwick and once again that 3kg claim for Louise Day certainly helps.

NEXT BEST: Race Eight Number 1 Monegal

LONG SHOT: Race Race Four Number 9 De Grawin
