The two day Wagga Carnival wraps up this Friday where it is Wagga Cup Day. The weather is fine, the track is good (4) and the rail is in the true position for the entire circuit.

Race 1. (12:45) Wagga Rsl Club Showcase Super Mdn Plate 1200m
1 Eton (Bet Now: $SP.00) to resume a winner for GaiBott. He returns to racing as a gelding and off an extended layoff. Hasn’t raced since 2024 so has clearly had issues but his trial work to get ready has been sharp, he’ll spear across, land on speed and take running down.
8 Triumvirate (Bet Now: $SP.00) commands respect for Team Hayes after racing over this trip at Geelong. He landed in a decent spot near the speed and thought he was there to win but just couldn’t quite see it through when third to Col Klink. He is racing well and knocking on the door.
3 Hold This (Bet Now: $SP.00) should be better for the first up run, which came at Gundagai when hard in the market but didn’t really fire a shot and was a tad on the plain side. Perhaps needed the run? Prior efforts were good enough to take this out.
Race 2. (13:20) Toyota Forklifts Showcase Hcp (C3) 1000m
14 Wear The Crown (Bet Now: $SP.00) looks to have returned very well for Danielle Seib and is one of the hardest to beat after a first up win over this track/distance. Lobbed just behind the speed and looked to be trucking before being clicked up and away she went to win and win well. Maps to get the identical run and be effective late.
1 Harry The Thief (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a couple of weeks between runs since racing over this trip at Wyong when off speed and kept chasing with purpose in a pretty good effort in defeat. If he can get luck from the draw, he’ll take holding out.
5 Ditterich (Bet Now: $SP.00) came back to 900m at Wellington last time when beaten for early speed but I liked the way he kept chasing and finding the line in defeat behind Denman Force. He’ll be strong late. Just depends what start he concedes.
Race 3. (13:55) Jrc Electrical Services Mtc Guineas (Bm74) 1600m
2 Cosmic Avenger (Bet Now: $SP.00) on top for me. Thought she ran very well against the older horses at Newcastle last time, chasing with purpose from off speed but just missed when second to General Soho. Bursting to win and strikes a winnable race.
5 Blue Monday (Bet Now: $SP.00) has to be rated as one of the top seeds given her effort in the James Carr at Randwick, closing strongly from the back against the pattern behind Snitzel Dancer. Just has to hold that form here and she’ll go close.
9 Pure Melody (Bet Now: $SP.00) was pretty good at this track/distance last start, getting off speed but closed with real purpose I thought in a good effort in defeat behind Ghost Walker. If within range, she has the finale to be dangerous.
Race 4. (14:30) Inglis 2Yo Challenge 1200m
6 Isn’t She Autumn (Bet Now: $SP.00) will jump on the bunny and take running down, as seen at Canberra on debut. Credit to her, she was there to be beaten but she found under pressure to fend them off and score. Extra 200m should be fine, good racing style, she appeals.
9 Portland Miss (Bet Now: $SP.00) steps up to 1200m after a debut win over 1000m at Hawkesbury when giving them a start and a beating, nailing Barracks on the peg. Think it was more him stopping than her surging but she was strong late and has good upside.
4 Too Hot To Handle (Bet Now: $SP.00) didn’t do a bad job in a strong 2YO race at Warwick Farm last time when leading and tried hard but just felt the pinch late in the piece. Lands on speed and has the 1200m lead in under the belt.
Race 5. (15:05) Sdb Byrne Queen Of The South (Bm66) 1400m
10 Judith’s Revenge (Bet Now: $SP.00) looks a good each way gamble. Tim Donnelly trained filly that ran second in the Guineas Prelude, trying hard from just off speed but just missed when second to Hip Hip Ole. Like her staying at 1400m vs the mile of the Guineas, she’ll be strong late and this race isn’t deep.
2 Autumn Blonde (Bet Now: $SP.00) was a total forgive from Hawkesbury last time out given she was wide no cover on speed and that hard run just told on her late in the piece behind The New Sinatra. Tricky gate again but she is the class and it will carry her a long way.
9 Spirits Run Deep (Bet Now: $SP.00) steps up to 1400m after racing over 1180m at Gundagai where she hunted up to hold a forward spot but that early burn just told on her late. Not sure she wins, but she could pinch first four if she gets front end control.
Race 6. (15:40) Gallagher Insurance Brokers Showcase (Bm58) 1300m
12 The Magnet (Bet Now: $SP.00) on top but not really a race I want to get involved in. She comes here off the back of a maiden win at Orange. She had the suck run in behind. It was just a matter of getting clear air and once that eventuated, she drove hard to finish best. Confident she can measure up.
6 Fourthtimelucky (Bet Now: $SP.00) is knocking on the door. He ran over this trip at Wodonga last start when off speed and worked home with purpose when second. If he can settle closer, be effective late, he can take this out.
17 Ossified (Bet Now: $SP.00) should be better for the first up run, which came over 1400m at Gundagai. He was tucked in behind the speed and seemed to have his chance but just whacked late. Fitter, kind map, he can run a cheeky race at a price.
Race 7. (16:20) Wagga Gold Cup 2000m
2 Travolta (Bet Now: $SP.00) looks a good thing. He comes through the JRA Plate where he ran very well against the pattern when back and closed strongly when third to Asterix. If the track is playing fair and if within range, class gets him home. Keen.
3 Star Of India (Bet Now: $SP.00) was down the track in the JRA Plate but you can easily make a case that with clear air, he goes close. Instead, he went around as pretty much a barrier trial. Flying this horse and commands some level of respect.
8 Flying Bandit (Bet Now: $SP.00) won this race last year…is he going as well 12 months on? I say no, but in saying that, he was sneaky good last Saturday at Randwick the way he closed off. A win wouldn’t shock with him.
Race 8. (17:00) Walsh & Blair Country Magic (Bm74) 1200m
5 Hellinda (Bet Now: $SP.00) each way for me in the get out. He ran in the Town Plate Prelude when wide no cover for a fair chunk of the race and just felt the pinch late after the early work. Maps much better this time around and for mine, only runs well.
16 Moor Mumm (Bet Now: $SP.00) steps up to 1200m after racing over 1100m down the straight at Flemington when striking a bog and was okay late without threatening. Firmer deck, she appeals against these.
3 County Kilkenny (Bet Now: $SP.00) comes back to 1200m after racing in the Albury Mile where he seemingly had his chance but just whacked late. Fast run 1200m, he’ll sit back and be quite strong at the end.
