The return of racing to the country Victorian track of Kilmore has been further delayed with its December 20 meeting transferred to Kyneton.

The track has been undergoing extensive drainage repairs which were originally expected to be finished in time to hold a meeting in November.

Further problems were found and fixed in the hope of racing next week.

But after a series of jumpouts on Monday morning the decision was made to give the track more time to consolidate.

Racing Victoria’s chief operating officer Bernard Saundry said they would take a conservative approach and a further series of jumpouts would be held in the first week of January.

If the track passes inspection, racing will resume on January 15.

Training at Kilmore has also been disrupted over the past few months with local Kate Goodrich saying it had been an extremely tough time.

Goodrich took Signor Socks to Moonee Valley on Saturday where he scored a welcome win despite the obstacles the stable has been facing.

“It’s been shocking. It’s been financially hard and psychologically it’s been tough,” Goodrich said.

“We don’t have a turf track to work on.”

The Benalla track hosted a meeting on Sunday after it also underwent major work caused by the deterioration of its ageing drainage system.

Werribee is another track that has had its problems with its first race meeting in nine months abandoned after a heavy downpour on Saturday.

The racecourse was used as the quarantine centre for the international horses competing at the spring carnival.

Its return to racing was halted after two races when the rain caused a roof above the members dining room to collapse with other facilities also damaged.
