Alan Brown has announced he is stepping down as chairman of Racing NSW.
“Racing NSW directors are appointed for fixed terms, so under good governance it makes sense for the board to rotate its roles, positions and responsibilities,” he said in a statement on Tuesday.
“We have a very skilled board that works well together and I look forward to building on our progress so far.”
The board of Racing NSW unanimously resolved to appoint Alan Bell as chairman with Brown as deputy chairman.
“I am proud of our achievements under my chairmanship since the new board was appointed two years ago,” Brown said.
“The metropolitan club merger and Race Fields Legislation defence dominated that period, and my focus remains on delivering the best industry outcomes for both.
“Accordingly I will continue to lead the High Court appeal process to its conclusion and oversee the funding for the redevelopment of Randwick.
“I will remain on the Australian Racing Board, from which I also chair the Australian Pattern Committee and am the Australian delegate to the International Pattern Race forums.”
Bell said it was an honour to be appointed chairman.
“At Racing NSW we focus on maximising returns for everyone who participates commercially in racing, and on ensuring everyone in NSW continues to enjoy following the races,” he said.
“Recently we celebrated 200 years of racing in NSW. To grow we need to modernise upon our great historical foundations. That way we keep racing relevant to all as we attract new race fans, owners and racing professionals.
“We are determined to ensure a prosperous racing future for all.”
