Champion jockey Zac Purton is just three wins away from breaking Douglas Whyte’s Hong Kong record of 1,813 career victories. Purton, currently at 1,810 wins, aims to surpass the milestone this Sunday at Sha Tin during the HK$13 million G1 Centenary Sprint Cup (1200m).
Purton secured a double at Happy Valley on Wednesday, riding Bottomuptogether to victory in the Class 2 Jackson Handicap (1000m) and Kasa Papa in the Class 5 Ice House Handicap (1800m). Reflecting on Bottomuptogether’s performance, Purton said, “He’s a nice horse, he always gives his best. It was a good win, first time at Happy Valley.”
Fellow jockey Hugh Bowman shone with a treble, while trainer Frankie Lor, commenting on Purton, added, “He is the champion, so he’s always busy. He is the first choice always.”
All eyes will be on Purton this Sunday as he looks to cement his place in Hong Kong racing history.
