Jeremy Noseda’s smart stayer Theology, a possible Melbourne Cup contender, will bid to open his account for the year in the Silver Cup at York on Saturday.
Connections have always held the son of Galileo in high regard and while he disappointed when sent off favourite for Ascot’s Sagaro Stakes at his first start of the year, he looked back to something like his best when second to Times Up on the Knavesmire in May.
He tackles the same course and distance this weekend and Harry Herbert, racing manager for owners Highclere Thoroughbred Racing, believes there is plenty more to come from the four-year-old.
“He ran very well on his latest visit to York and he’ll be back there this weekend. We were considering running him in the Gold Cup, but it was probably a blessing in disguise that we didn’t,” Herbert said.
“We were then toying with the idea of running him in the two-mile (3200m) race at Sandown last Saturday, but in the end Jeremy wanted to go back to York and run him over a mile and six furlongs (2800m) again, so that is what we’re doing.
“He’s going into the race in top form and hopefully he’ll run very well.
“He’s a horse we’ll consider for the Melbourne Cup later on if he shows us he’s good enough to compete at that level.”
