Sky Lantern produced a fine turn of foot to record an impressive victory in the Moyglare Stud Stakes at the Curragh.
The Richard Hannon-trained filly had posted a Listed success at Naas on her previous visit to Ireland but she had finished second at Group Three level in both her subsequent starts.
However, connections decided to supplement Sky Lantern for this Group One prize and it paid dividends.
The 7-1 shot pulled away from her rivals in a matter of strides under Richard Hughes to earn a possible trip to Santa Anita for the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies’ Turf.
Karamaya set the pace for a long way until Sky Lantern put the race to bed in no time to score by 2-1/2 lengths.
Scintillula (33-1) snatched second place from Harasiya, the 3-1 favourite.
“She’s a good filly,” Hannon’s son and assistant, Richard Hannon jnr.
“She was lucky last time she came here so we decided to supplement her and she was probably the best filly in the race at Goodwood last time, but it didn’t go to plan.
“She now gets an entry into the Breeders’ Cup and that is certainly an option, but the owner is unfortunately in Hong Kong so we can’t discuss plans right now.
“She’ll stay a mile and she can be a Guineas filly next year. She’s one to look forward to.”
Up could also be bound for the Breeders’ Cup after snatching victory from Caponata in the Irresistible Jewel Blandford Stakes.
Manieree made a brave effort to repeat last year’s victory and led until the furlong pole where Caponata and Up ranged menacingly alongside.
It was the Aidan O’Brien-trained filly, ridden by his son Joseph who took the honours by a short head from the other 3-1 joint favourite Caponata with Roger Varian’s Nahrain third.
