Ed Dunlop declared himself thrilled after seeing Ouija Board’s first foal Voodoo Prince record his first career victory at Haydock.
Ouija Board was a fantastic racemare for the yard, winning the English and Irish Oaks, a Hong Kong Vase and landing the Breeders’ Cup Filly And Mare Turf twice.
Voodoo Prince, a son of Kingmambo, had finished an encouraging sixth on his debut at Newbury in April and built on that to record an impressive victory on Merseyside.
“I’m thrilled to see him win and he’s a horse we’ve always liked,” said Dunlop.
“He didn’t run last year and we’ve been waiting for some decent ground to get him going this season.
“He’s done it nicely at Haydock and I’m thrilled for him, the owners and most importantly, of course, the mare.
“There was obviously a bit of pressure on the poor horse, but it’s great for Ouija Board that her first foal has won on just his second start.
“We’ll see how he is, but he won’t run on firm ground ever in his life – that is the key.
“We’ll probably step him up to a mile and a quarter, but there aren’t any plans at the moment.”
Dunlop is looking forward to training further progeny of Ouija Board, with a yearling filly by Galileo looking particularly promising.
“We also have a Monsun two-year-old out of her that is a bit backward and will need time and also a Galileo filly who we’re all excited about,” Dunlop said.
