Mahmood Al Zarooni won the UAE Oaks – but not with the filly expected as Falls Of Lora came away with the spoils at Meydan.
Stablemate Pimpernel was odds-on favourite on the back of her second to Gamilati earlier in the month, and Frankie Dettori had no trouble in choosing her.
That meant Mickael Barzalona came in for the ride on Falls Of Lora and the result never really looked in doubt.
Falls Of Lora had finished last of five in the Prix Marcel Boussac when last seen but could be set for a good three-year-old campaign.
Stan Moore’s Mary Fildes picked up plenty of prize money in second place, five lengths away.
“Everyone asked me if she surprised me but I said no because the filly has always had ability,” Al Zarooni said.
“She’s a moody filly but today she was very good, very professional.
“Mickael gave her a very good ride. She looked like she enjoyed the surface and the further she goes she doesn’t mind.
“Hopefully this filly should be all right back in Europe.
“The plan now will be up to Simon Crisford and His Highness (Sheikh Mohammed). If they decide to run her in the (UAE) Derby we’ll run in the Derby.”
Al Zarooni had earlier teamed up with Dettori to win the nine-furlong (1800m) handicap with Capponi, while Barzalona was back in the top spot winning on the trainer’s City Style in the nine-furlong conditions race.
Dettori also won on Brian Meehan’s Burano in the Listed race over a mile (1600m).
