Four Group 1 races will be contested at Sha Tin this Sunday featuring 2015 Cox Plate runner up Highland Reel and 2-time Melbourne Cup placed Max Dynamite.
The Hong Kong International Race day includes four feature Group 1 Races: the Hong Kong Cup (2000m), the Hong Kong Sprint (1200m), the Hong Kong Mile (1600m) and the Hong Kong Vase over 2400m.
2015 South Australian and Queensland Derby runner up Werther will top the list in the Hong Kong Cup, as local fan favorites Season’s Bloom, Beauty Only and Helene Paragon will be among better chances when they contest the Hong Kong Mile.
Highland Reel and Max Dynamite will go head to head in the Hong Kong Vase, in strong a field that also includes Japanese visitor Kiseki and French stayer Tiberian who was placed 7th in this year’s Melbourne Cup.
A prestigious race, the Hong Kong Vase has previously been won by Japanese super-star Santono Crown, Highland Reel and people’s horse Red Cadeaux.
The Hong Kong Sprint has been very exciting in the past and is perhaps one of the biggest races in the world each year. The Hong Kong sprint last year included Australians Takedown and Rebel Dane, and this Sunday’s race will be a massive showdown between the in-form Mr Stunning and Last Years runner up Lucky Bubbles. The 1200m race features massive names Thewizardofoz, Amazing Kids, D B Pin, Penaiphobia and Notlistenin’tome.
A number of Australian jockeys will also be on show this Sunday including Brett Pebble, Nash Rawiller, Sam Clipperton, Tommy Berry, Chad Schofield and Zac Purton.
The Hong Kong International Race Day tops off a massive weekend of racing together with The Group 1 Kingston Town Classic at Ascot, as well as the Pakenham Cup and City Of Marion Stakes at Morphetville.
