The Melbourne Cup has emerged as a very realistic target for Red Cadeaux after his easy victory in the Curragh Cup at the weekend.
Ed Dunlop’s five-year-old continues to improve this season and having already won a Listed handicap at Hamilton this season, he landed the Group Three by nine lengths.
A tilt at the Irish St Leger could also be on the cards but it is the possibility of a trip Down Under that is exciting connections.
“The Cup could be just the right type of race for Red Cadeaux and I think we’d all have a lot of fun out there,” Dunlop told his website.
“The more I watch the video of Saturday’s race, the more I am impressed.
“He is a middle-distance horse with a turn of foot and that is what you need for Melbourne but we could have a crack at the Irish St Leger en route, though his program will be determined by the ground.”
