Holberg, who finished sixth in last year’s Melbourne Cup, is a possible contender for the Ascot Gold Cup.
Saeed bin Suroor’s five-year-old ran a great race in the Melbourne Cup, being beaten just over six lengths by Americain when ridden by Frankie Dettori.
Godolphin are not committing him to a repeat bid just yet and of his two Royal Ascot entries, the Gold Cup would be the preferred option rather than the Hardwicke Stakes.
“It’s too early to say if Holberg will be going back to Melbourne but he worked today on the Watered Gallop and worked really nicely,” said Bin Suroor.
“I’m happy with him, he’s in good condition and has been going well at home so we’ll keep our options open for him.
“We’ll just see how he goes this season before deciding if he goes back for the Melbourne Cup.
“He could go for the Ascot Gold Cup. We’d need to give him a race before that and we’ll see how he goes in that first.”
