William Haggas has confirmed Guarantee an intended runner in the St Leger at Doncaster on Saturday week after a pleasing workout.
The son of Authorized did not make his debut until finishing second at Windsor in mid-June, since which he has run up a hat-trick of impressive victories.
He marked himself out as a possible Leger candidate with an impressive performance in the Melrose Stakes at York’s Ebor meeting.
While Haggas acknowledges his three-year-old faces a difficult task tackling potential Triple Crown winner Camelot, he feels his charge deserves his place in the Town Moor Classic.
Haggas said: “He worked this morning, everything went nicely and we’re planning to run in the St Leger.
“He’s quite a lazy horse at home and they are always difficult to read when they are like that, but he looks extremely well and in great form with himself.
“There are no prizes for going up the Al Bahathri in Newmarket, there never have been, so we didn’t push too many buttons.
“I just wanted to see that he is still going the right way and I believe he is. Certainly what he did this morning he couldn’t have done two months ago.
“We’re keen to have a go at the Leger now. We appreciate how tough it is going to be to beat Camelot, but you can’t win these races if you’re not in them.”
